Michael Lee is finally FINALLY getting the recognition he deserves in Korea. Chris in Miss Saigon, Jesus Christ Superstar, Hedwig, Frank n Furter in Rocky Horror, and now Nostradamus in Something Rotten. Hope he comes back to America to perform again soon!!

Saw this in London two days ago and if was incredible! Honestly don't understand why it hasn't had more success. Really needs a longer run at a bigger theatre over here

He is so under rated!!!! He should have more work in the US.

this is so fucking good! witty, fun, and unrelentingly sharp. i hope allegiance gets the success it so richly deserves. under their watch, the atrocities committed by this country against japanese citizens will never be forgotten.

tiffany aching School of Rock of course would get a nomination (Andrew Lloyd Webber duh) but this was so good! This was definitely better then She Loves Me and Bright Star... They didn't even nominate the actors .__. I'M SO PISSED AT TONYS

Ahmet R YILDIRIM i honestly don't like webber's work much aside from phantom of the opera, and even that is a sort of guilty pleasure type of deal... i just don't think his work on school of rock deserves an award, especially in comparison with all the other amazing shows that are eligible for the tonys this year.

Lea Salonga is a total performer i must say. She can sing, act, dance and all. What else do you need? Plus she's got BEAUTY and the BRAIN. Sense of humor, yep she has it. All in one.

THANK YOU! This looks so good, and is such a great subject for a musical, and an important, shameful part of US history. Seems like an excellent cast. Ms. Salonga and some of the others don't really look all that Japanese, but I"m always happy to do that old 'suspension of disbelief,' when things are made to work for me. (And, please, let's not get into a gazillionth~in my life, anyway~argument about casting, race, nationality, ethnicity, orientation, "non-traditional," "color-blind," absolutely perfectly realistic *in a freaking musical!*, etc., etc., and so forth!) Thank you George Takei! (Come to think of it, I don't even remember who the songwriters are; time to read up on it.)

LOL @ masterpiece. The problem with the song and most if not all the songs in Allegiance is the music sounds completely derivative of every Broadway show tune before it, nothing about this particular piece stands out in any meaningful way, unless of course you're unfamiliar with over a century of Broadway scores. And it stands out more given the subject matter and the Japanese American experience it's trying to express, but fails pretty bad in doing so.

God this song is perfection. It's funny and clever and fun but also absolutely biting and sarcastic and just under the surface there's so much anger despite the fact that they're having fun with it. This was the song that made me really want to see this show, and I still occasionally just think about what a good song it is.

i hope good culturally relevant musicals like this make a comeback to society

Beautiful performance.

It's a play anyone would enjoy. I saw it this past Sat eve. just wonderful throughout with ingenious prop work, teriffic casting and really good music. the vocals were god and tight throughout though a few cueues were off kilter. It's possible the cast couldn't hear the orchestra at times. it was nice they projected up to the top balconies as well. Paying attention to that is sure to bring great success. one could well tell that George Takei put his emotional life into this and the feeling is he transplanted those bitter sweet roots into this play. Congrats to all the cast and crew who made this so exciting. I just loved it.

It's on Broadway right now and is going to close in a few months. There may be more revisions afterwards but it's done, I would think if they already opened on Broadway

Somehow this song reminds me of Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. Weird.

I think this was the Old Globe production, the costumes(esp Michael K Lee's) is different-- I also look at who's playing the Father(not in this number) as it was a different actor at the Old Globe than on Broadway

berisj1 This was from the Broadway Production, as part of the performances Allegiance offered to the media and press people as a "First Look" to the musical. Michael's outfit from the Old Globe is kind of purple, or something close. Yes, you were right, the Father in Old Globe production is not the same as the Father in Broadway. Aside from the father, there are quite a few characteres from the Old Globe production that did not reprise their roles in Broadway the actors playing Mike Masaoka and Hannah's , for example.

@@ckci6493 I really loved Katie as Hannah, she cracked me up with her humor around the "I Oughta Go" part, and then dancing with that coat stand and got caught by Sammy. Lmao! But I also wonder how Ali did with her version of the character. I'd pay big money to see a filmed version of the Old Globe production.
