I love flea markets. I always priced my stuff because so many folks said when they went to a flea market if there were no prices they kept walking. It can go either way. One thing I always did. If I got what I wanted for something I never cared what they did with it. If I wanted and got $5.00 for something and they turned around and got $20.00 for it I was happy. I have sold for $10.00 and saw people put $25.00 on it and then take it home. Again I was happy! I used to like to take a couple guineas to the flea market. They would go to hollering and everybody had to come and check that out. It always worked for me. The bad part a lot of time was I would sell the guineas to early! I used to stay away from small items that were easily stolen. I saw guys set up with locking displays but for me this was more trouble that it was worth. Western paperback books were always a good seller for me. I cold buy them for 25 cents and sell them for $1.00 or 12 books for $10.00 that sounds cheap and is but it adds up quickly. I have had days I would not sell 50 books but most of the time I sold hundreds. I bought westerns every chance I got and never had a problem selling them. I could go on and on!

Overall good advice but I don't know if "sizing people up" is the best advice. I do this for a living since 1992. I do markets all the time and I see this strategy back fire for dealers. They throw a price out based on the appearance of the customer,he buys it for 25 bucks and they finds out later it was priced to everyone else for 15, they are left feeling ripped off. It cast a sleazy tone over the dealer who sold it and mild resentement from the buyer next time around. They don't forget it.

I dunno, price tags always bring comfort to me because I can shop without approaching the seller over every item, although I usually add up the total in my mind and shave off 5 bucks.

Flea Markets & Swapmeets are really hard work , but if you really have a good product mix ,marketing plan and really low prices you can sell alot in high volume.

:) Thanks so much guys! Just what I wanted to hear!! Flea markets ARE such hard work, but I tell you what, after the first 2 or 3 times, it starts to become home to you. Keeping your eyes up and on the prize coupled with networking (customers and vendors) that will make this business pay off for you!! Vince, don't be afraid to get out there in the mix with Jack! It will allow more money to be made while he is talking, you're helping another. Most importantly, you will be getting in your licks!

I do like the color code and it is a good idea for a yard sale but I never liked it at a swap and over the years I noticed it was better to have no prices or stickers-they seem to slow the action down at swaps Jack and thank you for your comment

@Noyjeetut - you bet I know alot of people that like it - it is a matter of choice, me I like the contact with each customer - but it is what we like and no right answer, thanks for the comment as I know others feel the same way. Jack

you misunderstood about sizing them up, has nothing to do with price, the price for one is the same for all, but like having 25 bucks for it and then you take 15 for it, most mark the item up. I had a store and auction for 38 years and did flea markets & swaps. I size them up by what they collect - I save stuff for these who sill pay for a great collectable. If you show it to all it is called "shopping it around" thanks for your input.

Good Info Guys, My Theory Flea Markets are places even "Non-Pickers" want a Great Deal, Price Stickers makes it look either like a "Pro" or a Guy "Trying" too Hard. I had a house sale and didn't price anything, people loved to barter, I put stuff on tables and Boxed stuff, but the area that got more attention if not sales.. was the "Untouched Basement" People felt as if I hadn't "Picked" it my self... ;-)

There is nothing wrong with the guy next to you reselling your item unless he lied to you about wanting it for himself. When we have neighborhood garage sale day I pick up stuff down the street before I set up. What not?

@itsDJR your right at first it seem hard - but after awhile it is fun all the people you meet and all we learn - I owe 1000 different people for what I know and have used to get buy and score - Vince will be ok - Im going to take him out there - swaps are for the smothe and pros - hard work and sweat, long hours and paid weekly-very weakly lol - but you always score - oh yes - the more you know the more you make - I love swaps and fleas. Jack

You people keep coming out with great information all the time, just a couple of ideas do you think that color codes or number codes or even picture codes on items is ok to use at a yard sale example blue means $5 to$10 item and green is 10 to $20.00 item and so on.? I hear a train in the background most times your on the air, you must be located near a rail crossing or something maybe we should give you a nick name like maybe train yard boys or train yard pickersinc11.
