    Thanks for the review. I bought my 9'"6 with a Penn Fisher 4500 after watching this review. I love it. Cast as almost as far as my 12' Ugly with Abu 7000 no line leveler. Just ordered the 10'6" with a Diawa BG 4500. Can't wait to go plugin in the Padre Island National Sea Shore(PINS).

    @@minicopilot1I can't seem to decide between these two rods. I'll be casting 5/8 oz up to 2 1/4. In your opinion, which of these rods can cast lighter lures better?

    Yovani Cruz Take a look at the St. Croix Mojo Surf series of rods. They're a bit more money that the Airwave Elite, but they're definitely a good product. They come in numerous sizes, though you get some options in the 9' and 10' 6" spinning rods. The 9' offers a 3/4 - 4, as well as a 1 - 4 rating. The 10' 6" also comes in 3/4 - 4, but the heavier model is rated 2 - 6. The 3/4 - 4 rods have a much softer tip. Those are the ones I purchased, and I'm quite happy with them.

    I have a Mojo and am selling it and purchasing an airwave. It may be because I purchased the 9ft 1-4, but I hate the way it feels, too heavy for sp minnows, 1oz bucktails, etc (no sensitivity) but just falls apart with anything over about 2.5-3oz- just mush. I fished it 93 days (>500hours) last year and can't wait to get rid of the thing. Going with the MH 10' 6" model airwave, held it at a local show, very nice rod should be perfect for my needs. the 11' 4" will be added to the arsenal as well for inlet bucktail, big eels, etc.

    Great video, watched some years ago when was planning to buy one of these rods. Now I am definitelly getting one... but now I see thery put out a new rod series, the SaltX Surf. Do you know how they compare? I see the newer - SaltX Surf - have maybe better components - reel seat, guides - in the SaltX, maybe the blank is different (better?) too. I haven't found any website that compare them side by side son don't really know real differences. I see the price is about $80-100 for comparable models. Something I don't like is that in some websites they describe the features, they mention the rod weigth for the Airwave Elite but not for the SaltX, and you know weigth is important when you are casting for a long time. If we ignore the price difference, do you have any advice, any inclination for any of them? I would say blank difference is most imprtant for me... but don't really know how they compare. Thanks for your advice!

    Do you think this rod can be used in Hawaii for plugging light plugs and poppers (2/3.5 ounce lures) for Ulua or GT (Giant Trevally) about 10-15 pounds?

  • @mistermatsuda

    @mistermatsuda

    6 жыл бұрын

    Too soft. Go with a St. Croix Mojo 9' 1-4 oz. with at least a 6K Shimano Gosa or Spheros SW. That rod is stiff. You'll land some GTs with the Tsunami as long as the site doesn't have a lot structure. Usually GTs like structure. Even that setup is tough if you hook a large one.

    mistermatsuda you from Hawaii? But yah that’s what I was thinking but I’m planning on buying a light plugging set up for smaller papio from shore and a heavier setup for some big boys of the ledges at kaena point. Maybe like a tiralejo and a twin power still up in the air tho

  • @mistermatsuda

    @mistermatsuda

    I'm born and raised on Oahu. Tiralejo is good. But small papio from shore doesn't entail 2-3.5 oz. lures my man. For that, just go with a med. heavy steelhead rod 3/4 - 1 oz. lead or lure.

    The guides on these rods are low budget Fuji . The airwave elite rods do perform well in wind on casting. I am totally dissatisfied with the casting distance on the 9' 6'' and 10'6'' it's most likely the guide ring material . I called the Tsunami Company they told me to sell them. The new salt X rod uses better guides it may cast better . Do not buy the airwave elite !!! Never go with cheap guides . The Surfcaster Journal needed to test these rods for casting distance in a strong side winds and wind in face. then give a review.

    Revised guides do not perform well under high wind conditions stop testing rods under no wind with conditions
