After watching you with the professional organizer. I looked one up in my area and hired her for 32 hours. I have ADD and have such a hard time staying focused and decision fatigue is real. We start February 13th. I’m very excited to have someone hold my hand, not be judgmental, and hold me accountable. Thank you!

Love what you did! Tip: set a "date" to redeclutter in 3 months again. After that, another date in 9 months, thereafter declutter your office on a yearly basis. January is a perfect time for it. Really, declutter again in April, you will be surprised how much you will let go then. Decluttering happens in layers, that's how change happens.❤

I live full-time in an RV (motorhome). My space is at a premium. I HATE paper with a passion. I have ADD/ADHD+ and cannot focus and/or stay on task without help. My husband will never help with any organizing. His solution would be to toss everything without looking. So, I am definitely hiring a professional organizer this spring to help me organize my space. I will be sure to let y'all know how this goes once we are done.

I had 20 years worth of electrical things and finally laid it all out. I put like with like and took the rest to best buy to recycle. They recycle old phones, chords, computers, anything that goes to electrical items. I had 4 grocery bags of donate. For years i avoided that project because "what if we need" mentality. Now i feel free and i can tackle all the hard things.

Art work suggestion - lower them so they aren’t so far above the couch and offset the tops … one higher than the other - maybe line the top half way down the higher one and hang them closer together. I think you’ll like the way they look

For the craft island, I strongly suggest something that coordinates with your current office furniture (maybe blue cabinets with a white top) and putting it on wheels so you can move it against the wall or even out of the room to be used elsewhere in the house.

You're doing a great job. It's really motivating to see you tackle one part of your home after the other, to get it "back under controll". I have a recommendation for your old laptops. Why not get an external hard drive that has enough storage capacity so that you can move all the data from the old laptops to it. External hard drives are small and easy to store, and if you have the time and motivation, you can go through them and sort out, what you want to keep.

You are doing great and the house is looking good! My couple pieces of advice after you hit all your declutter goals and are "finished" is to keep up on all your processes to keep organized, even when busy or not feeling like it because it builds back up FAST! Also be super mindful of not buying new things that aren't needed and what you purchase and bring into the home. Then maybe quarterly, go through a room a day and declutter/sell/donate things that aren't needed anymore. It'll go super quickly since you've kept up on it. It helps soooo much.

I keep the manuals to things in my file cabinet, too. To keep organized, whenever I buy something new, I keep the manual, receipt and warranty together and file them. While in that folder, I quickly flip through to see if there are any manuals, expired warranties, etc. that can be eliminated. When donating something it's a nice touch to include the manual in a plastic bag and tied to the item. This keeps me from accumulating unnecessary and irrelevant paperwork, and the new owner of donated object informed of remaining warranty, instructions, and 1 800 numbers.

One thing I notice about a lot of people who have clutter is that there are a lot of stories attached to their things. Things have memory, sentimentality attached them, almost as if they were precious, living things. We forget that most stuff came off an assembly line. That's why many professionals say to go with the initial feeling, thought and not dwell on the object in question, or you'll spend 10 minutes on each item telling their story. Life is too short to be wasted on stuff.

If you don't want to throw away your manuals, here's another tip: only keep the pages that are in your own language. E.G. I'm French: I cut the cover and all the pages in French and throw away all the other languages because I don't speak Spanish nor Chinese nor Danish and even if I do speak English, I don't need the manual in multiple languages. That saves A LOT of space!

Take your old laptops to a computer store like people who help fix and take care of computers. They can take all the photos off your computer as long as you remember the password. They can take all the photos off and put them on a thumb drive and then they can wipe the laptops unless you want other things saved on a thumb drive as well. It's wonderful to just hand it off to someone to take care of for you and then you'll have a thumb drive where you can print out pictures if you want at Walgreens or Wherever.

Well done!.. Great you keep paperwork.. the millennials say throw it all out, but you can need stuff further down the line.. especially financial..eg I needed it all when I got divorce, eg i even needed old pay slips from my student days for them to calculate my state pension. Also with my last job (age 30) I needed to show school qualifications from when i was 16yrs old! Also banks only store 10yrs of statements digitally.. i need some 17yrs old for my divorce!... its so easy to keep it in files, in boxes in an attic or basement so its not cluttering the main house, but you have it if you need it. You have done a great job... looks great. I can't wait for your kitchen. I have to do a load of decluttering and filling this year again. This weekend i will declutter and file my paperwork which has collected since the last time I did filing last summer!.

Another thing, I had a phone company come after me like 8 years later saying I owed them money for an old house phone. They could not even tell me the phone number-but they were very aggressive and nasty and it took me going to the state AG to clear it up. So now I keep the last and first bill for each year of every utility for ten years. Because crazy stuff happens! Lol. And the actual tax returns-not all the other papers.

When you get bigger art you could hang these two over the drawer, the one you moved to the left and can now lock. It would work there.

I read online that the center of pictures on a wall should all be 5 ft from the ground, no matter what size they are. That's apparently what museums do. Your eyes then just go around the room evenly.

I love hearing your voice. Your voice is very calming and it’s refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t say “um” or use filler words when they speak!

You are a joy to watch! I think you’re doing such a good job on your office. How would it work to put your printer on the file cabinet? It would give you more space on your desk to work. And the art work over the sofa would look good over the file cabinet stacked vertically.

"Elderly Milennial" - adoring eep! A few years your senior, I'm gonna need to claim "geriatric GenX" for my filing cabinets (and binders, and piles)! : - )

don't feel bad about the paperwork taking a week to go through. when my dad died i went through the 3 filing cabinets he had to organize it for my mom and it took me over a month. he had bank statements and w-2s in there since the 1980s. lol. it was both hard yet fun to go through. i also had problems letting go of some old laptops. not bc i was attached to them, but i had difficulty finding a place to recycle them, as i like rurally and our centers don't accept electronic waste. i also thought of donating them, but i'd have to get them wiped by a professional first and just haven't found the time.

You're doing a wonderful job and I can tell your spirits in to it, I do have a lot of boxes but in 2023 I'm definitely going to get rid of a lot more of those unless it was a really expensive thing.

I’m so excited to see someone else that thinks like I do. I also had those issues with AT&T playing games with bills. I finally dropped them for Verizon because I got tired of it.

You are a complete inspiration to me! For the couch side of the room, I think one or three blue and/or beige throw pillows might soften the couch look, and maybe a neutral throw if you have one around the house. The pillows would help tie the room together with the curtains on the other side just like your gorgeous prints do. Rule of thumb - hang art at (yours, not your girls, eye level,) so bring those prints down and you'll like what you see. An interior designer taught me that in my 20s and said it's the number one easiest way to improve a room (and we all hang our stuff too high.)
