This isn't a song you listen to once and make a take on. Study the lyrics and listen multiple times. You guys have already said its growing on you after multiple listens. It won a grammy for a reason. This is coming from a Tool fan of 2 decades. I can't stand the community, if Im honest. But this song is insanely good. Especially from a drums perspective. Played drums from high school to now( 15 years later). No matter the opinion I appreciate this channel and all those involved. Everytime you have a new upload Im plugged in. God bless!

Appreciate your take Merovinjian, your right, that can be a problem with doing reactions, theres no chance to soak it in with re-listens and then give an opinion, Maybe that should be a thing we should incorporate. Thanks for keeping up with the channel Mero!

This won a Grammy for best metal performance. I don’t think you have to like every Tool song but you guys get off on being critical for the sake of being critical. Pretty funny given the stuff we’ve heard you play. But to each their own.

I like the shot at the music , dont blame u ,Tool is a sensitive subject but to be honest we dont get off on being critical MJJ311, always looking for the tune that will blow our minds, Tools been the one to do it before but this one didnt hit the mark straight away and we had to express that ,but to be even more honest, on the upload on the a 2nd listen I started to feel it a lot more and think its actually a grower, which most music is

Saying they're being critical for the sake of being critical isn't a fair take. These guys are just being true to how they feel at the time and they've been blown away by Tool songs in the past. Their feelings and words have always been true to the heart. Even at the start of the video they've said they are going into this with no bias unlike before where they have been swayed by the comment section at times. I appreciate the opinions expressed in the video, even if I do not agree with them they are understood and appreciated. Keep up the good work fellas and let's work on that sharp audio!

I rarely comment on anything on youtube. But this video got me very interested. I dont consider myself as Tool fan as you are mentioning, since I dont have any need to defend or argue about any of their work. Some of us are watching reaction videos, to be again in the position to re-hear the songs for the first time from all of you reactors. And what you commented, was pretty much how I felt after listening (to some songs) on the new album. Now, I was introduced to Tool somewhere around 1998 or 89, Album was Aenima.I wasnt blown away, but it got me very interested. For me personally, regarding specific songs, Flood is the one that stands out. And you cant hear or read much or see reactions to that song. To me, as a song, Flood is a masterpiece. Flood, and 7empest, are two very different worlds. Very different moods, very different type of music. At least to my ears. Same band, but different worlds. I prefer that raw sound of the Undertow album. Turn they made with Aenima was a big one, but it was in the right direction. 7empest for me, is something that I dont identify as Tool. I mean, winning a grammy or not is not as relevant, as the fact that 7empest, although a very good piece, is not what I am used to receive from Tool. I see 7empest as some guitar show. As no song before. In 7empest I dont feel Maynard and his voice as an additional instrument that carries me around. Danny is not giving me goosebumps. Justin is almost not recognizable for me. Whole album, Fear Inoculum, is in my opinion, a big turn, but this time in a slightly wrong direction. At least for my music preference. The way I see it, after Lateralus, which was and is true masterpiece, is hard to create masterpiece on that level again. even 10.000 days, which has many good songs, excellent ones, is not as formed and complete sa Lateralus. Regarding your reaction and video itself, I must say that quality of the audio you listened was horrible. I dont know if it was like that for you also. Commenting on the lenght of the song right from the beginning has no point for me. Reading peoples comments even less. 7empest will grow on you after listening to it more, and forgetting about the comments, especially forgetting about what you heard before from Tool before. Still, 7empest for me will never be on the level of many other songs they created. Although its a grammy winner. Thank you for your time and I apologize for my English. Best of luck.

Thank you for being honest! Tool filter out those who doesn't have time for art. You have to work to get into it, to understand it. When I first listened to their new album, I thought "well, long for no reason, I liked their previous staff more". I didn't give a go for another 2 years. And then I accidentally listened to Descending, was in my recommendations. I noticed small part in it that I wanted to play on guitar. And when I tried to decipher it, I went into the rabbit whole of polyrhythms, of pentatonics and clever arpeggiation, I was lost. I swallowed all album seeing it with new eyes, and I listened to it half of 2022 and all 2023. This is the best thing ever happened to me. The time for you to see something in this album will come. It may be 5, maybe 20 years, but it will. Once you listened to it once, it won't let you go.

It seems you do yourself a great disservice by asking how long a song is. It begins to be measured extra harshly by your own standards because it must somehow prove to be worth THAT much time. Perhaps for further Tool or any other songs it would be nice to be ignorant of its length to avoid this apparent time-bias?

Many of your sentiments I shared when I first listened to this song; however, like most TOOL songs, it takes a plethora of listens to grasp what their intent is with the each song. To compare “The Pot” with “7empest” is like comparing apples with gyoza; one takes several bites to finish, the other one single chomp. Though it is not my favorite song off the album (“Invincible” should have nailed the Grammy) Adam Jones’ 5 mins plus solo is incredible alone. As a fellow musician, in an era of 2 min. pop songs that are auto-tuned to hell, a prog-rock masterpiece like this will fly under the radar. Oh well… such is our generation!

The audio on this video was absolute torture. I was actually agreeing with you when you just wanted it to stop at the end. Oh and all Tool songs are just jam sessions Frankensteined into something interesting. I do agree they leave you to chew on the same riffs a little too long in this one but it has grown on me since my first listen. It doesn’t go in the playlist but I don’t skip it if I’m listening to the album.

I'd say Fear Inoculum was more a band jam album vs. songs. It;s a kind of record that frequently asks you to get lost in the sauce. But when that sauce ain't your flavor on any particular day it gets loooonng. Like any other progressive rock or metal. Yes, Genesis, King Crim... I can vibe with thisone, but Tool isn't exempt from that crit.

I saw them last Friday. I really enjoy a lot of their music, but their set wore on me after a while because the songs are so long and kinda same-y. I found myself waiting for the songs to finish. After seeing them live , I discovered that I guess I prefer to listen to their music while I'm driving rather than having my full attention 🤷🏽‍♀️ I don't think that's inherently a bad thing either.

@@ijustneedmyself I can see that. Especially you weren't ready for 6- or 10-min songs. Or you have no problem with longer songs and Tool just didn't vibe with you. To your point when I saw them for the first time in Oct I was bummed they didn't play some of their other songs, which I think b/c of the newer, lengthy Fear Innoculum songs

The audio on this one isn't very good, but I think it's due to being from a live recording. Anyway, though I don't necessarily agree with some of JB's points, I do understand them and respect it. Songs like this one or for example "Third Eye" from Tool's second album can take some time for people to get into them and some may never get there. which is fine. Unlike some other hardcore fans, I do prefer reactors who actually speak their mind, rather then the ones who just praise everything, many times faking it. If you don't like something it's fine to say so and if you have criticism you should express it as long as it makes sense and like I said, although I may personally not agree with some of the criticism expressed here I do understand where it's coming from and I do think it's a fair point on why it wasn't enjoyable for you. As a final note, I think that this song, as it is the case with many others, makes a lot more sense when you hear the whole album from start to finish then isolated.

If you were precise you'd say it's about your musical preference as opposed to length. Because If you really enjoyed it you wouldn't mind listening for 12 mins. I'm never going to argue a subjective taste, that'd be foolish because we're all different. What I don't like is your attitude of rolling eyes backwards, interrupting, "please say it's over". Nah dude, you're a grown man with hopefully a bit of patience in you still. You can either own your decision and listen or just turn it off.

This song just sounded like Tools catalogue all patched together into one song, lacking the subtlety of their best work. It has nice parts, but the sum of those parts dont really do much for me. Descending is my favourite track off the album, and is a much better example of the culmination of all their musical experience squeezed out into one very good song.

Saying Maynard's voice sounds 'plain' isn't a wrong take. Over time Maynard has hurt his vocals and being older he's toned back for the sake of saving his voice in his age so we don't hear as much 'emotion' like we used to. He's also wanted to put much more influence on the instrumentals rather than vocals.
