First Road Test with the New Interior (and a close look at it) - Daily Driving a Classic Weekly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

First road test with the new interior in my 1975 Jaguar XJ6. Since you couldn't see whole interior that well in the last video I take you for a drive so we can have a close look at it. It feels like my daily driver is back on the road now and there will be more daily driving a classic weekly.

It's a great conversion, Adam. The 40's seats do look very well suited to the classic XJ6 interior style, and the colour match is pretty much spot on! I'm looking forward to finally being able to fix up my own XJ40 3.2S and I'll be sure to use your channel for tips and ideas. I'd love a Series 2 XJ6 as well, but we can't have everything, especially living in the south of England where space is at a premium. Well done on the XJ40 seat swap and thank you for the great content.

Looks very good the colour match is excellent too. Will be nice to see those seat controls moved more forward, also the installation of the heated seat switches. I would add some wood on the doors and centre console, I think the early Series 3 Daimler is the same design.

Adam, you're going to find that the seat bottom is going to require a little more than a few bends. The drive shaft tunnel on the Series 1-3 is a bit higher that the XJ40. I had to cut and weld the frame front and rear to get it to fit around the tunnel. I also made bends in the frame wires in various places to try to narrow the frame a bit and to get it to conform to the Series 1-3 seat pan. I got it to where I liked it, bit found when I tried to fit it with the seat back in place, the seat cushion wouldn't go back far enough because the seat back is a tad longer as is the seat cushion. It is wedged in right now and sits really well. I will be pulling it out again for a final adjustment. I riveted in plates to the back of the seat back frame that would engage the original mounting tabs on the body. I also fabricated brackets that use the original bolt holes at the bottom. No need for anything else to hold the seat back in place. It's rock solid. Yours looks great. Enjoy! I hated the low back on the original seats. Sir William didn't want the seat back to be higher than the window sill.

Nice, the seats made a huge upgrade. Better than new. The other headrests were not the best, these are. Been driving my XJ40 it is such a great smooth quiet ride. A fantastic design. Are you going to deal with the other fuel tank? Do they use a seperate fuel pump? If so that would make it as a good back up. It is looking and running great. You know your getting there, when the things you still have to do are minor. Check out leather restoration, supplies are cheap.
