Dang man...that thing was made for those trails! It’s definitely a big buggy but it looks way smaller when it’s out there. I think people thought it may have been too big just because of how it looked in the garage. Pretty sweet though, definitely would outperform some of the side by sides that cost 10k more than it 😂

BBR!! Hey guys! Isn't he good? You guys are just as great. Love the Wankel! Epic. This Buggy is, I think, his best build yet. I see the weak point in chain final drive. I realize a shaft setup would be very involved. But, has that stopped either of you masters (Build Break Repeat and rather B welding) before?! :-) (Wishful thinking; I don't have to do the work). It would be a challenge. It would also provide the room for gear reduction. Hint, Hint. ;-) ;-) And reverse.

Need to find a mr2 or Prius power steering pump. They go inline from the wheel to the rack and pinion and are fully electric. That would help keep the wheel under control in the rocks

Well.. also look up scrub radius. Having the pivot point next to the wheel means a lot of leverage.

James Hughes just gotta turn when the car lets you. My older cars without power steering were a breeze to push hard once I drove it for a day. Why? Because you feel the road in your hands. You feel it trying to lose traction not just flat out losing it then shitting the bed. In this case it might be the right application. But the classic steering damper set up would do it surely

This defines the "built not bought" principal, love this rig man, you've come a long way and this is definitely a build to be proud of

Awesome buggy! But you upshift too much and then lug engine at pow rpm too much.. It’s a motorcycle engine. It’s ok to run it over 3000 rpm, in fact lugging it around is actually worse for it. Rev it out man!

It needs shaft drive, reverse, and lower gearing. (Hence the higher RPMS, which I agree are the friend of this engine). I love these V4s. Bitch to work on but smooth and powerful. Dual range trans would probably be a bit much, and probably not needed. I guess it depends on what he really wants to use it for. Where he is driving it now, I would opt for "Mountain Goat" ratio. Like the KTM 175 I rode in days of yore. First gear would make grandma yell, "Can't this go any faster? I can walk faster than this!" She had a "walker". With tennis balls for feet.

discontinued engine, no more part for it. This is why he got it for under 500$. this kind of engine brand new cost maybe 4000$ or more.

jlucasound dual range trans, in this case would be interchangeable with a reverse gear.

Your plugs are loading up. Try to hit at least 10,000 rpm once in awhile. It's not a diesel.

it aint runnin ryt. did you see him push it to the floor in neutral ? it only wound to 8 and was slow gettin there. i have this bike and its a freakin beast!!!

In motorcycle dragracing, we would clean then cover the master link in silicone to prevent it from popping off.

Through all the trials and tribulations you just kept moving forward scrapping things that did'nt come out as expected and improvising and inventing new ones that do. Shock absorber for the steering. Like a damper that street bikes have. Should help keep the wheel from yanking out of your hand. And keep your thumbs out of the wheel in those scenarios. Hurts real good when it spins around and bend them backwards.

The KPI is completely off and he knows that already, people pointed that out in one of the build videos. That's why the steering is punishing him like that.

Very cool, Chris! There’s no better feeling for a builder than when he can see his creation working as he drives it... The articulating suspension, the shifting mechanism, the steering components, etc.... such a cool feeling of achievement, especially when it doesn’t break! I always remember my first rides each time I complete a build.

I am really impressed. I think you did a really awesome job.

If a wheel slams into an object and rotates the steering wheel quickly, yo thumb will be in the way of all that projection

You don't need a bigger motor looks like your lugging it most of the time. Rev it on up some. Let it smoke a little.

Indeed, unless he is using very little throttle, in which case it would be hypermiling (ie economizing gas). Don't lug your engine people, it is not good for them.

Just a suggestion for the rear suspension and limiting straps. I noticed that you are hitting the limiting straps over mild soft bumps causing your suspension to stop way too soon, this at high speed bumps can cause your rear to bounce around and causes poor if not dangerous handling. Try mounting the top of the rear coilovers lower and loosen the top collar to get the same ride height but more down travel. You have huge coils and should be able to keep those rear wheels on the ground unless you are hitting jumps. Other than that and the "break your wrist" steering this build turned out great. Keep it up.

He really needs to lose the upper coils and go with a pillow soft tender spring. And raise the overall height a few inches as well. The front seems to work great though. The geometry is far more reasonable.

Agree. But first I'll say that's a huge smile on your face sir. Good win, good proper shake down run. Congrats on that. The smaller kinks will get worked out, no stressing on those, and no stressing on YT comments. The steering rack might need more ratio so you can control the wheel more. It might also need a steering stabilizer like ATVs use. I have a Denton stick style, that might be easiest to mount for your application. I'm not going to fake knowing more about steering stuff, just spitting those two ideas out there. As for the suspension, I agree with these guys and attach myself to their remarks in hopes you see them. Your ride height shouldn't be where the shock is now. It really should be centered in the shock stroke, or less. Yes, this would mean working on mounting and yes that would suck, but this rig is worth it. Properly weighted coils and centered shocks would help even more with your overall ride feel. You think it rides good now, spend the extra video centering the shocks. Everyone can wait, you are in it for the long haul. Can you cut the drive chain shorter? Stripped it down after the upper shock relocation and more shake down runs, paint or powdercoat the frame clear. Sucker looks great as is. Thumbs up. Freaking good on you dude.

You should add a secondary transmission with a High, Low, and reverse. That would give you more flexibility and torque on the trails and more speed on the road. Plus you could add a reverse gear while you're at it.

The proportions on this rig are hilarious...6” of wheel travel and a 36” long shock. Leg length would fit any normal 12 year old but your torso could be that is Shaq.

The radiator I'm using on mine is a Honda CIvic radiator...... They are cheap and they cover more space- it works well you might try one like that. It looks very simple and does not look out of place at all....... search Ebay for "honda civic radiator" .. and look for the aluminum rad... it works great.

mayby a bit , but the cooler gasoline enters the carb the better it will run ,, his fuel was boiling in the fuel line not gonna help it run .

That motor shouldn't have a main link type where it clips. It needs a pressed on link so that it doesn't pop off like it did. Fyi

OK. Calm down guys. I have had this argument before. Never reached a conclusion. Personal preference. I prefer not to call an internal combustion engine a motor. But technically, Lucas is right. (No, we are not related. Lucas is his first name). The fact of the matter is, he needs an "endless" chain. (Would need mods to install. I vote for a drive shaft). See what you started, Josh? ;-)

Wow, just wow! The smile on your face says it all. Those straps are limiting suspension travel when you go around corners - that is a fantastic side effect - keeps it flat around corners.

You need to take that thing to the sand dunes... thats where it will really THRIVE... Just gear it up for higher speed.. get a nice set up paddles. and You got yourself a pretty sick dune buggy. .. Nice job..... I mean, you still havent even been able to open her up yet.... we're barely moving on these rough trails.............. You need your first dune experience-- I can't recommend it enough... Take a trip, I promise that it will be worth the long drive.

chain breakage...you have too much chain wrapped around the driven sprocket...any room to drop your idler gear down and make a straighter angle? Lots of binding going on there

His chain setup is pretty bad, but it has nothing to do with the master link falling off. But i guess you're too smart to admit beeing wrong.

I am not sure but a a chain tencener that uses an spring insded of a bolt could help 🔩🤔🤔

It's good to see you graduate away from those junky lawnmower motors... I hope you never go back. Japanese motorcycle engines are the way to go my friend. whether it's a 450 quad or a 1000cc R1 engine... or even a 250 2 stroke... again, I hope you never go back to those lawn mowers. lol.......... also, SnowMobile engines are next level... I'm running a buggy about like yours (2 seater) with a 500cc Rotax engine.. and it's great.... So get yourself a 500cc or bigger and you're golden.

I can't handle how slow he drives it, felt like it was idling through the course. Step on the damn gas, the engine likes to rev it out.. It's a crosskart, not a touring kart.

@@Andrew-hp1yj Sure, bigger tires for better traction for his comfy zone, however short wheels makes it low gravity center, which is perfect for not to worry about rolling easily. I'd say, still rip it.

Really admire what you do without any help mate...you just get on with it..over and over and over. Kudos! ..that must have been a blast getting it out on a track, and outa 1st gear!...great build for something that you're making up as you go along. Lot's of good comments on here from other crew who noticed the carbs out of balance, the fuel tank as a heat sink, loom protection, chain being wrapped too tight around a 10 tooth sprocket then doubled back on the idler like that.. your framing looks great...next buggies are going to be supajuice!
