Keith Richards was once told that he was a great guitar player... he answered no... that there were 2 or 3 guitarists in this world who could be called guitar masters... and miles above them this Paco de Lucia...

Grazie grande Paco R.I.P.

I could spend hours talking about Flamenco and especially the great Paco de Lucia, the GOAT of guitar. I had the fortune to be able to attend 17 of his concerts and even managed on one occasion to talk to him - an incredibly humble and even shy person he seemed.Paco went through various stages in his career, revolutionizing everything, changing everything from the position to sit to play guitar to the guitar itself because before him guitarists used the typical Flamenco guitar made of white cedar and Andalusian pine. One day Paco started using what some call a "hybrid" guitar, a mix of classical concert guitar and Flamenco. In this way Paco discovered that when he wanted he could make it sound sweet and solemn like a classical guitar or aggressive and powerful like a Flamenco guitar. He rethought the harmonies, explored other genres, for example in the famous Friday Night at San Francisco concert in 1981 when he improvised with Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. here are two examples paco de Lucia Sextet: Solo quiero caminar kzread.info/dash/bejne/o2yq0piLoM3go8o.html PAco, Di Meola; McLaughlin kzread.info/dash/bejne/eXtpl9yRe8WpZpM.html I hope you enjoy
paco de lucia the best guitar of the world
Well, Paco de Lucía is "the God of the guitarists"! He pushed the technical level to the highest point possible, he explored the base of the traditional flamenco guitar and made the style evolve with new harmonies/melodies and introducing new instruments, he also explored different music style like classical music (concerto de Aranjuez, Manuel de Falla) and Jazz (playing with John Mc Laughlin, Al di Meola, Larry Corriel, Chick Corea, etc). His music is so rich that you have to listen to his entire discography to understand how important he has been for the evolution of the guitar, because there are so many styles he has been through. By the way the version of "Entre dos aguas" you just listened was improvised, if you listen to the CD version or other live version it's going to be different. Paco de Lucia is just a monument of the music history, as a professional guitarist I have been inspired by him and I feel lucky to have been alive at the same time as him, I feel lucky to have been able to see him in concert at 5 meters from him several times.
This piece was created 3 years before this video during the sessions of Paco´s LP Fuente y caudal. After recording the other tracks of the album, all of them flamenco numbers,Paco and the musicians improvised this one in a rumba rythm just for relaxing. The piece was recorded and included in the LP and was a best selling single in Spain that marked the beginning of success for Paco. It´s great,as you noticed, the amount of beautiful melodies and riffs that he brings up.Awesome!
The best comments AFTER the performance! Without silly interruptions!! Well done! Excellent I enjoyed!

He is so good. Thanks for your art Paco. Thanks for sharing this.
Having first heard this when I was 20 - in the days of Return to Forever and Al Di Meola, Stanley Clarke, CHick Corea et al....now 50 years later I still cry when I hear this. To completely immerse oneself in the true artistry and expression of the soul - music.
All the musical talents a man can posses are in him! Speed, accuracy, brilliant sense of harmony and depth that only a few in the 20th century posses.

@@sabina1118 4:09 this technique is called picado, i bet you don't even realize, how difficult it is to master it at this tempo and with this kind of accuracy and articulation, it's far more complex to play it with your fingers than with plectrum .That's why he is guitar God. Mark Knopfler once said "After hearing Paco I discovered that I don't know how to play a guitar". =)

Flamenco was the original genre Paco grew up in, though this is a little bit more of a fusion. The skill, the speed and the expressiveness! The percussionist was Peruvian Pepe Ébano, masterful performance from him, too. I tend to go still watching this, just enjoying every pluck, every hammer-on and pull-off.

Rumba gained a lot of protagonism with the past of the time.. With more rythm It was very played on 70's decade. Most in Catalonia. Peret is the principal artist that song "by" rumba style. Rumba rythms drinks from latin sounds like Cuba specially. As you say, its a fusion from S. XVIII where the commerce was very importanr between Sevilla or Cádiz Ports and La Habana. The Spanish gypsies listened it mixing with Flamenco OG
As a decendant of a gipsy familyclan where the singing was 'primero', we always heard with respect when Paco was playing. His heart was his guitar and his guitar was his heart. Look also for : Fandangos. Pilar Bogado. 2021 ( My family...) pilar is a wonderfull singer.
When I was a teenager, in the summer, I often relaxed in the sun with my walkman, playing a casette tape, and one of my favorites was Paco De Lucia sextet's "Live... One Summer NIght". It's a killer album that always makes me think of summer.
Paco de Lucía is recognised as one of the greatest guitarists in the world! Glad you like it, he's just superb. He's a natural Flamenco guitarist, but he did all kinds of collaborations, he was the guitar with Bryan Adams in "Have you ever loved a woman?". Thanks for your video! 💜☮️ from Spain

The vibrato that Paco de Lucía puts in his music, plucking the strings so hard, is not something that anyone has the courage to do. This shows not only an overwhelming faith in his fingers (which had to be very strong to be able to do it), but an overwhelming confidence in his own skill, which leaves you with your mouth open, especially with the speed at which he moves his fingers, both by the neck as well as by the strings. Simply hypnotic.
Simply the Greatest guitar of all time. Paco❤

The amazing thing is Paco did not read music. So in order to learn the classical piece, he would look up in a music book an explanation for any note he didn't understand. It took him about 20 days to understand the piece, then he played it on tour in South America to polish it. When he went to Spain for its premiere it was the most nervous he's ever been in his life because he knew a lot of great guitarists and music critics would show up (and he was afraid that a lot of classical guitarists would blast him, a flamenco player for trying to play a classical piece). Outside of a few critics (and even the best classical musicians can expect the occasional less than stellar review from at least one critic), it became THE best interpretation of the work - with even the composer Rodrigo praising Paco's performance (and coming on stage with Paco for the curtain call.

Paco is a flamenco player, although, having started playing more traditional, crowd-pleasing music, he expanded into a more fusion-based, jazzy crossover style. He played with many jazz greats and is one of the best flamenco players of all time. I first heard him playing with the 'Guitar Trio', with John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola on the album Passion, Grace and Fire, and the classic live album, Friday Night in San Francisco.
Another great choice, Sabina. Wonderful. Love from Portugal

He was also one third of an 80's acoustic guitar trio with Al Di Meola (who played electric guitar with the jazz/rock group Return To Forever) and John McLaughlin (who played electric guitar with the Mahavishnu Orchestra). That trio was similar, with all three of them trading fast acoustic lead guitar passages between them. On KZread just type their names in any order - the song "Mediterranean Sundance" might be the most popular.

If you want to branch out from here, you can go into two directions: Paco's relation with Western jazz (popular?) musicians and check out "Friday night in San Francisco" that was recorded live of him playing with John McLaughlin and Al di Meola (he played with them, maybe). The other direction is [el] Camerón de la Isla that Paco accompanied (with another famous guitar player called Tomatito). El Camerón was the singer and together with other musicians they brought a revival of flamenco music.
I have seen your Ren reactions. Many other reactions to Ren... So many talk about Ren's guitar skill. While I agree that Ren is good, THIS man is a master. R.Gray and Rackelhane mentioned two more who have worked with Paco... John McLaughlin and Al DiMeola. The first time I heard Ren, I thought, "he's pretty good, BUT..." Great reaction! First of all, I say that I am Spanish, specifically from Andalusia, the birthplace of flamenco (so I apologize in advance for my English), flamencon is heard throughout Spain, although where it has the most weight is in Andalusia, what memories does this music bring back to me? I have been listening to it Since I was little, thanks to my grandmother and my mother, I must say that I always get goosebumps when listening to this music, it is superior to me, plus it was the first music I learned to play xd. If I remember correctly, Carlos Santana said that while his guitar was tuned by Los Angeles, Paco de Lucia's was tuned by God.
In Spain, most of all in Andalusia, we say he was the one who defeated Tárrega

Paco never learn music when he was young, he learn all by himself with his guitar, pushed by his father, quite hard. He could spent 12h a day of playing. You should watch Tiko-Tiko by him, you'll be amazed.
Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits said after a concert of Paco de Lucia: " I realized I have no idea of playing guitar ".
some passages sound identical to passion grace and fire.... by Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin -
The genre is: 'RUMBA FLAMENCA". As Flamenco has different subgenres. There is the SOLEA FLAMENCA which is a kind of sad guitar. Also there is the " BURLERIA FLAMENCA", which is more dynamic and, of course this one subgenre called RUMBA, this is fast, with percussion and with some roots of African, Middle East and Gipsy influence which, by The way, is the main ingredient in Flamenco in general. Flamenco couldn't have existed without the Gipsies.
You should definetely react to the guitar trio - Paco De Lucia, Al Di Meola, and John McLaughlin 😁✋
