    It is crazy how almost every new turntable (Midi Turntable) in this case was inspired from the Technics SL-1200 mk2. We've seen so many Decks with similar arrangements and looks which has brought so much variety to the market. I think the use of Serato Twelve in conjunction with Seventy Two is impressive, and I like the whole idea of bringing the vinyl feel into it. But at the end of the day at a price point of $999.00 and all it is, is a midi turntable that DEPENDS on software for control is not really worth it. I really like the mixer though, its very impressive.

    Swap one demon for another, not staring at the laptop anymore but now looking at the mixer.... whatever works, dope mixer, one thing I don’t like is, selecting the effects, seems like too much when I can just press one button to get to my echo or flanger and change the length or parameter, quickly. I’m probably gonna buy the 72 buuuuuut after a few more reviews. And the 12s could have had a way to link them like those V7s back in the day, so you won’t need to use 2 usb, Mo mentioned using it with a different mixer but the other guy didn’t really confirm confirm it but it would make sense. Overall it’s like the flux capacitor of mixers right now

    The real test will be if the industry adopts them in their booths. I get that what theyve created is great, the mixer will be able to be brought in a djs normal carry but those 12s are just adding weight and baggage fees. For a mobile DJ great, but for club djs, traveling djs , etc thats just another bells n whistle turntable that didnt answer the need. The "phase" answered a HUGE need , the replacement of needles. Its lightweight, compact, rechargeable and NEEDED. The mixer has a shot, much more NEEDED features than a S9, the screen for example. Those 12s though are just not practical with "phase" being developed

    @Joseph According to the Phase website, the battery life is 10 hours. And as for the latency, that has yet to be tested by the public but it seems like it isn't that bad. It looks very promising overall... one can only hope lol

  • @MisterRemix

  • @DJSkunkieButt

    @DJSkunkieButt

    6 жыл бұрын

    1CBRDUDE sure, it needs to charge, but it has a 10 hr battery life, and if you make a good habit of slapping them on the charger after every use, you'll never have to worry about it. Plus, you can always bring a pair of needles with you in case you ever accidentally forget to charge it over several uses and somehow fully kill it (I don't foresee that ever happening). Then you'd just resort to traditional time code vinyl. As for the midi vs time code, it's not too big of a difference. In fact, I've seemed to have better precision with time code than midi, and less cables to deal with (no USB to computer as you would need for midi). I just think what the 12s are looking to do is immediately going to get trumped by Phase. That being said, to each their own and whatever floats your boat. There might be a few people who will buy it. But it's definitely not going to be a game changer/popular product.

    I just felt that the rane twelve was a let down, it had a chance to go after the CDJ by making it USB compatible; but instead your left with a huge midi controller that 75% of DJ won’t use. The phase quiet honestly bury the following product, espionage since phase will be compatible with Serato, Traktor, Recordbox, you name it. I’ll be waiting for the phase to come out.

    I can see how the 72 is a game changer, since it has everything an S9 has and more, but at the same time how it's not a game changer and rather traditional (and complicated). Now, image if you could just come into a venue, pop in a USB stick with your own music and custom settings, and start DJing (like RB and CDJs). That would be something. Feels like Serato DJ itself is still holding back all the possibilities. You still need a laptop, and if you're used to a heavily customized set of settings, you would still need to go through endless menus on a tiny screen to get the mixer performing the way you want it. Switching DJs mid set? Ugh. Still, this just killed the S9. Would definitely grab one, if I had the money.

    Although it would be convenient, the technology life cycle of a chipset and storage are way below an average mixer, plus I don't see a future were a mixer would solve your music production and editing needs. I still rather prefer bringing a laptop than my own mixer to a gig.

    We now know what came of the Numark V7mkII... InMusic slapped a Rane sticker on it lol sleek setup but like many have said in the comments the 12 is irrelevant because of PHASE... now if the thing was able to play audio files, you know like have a stripped down Serato built in. as far as new technology .... its bad ass... but for an old school dj... its a bit much because your learning a new language .... but you know somewhere down the line, something else will drop and take the place of this ....

    Put a tone arm on it or drop £500 off the price, that table is a toy joke, the mixer has some nice features but not really anything extra that can't be done a midi mappable mixer .

    The mixer: is an analog mixer + digital + midi controller + audio interface + onboard Fx + software + screen + touchscreen + 2 computer with one mixer + dedicated software controls, etc, etc.... Not exactly the tipical MIDI mixer.

    D-One agreed its a nice unit but its comparable to a all in one stereo system as apposed to dedicated separates, so that's a lot of device's to be without when it goes down, also laptop face will be replaced with mixer squint, too small to be usable for long periods.

    I agree that if it breaks its a huge problem but Rane has a good reputation for build quality and this is for a very very specific Battle/Scratch audience, we tend to prefer all in one so we dont need to carry a million things to a show, especially in crowded Dj booths.

    Which is why having a tonearm on it and media playing functionality off USB drive in addition to the MIDI/HID would be optimal. Also, pretty sure it's made at InMusic's Taiwan factory. The latter might be ok... don't know yet.

    You are a good candidate for a Turntable. Go buy them if you don't already have them. The 12s fill a gap for many. They are awesome.

    Might as well buy a real turntable with that price. Mixer is the only plus!
