    I would like to see this go against the GK Fusion 800S amplifier, betting Sean Fairchild could make that happen 😉

    So Tom. Since you asked, I’d like to see it go head to head with the TT-800.

    Very curious to see the detailed review. I play a Magellan 800 through two 12in bass array-2 cabs. I like it, but do also wonder if I want a little more of that deep throated tube punch/bounce.

    Very nice sounding amps and great demo! I prefer the Kinetix. How does it sound compared to an Aguilar Tone Hammer 700?

  • @BassGearMagazine

    @BassGearMagazine

    I don't have a Tone Hammer on hand, but based upon prior experience, I would say that the Kinetix is more open, airy, and harmonically exciting, and the Tone Hammer is more inherently warm and wooly. But again, I am not able to do a direct A/B with the Tone Hammer. I do, however, have a DB750 on hand, and I think this may be a closer tonal comparison to the Kinetix.

    Thanks. Yeah, tubes definitely have a ‘thing’.

    A huge problem with Class D amp heads is the lack of a way to replace the power module, and the lack of a way to easily remove the tubes for testing and replacement. When the power system goes belly up, you throw away the head. And if you have to eviscerate the amp to work with the tubes, that is a pain in the ass. Frankly, I should be able to unplug and remove the Class D power board and buy a replacement online. Same with tubes!

    The tubes are easily replaced/swapped, but replacing a power module would require a trained tech (and preferably the manufacturer).

    Would love to hear this in a mix without an ultra modern clean sadowsky j bass..

    Fair point! I will try and do just that, though I will point out that is a "Super P, Super J" setup (with the P set to reverse-P, and the J set to '60s location), with no bass or treble boost (but with new Sadowsky Black SS strings). It's a very clear sounding bass, for sure, but it's also inherently quite full. Good point about hearing something in a mix, though.

    @@BassGearMagazinewow your fast! Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I'm looking for an 800w head to pair with a super light neo cabinet setup. Looking for versatility, enough headroom for anything but the character and warmness to pull off Geezer to Jameson to Steve Harris with a loud band.

    @@jagerking7020 Not being a jerk, at all! You raise an excellent point. Personally, I do think that the Kinetix 800 can do everything you are asking for. Heck, those are basically my personal tone goals, as well. But it's nice to hear something in a mix (and in the genre you are after) before buying, for sure!
