@@thomasgorecki1321 I know what you're saying, but that's why it's so hard to adapt in depth Sci Fi into a few hours of film. There's a universe, thousand of years of history and endless characters in these books - how can anyone faithfully put that on screen AND make it entertaining for the masses (not just the sci fi die hards)? This is why I prefer the HBO style series as they can spend much more time world building over 10, 20 or more hours of screen time as they can pepper it in to the more "entertaining" storylines. Unfortunately, the most recent series released have all been garbage, but that's for different reasons.

It's pretty obvious that we aren't getting the dinner party (which is a massive shame, imo) and we're done with Yueh. Part 2 is about the desert, I think. The picture of Feyd Rautha that we saw appears to be the moment he's about to enter the gladiator arena. He has two blades inbis hands: a white one in his left, and a longer black one in his right. Without consulting my copy of 'Dune', and going on ( a acknowledged frequently faulty) memory, the shorter white blade was supposed to be poisoned, and the black, clean, but Feyd had had the supposedly 'pure' black blade poisoned for this particular fight. That in itself tells us considerably of what we need to know about him!

I think the fact that the first film failed to lay down the conceptual framework of the series is a bit of a red flag. The only reason I knew what was going on was because I read the book, but my girlfriend, who is usually way smarter than I am, had no bloody clue what was going on. She thought it was beautifully shot and scored, but she came away completely alienated and confused. If he can cram all that philosophy and world-building into part 2, great... but I'm dubious. We'll see. I think DV is one of the best modern film makers out there. But as a huge dune and DV fan, his adaptation is my least favourite film of his.

Bit confused as Denis said there's no time jump, but surely the pic of Brolin as Gurney suggests otherwise as he had short hair in Dune P1 and the images show him in VF having longer hair in Dune P2. So Maybe the time jump of the 2 years in the book happens midway in the film or it's disregarded and so is the LA and L(2)A plotlines? Also glad to see we will see Butler's Feyd-Rautha fighting in the arena as like when he is introduced to the reader and Lady Margot's POV.

I think the people that didn’t like Dune 1 will indeed love it after seeing Dune 2 and will see how both of them together make 1 complete movie just like Kill Bill Vol 1&2 makes 1 movie. That’s my theory. After Dune 2 it will get the hype and respect it deserves and will become a massive hit. Then we will get Dune Messiah which would be just absolutely bonkers.
