My favorite trivia tidbit about this song is Bette Davis contacted Kim Carnes and thanked her for making Bette Davis's grandchildren think she's really cool because of the song.

Bette Davis was an incredible actress from many decades ago. She wasn't a conventional movie beauty but her talent was massive. When on the screen she could hold her own with an star of her day,man or woman. One word to describe Bette would be "confident "

Kim Carnes , who is in her 70's now, had one of the most beautiful husky voices ever. This song is so entrancing on so many levels. Merci, mon cherie!, for reviewing this chanson. Je suis un subscriber de Manitoba. J'adore ton chanel. Tu as une belle voix. I hope that you comprehend what I am saying, my French is a little outdated. Also , Bette Davis ' eyes were in fact were large and would look right through you, in that terminology. Look into your soul and such.

For a long time I didn't know this was a cover. Kim Carnes is a song writer and was involved in most of the songwriting on this album. But this song was originally released in the 70s by Jackie DeShannon who co-wrote it

You might try Bonnie Tyler's tune Total Eclipse of the Heart. She's got a rasps in her voice too. She had throat problems early in her carrier and was told she wouldn't sing anymore. After that she had a hit with It's a Heartache. It's a solid but basic tune. she released eclipse in the 80s. It was written by Jim Stienman who wrote Meatloaf who you might want to check out. Try Paradise by the Dashboard Light by him

2:00 You commented - "I really enjoyed the rasp in her voice" I searched through your videos and noticed you have not reacted to Janis Joplin yet. Oh boy, you're in for a treat. Not only does she have a raspy voice (when she wants to), she also puts copious amounts of soul into her singing. She really wore her heart on her sleeve, and let the emotion pour out. Mandatory songs to listen to by Janis would be, "Piece of My Heart", "Me and Bobby McGee", "Summertime", "Ball and Chain". There's many more, but those are all worth a listen for sure.

Love to sing this song myself, although i'm not a singer. Catchy melody, rough voice and easy lyrics to sing along with. This song takes me back to the time when i was doing my military service in Germany (as a Belgian). Two other songs from Kim that have touched me are the beautiful ballad "Breaking away from sanity" (with a choir) and the "Universal Song" from her album "Café Racers". If there is one artist that i personally would recommend you to listen to is Annabel Lamb. Just give it a try and listen to her song "Dream Boy". I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy it!

A typical one hit wonder of the 80s ! I like it, but I can't remember any other song of her. Maybe I should give her a chance. In 1981 I was 20 years old and we hadn't the opportunity to listen to selected songs in the internet. In fact, there was no internet.😉 We had only radio and tv ! I banned radio songs on my cassette deck. On "Compact Cassette", a kind of tape recording. Enough memories of an old fart... 😂 Great song ! 👍 Another great one hit wonder like this was Marylin Martin with "Night Moves"kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpWslqyGdZO1abA.html. Even much more "rockier" (I was/am more on the hard side 🤘)

That exhale at 5:22 says it all! This is such a great song. Kim Carnes was a one-hit wonder here in the UK, but what a hit to be remembered for! The 80s had so many iconic songs where the vocal, music and video all came together to make something really unique and memorable, and this is just one example of how great that decade was. As others have said, this was a cover, as were several songs that are now considered classics of the 80s, so of course some credit has to go to the original writers/singers, yet many of the remakes far outshone the originals.

The original song in the mid 70s was not very good, Kim and her team freshened it up, and even Bette Davis loved it.

Hello. I have 2 suggestions, not sure if you've done videos on these songs. Since you mentioned a raspy voice, 'Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. See if you can locate a video or music clip of the album version. The song was written by Jim Steinman who wrote many of Meat Loaf's hits and it's very dramatic. Ah, speaking of drama....in the late 1970s, the concept album Jeff Wayne"s War of the Worlds was released. It's based on the original HG Wells novel, not the George Pal or Tom Cruise movies. One song from the album, "Forever Autumn" got some airplay. The song features Justin Haywood on vocals (lead singer of the Moody Blues) and the voiceover narration of one of the most distinctive voices of the 20th Century, Richard Burton. The song is hauntingly beautiful, the orchestration is amazing and it will evoke much emotion in you.

I find it quite telling Verdy's almost natural in-synchs with the track, beckoning us to its pop hooks and instrumentation therein, which is a different ball of wax than other reactions of rock she has done as of late. But if anyone cares to go down memory lane in her channel and conduct reaction forensics on Verdy's K-pop I reckon that synth-pop or techno-pop can be argued that it's a soundscape that Verdy much favors. With all due respect to the KZread producer TopCulture potpourri, -which by the way has been comprehensively culled from the Billboard and not The UK Singles Chart (currently titled the Official Singles Chart, namely the upper section more commonly known as the Official UK Top 40), compiled by the Official Charts Company (OCC), on behalf of the British record industry. Again bar the hit parades that catered heavily to America's mainstream which left us with so many one-hit wonders. a more comprehensive and representative list would sample the abundance of musical acts from the British Isles or rarely those from continental Europe's that trailblazed through pop. Even though global brands like ABBA and British rock/pop titans made the list other artists who had one, two albums max, breakthroughs did not top the chart. This last phenomena pervaded through the 80s even when they didn't top the charts or the B100 (due to marketing purchasing space or airplay among radio/TV stations) those resonated and still do like a Second British Invasion that reached our shores.. Verdy's musical ear was from very early tuned to a musical background which luckily to us exposed her to a much agreeable soundscape whereby both Atlantic continents were abled to perfect the formula in the 80s thereon and left us nodding and humming to it still in a big way. All in all, it helps the formula adding such a killer ingredient, like a music video -vital in the 80s decade-, in this case a great visual choice for Carnes' Bette Davis' Eyes, and the same directed by no other than film and music video giant Russell Mulcahy, who directed among many other classics the Highlander films, and Supertramp's "It's Raining Again" a short film all in its own.
