    Finally I've found someone who does a great review and doesn't bore me to death within 30 seconds 😅 People need to get over themselves and stop thinking of this category as "entry level/budget" (although the mrp doesn't help with this) I would pay extra to remove the nonsense that manufacturers try to sell as premium. The oven and grill would be straight in the bin for example! I want lightweight, functional but high quality. Swift and Adria are getting close👍

    I don't get many of the negative comments above. The Basecamp 3 ticks almost all the boxes for us. Anf as for the price, in the current economic climate, it does not seem at all unreasonable. Design & quality construction costs. But for me, the lack of fake wood effect on the interior cores major points!

    Had a look at these today. The price is just too high for what it is. You can have a decent Swift with all mod cons for less money that has far more comfort. Just my opinion though.!!

    Really enjoy your videos, they have helped me out. A few weeks ago I got our first caravan, a Viking Fibreline. I’m restoring for next year’s holidays and would like to show it at the Ashby Steam and Vintage. Keep up the good and very informative work. Thank you. Andrew

    Can’t believe the price of these caravans. Last March we bought a brand new swift Major 4SB celebrate from Glossop Caravans and that was £26k. I think you get so little for your money but I suppose this must suit a certain type of camper!

    There’s an element of truth to your comments for sure, the Basecamp has moved away from the entry level van it was at first. Though now it shares the same construction as the top of the range Swift Elegance and has more standard kit than the Sprite range. Yet they’ve managed to keep the price on par. I don’t think Swift have done a very good job at communicating the design changes to improve the Basecamp, also the identical design to its day one launch doesn’t help the wider public realise that it’s had a lot of tweaks and improvements with every year of production.

    Purchased my Basecamp 2, 18 months ago. Still the best model by far (for me) . As it's the only model to feature the two single beds option. After all, you sometimes want to go away with a mate - not in a double bed!! Honestly can't see the point of this model - and that eye-watering price is ridiculous! £6250 more than I paid for my new Basecamp 2!!! SO glad to see the Whale heating system is still there however - it's like something from the 1980's and I'd have been gutted if it had been upgraded! 😂 Nah, I'll happily stick to my Basecamp 2 cheers!

    Thanks for your feedback, I do love the little Basecamp 2, and think it offers a great compromise of seating and a large double bed. The price rises are unfortunate, but standard across the industry now unfortunately. Haha love your comment about the Whale system, for all the marketing around it, it is a pretty basic system and the Whale water pumps have proven to be woefully unreliable in recent years. It’s a shame because I’d really like to support them as a British company, but the Truma system is better.

    Hi Cameron, Good to see you back. Really thorough review. I remember you talking about the original Sprite Cadet (which in a way was a very early Basecamp) I too like the new macho 3 model (great idea the day bed by the way) but I'm still not nuts on the storage. I am forever beggering up zips and I'd end up locked out of all my stuff!) 🙄

  • @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    Thanks Martin! This is quite a beast size-wise compared to the original Sprite Cadet! The drawback of the Basecamp range in general is the loss of storage under the seat bases. I conducted a survey on the Basecamp Owners Club once to see if owners actually moved the seats back to store bikes/sporting equipment and about two thirds of them said no! So I feel like there’s a gap in the market for a de-sporty version with conventional seat bases for extra storage.

    Very well presented , but almost £25 and a half K , be honest its just by far not worth that type of money ?

  • @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    Жыл бұрын

    Sadly that’s just what caravans cost these days. A conventional budget model from a British manufacturer is around £26-27k and the upper ranges are selling for around £30-33k and the top of the range models are now pushing £40k! So when everything is put into perspective, the Basecamp range is still one of the cheaper caravans out there.

    Great video. Love some of the design touches that go into he Basecamp vans, with they were as innovative with all their other ranges. Try something different on the traditional family comfy vans, kill the fake wood for a start, it’s 2022! 😂

    Excellent overview, great info, thanks for showing us around. Prior to seeing it I thought it was going to be a pointless addition to the range but that front sofa mode is really excellent and you get a proper mattress in bed mode. Could really do with a weight plate upgrade though, as assuming most have movers fitted, by the time it’s got bikes & kayaks, etc. in I suspect many will be overweight… thanks again for the excellent tour :)

    Enjoyed the review but I don’t understand the bed. On the other models there are side sofas that are made into a bed. On this it appears you fold your mattress in half and sit on that? Also the table is better at the rear on the other models. I don’t see the point of this?

    Tolle Infos ! Vielen Dank. Wahrscheinlich hätten wir den BC3 damals auch gekauft. Aber wir haben den BC4 im Winter 2021 zu einem guten Preis erstanden und sind immer noch verliebt. 5500 km durch Spanien, 14 Campingplätze, keine Probleme. 2 Personen und 2 kleine Hunde, Platz genug. Wir lassen das Bett ausgezogen, darunter niedrige Kisten für viel Gepäck( Olivenöl, Wein😅) Passend graue Bettwäsche, Kissen und Schutzdecke, da kann man auch prima tagsüber chillen. Darauf kommen während der Fahrt die Campingstühle und der Tisch. Hält super und rutscht nicht. Den grossen BC Tisch, den Vorhang und die Leiter/ Netz fürs Kinderbett haben wir zu Hause gelassen. Für Urlaub im Süden empfinde ich den BC 3 oder 4 praktisch. Wenn es oft regnet oder kalt ist, wäre mir das Umbauen zu umständlich. Der BC ist der kleine Star auf dem Campingplatz und in unserem Herzen. See you 2023 in Ligurien.

    The Basecamp 3 is a very welcome addition. If only Elddis would do similar and put out a version of the Xplore 304 as a 303, adding a side window and eliminating the upper bunk bed. They would be better to get rid of those rather feminine horrible flowery-like external graphic design and go for something that is more like what Kimberely Caravans have done (see Andrew Ditton's nice caravan). I digress... The front bed in the Basecamp 3 isn't quite right somehow. Positives are a thicker mattress and the ability to fold it up and out of the way. However, the mattress in its 'day mode' looks very, very odd. The backrest isn't supported by a frame and blocks out the lower part of the front window making it a faff to open and close. I can't help but feel that Swift would have been better to have kept the original design at the front of two side benches for those that want the flexibility to leave it as a bed or if travelling solo, to use the larger front dinette as a dinette and the rear smaller dinette as a bed. The rear dinette table looks to be too small to actually be useful for two people to have a meal. I still think that the Basecamp 2 is the better option. Whilst some liked the Basecamp 6, I thought it to be the pinnacle of a Basecamp design disaster and it seems that as Swift increase the number of berths in their Basecamps, the design get progressively worse with the number.

    You show a view under the van towards the end of the video, is that spaghetti pile of wiring standard or just for the show lighting? If the former then I don’t see it lasting vert long on our roads

  • @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    It will be just for the show lighting. There’s quite strict regulations about caravan road lighting in the UK. It’s advised to run the wiring internally wherever possible.

    It's good but they missed a trick with the side dinette. It needs a back cushion the length of the bunk so you can convert it to a sofa if you want, as well as a dinette. If I bought one I would get one made so I could do that. Also, why is everything now changed from orange to blue except the storage bags?

  • @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    @NotAnotherWhiteBox

    Жыл бұрын

    Completely agree with you on this and this was my criticism of the Basecamp 6. I guess you could convert it yourself by making the bunk up and having some scatter cushions behind. But Swift also didn’t market the front bed as a daybed, just stating that the double bed folds 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m guessing that they had a load of extra storage bags from the last production run 😂 I agree, it looks a bit at odds with the rest of the interior. Basecamp fans love their orange though, so maybe it’s a little nod to them.

    You’d mainly eat at the rear dinette. But the large table will go between the front bed and the kitchen when the bed is folded back into the day position.

    Basecamp 3 is a ridiculous concept, presumably aimed at the European market as some dealers here won’t even stock it because it fails in so many areas. The Basecamp 2 is a brilliant concept that works on every level. Lightweight but able to be up plated to 1300kg giving huge payload, a superb layout that gives light space and comfort, combined with top top quality equipment, having spent many many weeks in one over the last 3 years there is still nothing else that matches its attributes. It’s only Swifts indifferent assembly and poor QA that let them down. The Basecamp 4 was a compromise to appeal to families who didn’t want to use an awning for sleeping, it sacrifices many of the space and layout as vantages of the 2 berth and feels closed in and cramped in comparison to the 2, plus it has a hateful dinette a concept that belongs in a 1970s Wimpy not a living space! I expect it to last as long as the poorly conceived Basecamp 6 which was dropped after a year. Swift had the opportunity to make a Basecamp 2 grande using the 4 berth body shell but the layout of the 2 berth with extended bathroom with a separate shower cubicle and to have extra or full sized cupboards in a larger kitchen. Instead they have sacrificed all of the space for a fixed (ok folding) bed kept the horrid dinette to make a poorly functioning 2 berth but called it a 3!

    Couldn't agree more that a BC2 grande would be a brilliant idea. It's exactly what I've been holding out for. Swift are really missing a trick here. Fitting out a BC4 but with the BC2 layout with a decent shower would be such a good option
