Amy…I’m 74 years old, ran, skated and now cycle. 45 years ago I, like you, found myself in effectively the same hole you were in…depression, anxiety. Ten years later I crawled out. Like you I never want to fall back in the hole. Please understand how important your honest and frank discussions of these issues are. If they help me, I know there are others who have seen some rough patches during their lives and appreciate your message. Thanks. Tom

Haha not elite in any way 😂 V02 max (due to genetics & built up fitness) is at elite level which means with training I could potentially be elite but I’m not trained and it’s too late for that now 😂 I also don’t want to race elite too scary that! I’ll stick to Audax & endurance 🙌

Amy, you are an inspiration. I had lots on mental health issues in 2020 and was considering suicide before I managed to get some help. I’m still not honest with the people I love about how bad things got. I started biking and running in 2021 and I started feeling much better and that continues to today. I’m still in therapy and I’ve also started yoga and meditation. You inspire me and many others because of your openness and honesty about your personal experiences. I would never be able to to do a KZread channel like this and tell the whole world. I think if I could do that, I would consider myself much better. Keep up the great job of keeping us all motivated. Thank you much.

Just few words of advice Amey. 1. Make use of any off rd surfaces to reduce the long term impact. Def buy some new running shoes asp. Keep the rd race distance below 1/2 marathon to start with. A pair of studs for running on soft ground will enhance your ankle strength. Muti terrain events are more relaxed as you tend to forget about clock times. I'm 69 and have run since I was 19. Took up cycling at 54 and must admit the cycling is more enjoyable.

44 min for a 10K run is really good. Not like world champion good but definitely a very respectable time that many people having run for much longer would envy you. Also, the great thing about running is that it is very affordable - you just need a pair of decent shoes really - and it can be done more or less anywhere, whenever you want, and with only a pair of shoes to clean afterwards if the weather has been horrible.

My 10K PB is 42:05, I did a sub 20min parkrun last summer and I run my first marathon last October, finished in 3:19. I say I am an above average runner. But running give me so many injuries that I am still dealing with one right now. Running is a lot harder on your body than cycling. Cyclists needs to be careful and take it slow.

Wow well done Amy. Yes really enjoyed your video, I love my cycling and being able to jump on my bike and go off somewhere but I also love running or rather I used to. I am 62 and started running when I was about 55 I lost a lot of weight and running was a big part of that, these last couple of years I have had spells of bad health and injuries my fitness levels have dropped but I have been trying to run more regularly. At the moment I have managed two 5k`s a week but I am struggling I am letting my diet slip some what and though I don`t class myself as having an eating disorder I have an addictive personality, I am 14 years sober as in a recovering alcoholic and clean from illicid drugs but I binge on chocolate from time to time and then feel bad. So I am trying to get my eating under control and slowly build my running up again, about 5 years ago I was in a great space with my running, fitness, eating. I ran a half marathon and was running about 4 times a week doing 5k, 8k,10k and a 18k I was never that fast but pretty good for my age, I know I can never go back but if I can get myself fit again, loose some weight and run more often that would be great. So it was great to see your vlog today on running and I feel inspired from it. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more running vids.

Crikey, so much in that one. I think you are re-taking running for yourself rather than restarting. You look great! but more importantly well and healthy. Watch the injury thing, with running it is just you and the road but when on a bike the forces are through your natural levers and bikes tend to find a way of maximising injuries - they are little evil pain machines when it comes to injuries. I am no runner but that time seems pretty quick to me. Whether walking or out on the bike, the sense of wellbeing is so good for me, I guess that is why so many partake in outdoor activities. My fav recovery drink after a hard work out is Skyre, milk, frozen cherries and heaps of chocolate powder. ( Skyre is high in protein and the choc powder is nearly all sugar, the taste combo with the cherries really kicks the taste buds in to signifying that there is some good stuff in-coming and it feels like your body immediately starts to send stuff to your legs, it's almost bizarre. ) Nice work on the two lab videos, I think they explain the LT1/2 thing as well as any I have previously seen. Good results for both of you too!

I find running harder to manage in terms of volume, you can very quickly get an injury. I use a widget on my garmin that has my weekly milage as a percentage of monthly so tells me if I'm over 10%, which is likely when injuries happen. With cycling I don't seem to be able to get injured athletically but cars an really mess you up which has a much lower risk with running. I like both, so do both!

You are young and a lightweight so won’t bother you now but when you get older it probably will. Don’t ignore problems when you are young, you pay for it in later years.

@@rollandjoesephevery person I've spoken to who does running. Some of them do ultra running and triathlon. Have said if you're a cyclist then don't start to run because it will ruin your leg's. Maybe it's different if you go from running to cycling .

I exercise 9-10 hours per week, if I do cycling/swimming/basketball, I am fine. But If I run over 8 hours per week I will get injured within couple of month. Running is a lot harder on your body than cycling. I run my first marathon last October, finished in 3:19. I also did sub 20 parkrun last summer. I say I am an above average runner. But running give me so many injuries that I am still dealing with one right now. Now I just run twice per week.

Stick to the bike Amy…Running induces joint/hip wear over the long term.. it’s mostly a psychological validation for people..
