All new puppy owners could use breeders that way. I'd wait the extra weeks, and pay the extra money for the crate training. It's so helpful, and you get more sleep.

Such a great video. We are on day 4 with our 8 week old puppy and really hoping crate trainng is going to solve a number of everyday concerns we have. Such as working from home, preparing and eating our food, watching TV, not jumping on the sofa, guests coming round etc. We are making progress, first night felt like this was impossible, but its moving in the right direction whilst slowly. We have to remind ourselves it takes time and shes a baby :)

Hello , I want to share about crate training. I got my maltipoo at 2 months old and what I did is I got a open dog pen and used that in my living room to put him in when I needed to leave the room and I couldn’t watch him and I just used his crate for bed time and that crate would be with me in my bedroom. So he would know that the crate would be for sleeping it was for bed time . The dog pen was tall enough that he could jump out cause my maltipoo was small so this was more spacious foe his nap and play time and this work fir me when I got busy and he didn’t feel like he was in a cage all the time so I didn’t hear much barking or whining 👍

I’m getting a maltipoo soon n this was my exact plan, a play pen downstairs when I’m cooking or showering , not home and a crate in my bedroom in for sleeping. How did potty training go? Can you train a dog to go outside n on pee pads or is that confusing for them?

I also got a playpen for my two month old Goldendoodle. He would have nothing to do with the crate and just whined and cried. He does in the pen also but it’s way better, until the night then it’s still really rough even in the pen.

I have a two month old puppy and going through this exact situation right now. I broke downs and bought a playpen instead of a crate because my little puppy would just whine and cry when in the crate and not stop. He still whines and cries in the pen but it’s somewhat better, other than at night keeping me up. Getting an already crate trained puppy is the way to go if at all possible, especially if you work and have to travel into the office a few days a week and they’ll be at home.

Thanks for this video. I have had my 10 week old maltipoo for 3 days now, and it's been exhausting. I have started crate training, but at night it's awful since I have to put him in there to sleep. He goes crazy and try's to dismantle the crate. I let him follow me around the house which isn't the best idea because he will get too attached to me, but I know if I stick him in the crate he will go nuts. I've read it can take weeks to months to crate train. For now at night I have to put him downstairs, and let him cry it out. My vet suggested this. It's hard, but I won't get any sleep if I don't. Getting their energy out is a must. My first night home I didn't have time, and that was no fun at all.

It takes time! Your dog is adjusting to you and their environment the same way you’re adjusting to a new baby, with razor sharp teeth lol.

You can put the crate in your bedroom, which is much easier for the puppy, instead of enforcing horrible loneliness on a baby. I did this with my puppy for a few weeks and he has no separation anxiety when I leave the house.

I do feel your pain. This is what I am going through right now. Wondering if I made a mistake in getting him at times. Lol I am contemplating moving my pup into my spare bedroom at the front of my house because he cries and whines all night and I get no sleep.

Does it matter where you crate train? Like I want the crate to be in my bedroom but I don’t want her to have free range of my room. Just for sleeping so she knows I’m near. So should I crate train in my room or the living room ?

  • @pupscoutsdogtraining

Personally I like crating in my bedroom too :) if you don’t want her to have free reign of the bedroom, keep the crate door closed. If you want to experiment with the living room, you can always try it and if it doesn’t work out the way you like, move it to where you do want it to be.

I'm a bit late and I'm sure you're past this, but my Vet said to leave them downstairs(if you can), and wear earplugs. Let them cry it out, and don't take them out in the middle of the night.

Do your neighbors hear it? I also have a house but worry my neighbors can hear the whining and crying. I’m not sure if they can but it gets loud. I have noise concealing earplugs that I will likely start using because I am sleep deprived and have gotten very little sleep since having my two month old puppy. I probably am not the nicest to anyone right now with such little sleep. Lol
