Modest Mouse - Dashboard
Missed the Boat is a strong cut you’d probably dig.

Definately XTC
Please listen to more Modest Mouse! There are other songs that are weirder, and heavier, but also others that are a little more normal in certain ways, and also lighter sounding. I highly suggest my first intro to them back in the late 90s... "Heart Cooks Brain". Also "Out of Gas", "Other People's Lives", and "Never Ending Math Equation". Please also check out XTC and Pavement.
Your take on 'Ocean Breathes Salty' would be really interesting given your background!
Love the creative video and the song. This came out in 2004 followed soon after by Oceans Breathes Salty with another unusual video. I'm a 60's and 70's guy but you know what I enjoyed the diversity of this group
Hadn't heard this before. Cool, crazy video. The singer reminds me a little of David Byrne (the guy from Talking Heads). MM has always had a small but loyal group of fans.

You're right, the whole song has a bit of a talking heads feel.

Frank Black from the Pixies is a strong vocal influence as well.
Really love these guys, this album is soooo good and it was a very different sound at the time...♡
You referenced XTC as one of their influences, their song "Dear God" is definitely worth checking out. A song I heard long ago, and have never forgotten.

XTC is a huge door to open! I know a lot of people recommend Dear God first but I frankly don't feel it represents their best work on all levels. Mayor of Simpleton, Senses Working Overtime, Love on a Farmboy's Wages, Summer's Cauldron, Greenman....
The guitar riff is so addicting🎸
You should definitely check out some more Modest Mouse. They are like a great bar band with some melancholy themes. Check out LITTLE MOTEL, THE WORLD AT LARGE, and FIRE IT UP. I would love to see your reactions.
One my top 20 songs best song
You should check out "King Rat" by them too, with the music video.
Dashboard from Modest Mouse has always been my favorite
Hi, when this song came out, all I could think of was the tv mini-series of Steven king's 'IT' ( movie wasn't out then). So I instantly thought of Death we'll all float on..like ' it' talking about the dead.." they all float" and the song's video confirmed that by the slaughter of the sheep then saying.."even if we are gone" we all float on ..have a good day don't worry bout the crap, try to be happy cause we'll all eventually die or float on. But that's just my take on the song. Damn catchy, upbeat tune but still makes me cry.
The Shins, please. New Slang, Phantom Limb, Sea Legs, Pink Bullets.....
RIP Miss Cleo
I'm always looking for new modest mouse reactions. My favorite band by far. It would be so cool if you listened to more of them. This was a good video
Nice profound message
They typically get more lyrically involved than this one. I don't know a ton of their music but everything else I have heard is good 'The fruit that ate itself' 'Truckers Atlas' 'Life Life Weeds' would all give you something to think about.
I cannot believe this is 30 years ago.
This always seemed like music for a pub imagine this and change the music video all over in the House of Pain - Jump Around music video Irish pub
Great guitar work by the legendary Johnny Marr of the Smiths
Dashboard is another to check out. Johnny Marr on guitar.
I like their song "3rd Planet".
Great reaction. Modest mouse had some good stuff mostly the earlier stuff, I can’t think of any song titles.
Nice enough song for me to have bought the 7" single to add to my vinyl collection.
Again, never even heard of this group. But Daniel gets a like.
Hey Dicon, thanks for this video. What a cool song! Dont think less of me please but, King Rat video directed by literally the one and only Joker. Well you know you know it went all wrong
You’d like Bury Me With It, too if you haven’t already heard it. It’s a vibe.
Oooooooooh yaaaaaaaa. First. Heeeere weeee goooooo!!!! Bring it on, here we are, win or lose, win or lose Win or lose, win or lose, win or lose, win or lose I can’t say
Careful dude, you almost smiled at this one
I forgot how uniquely fun this song is. Arguably one of the best post-grunge PNW bands.
Hey Daniel, maybe get in on the ground floor of The Flaming Lips vying to become the first band to pay on the International Space Station... I'd suggest either "Fight Test" or "Do You Realize?"
Missed the Boat gets my vote. Great song and I think YOU will like it!
Great song, great choice!
Parting of the Sensory would be great for you to interpret
Love Modest Mouse! Check out “Ocean Breathes Salty” and “Dashboard”.
Best outside the norm reaction of 2021.
Dashboard is another good shout. I feel it has similar themes to this one in that it could have been worse. Also the video is very dramatic, old fisherman's tale I think you may enjoy. Also pretty much the whole of the album good news for people who love bad news, is great. Other good songs are gravity rides everything and missed the boat.. they have a great mix of different songs. A good band to do some exploring of.
Kopi mana kopi.... Mantaps..........
I opt to think that they were just getting sheared, the sheep.👍
Great band.......l might have started with gravity or paper thin walls
This is for me when things were starting to get downhill for MM. Anything from earlier albums is fire, their greatest tracks are: Talking shit about pretty sunset Teeth like gods shoeshine Styrofoam Boots/It’s all nice on ice The Stars are projectors Other people’s lives
The Bo Burnham song about repetition springs to mind.
Malam... Salam kenal dari Tangerang indonesia.... Mantaps.... Dan sukses selalu channepnya...
Fastball The Way.
Watch "King Rat" MV , good stuff peace!
Check out "The Ground Walks, with Time in a Box" by Modest Mouse. This song is a trip! I think you'll love it.I also think it would make a great song on a Halloween Playlist. It's upbeat but creepy. And the video is really weird, in a good way. Check it out!
KT Tunstall if you've never heard of her. Crazy if you haven't!

Yes. The song Black Horse and the Cherry Tree put her on the map for me 15 years ago or so. She’s terrific.
Why do I picture Robin Williams?
Their earlier stuff was far different, and gloomier, less 'pop'-y but glad they had a hit. I got into these guys at the same time as I first heard The Flaming Lips and Neutral Milk Hotel. Johnny Marr of The Smiths played with these guys for years. Love how meet meet and conspire to make great music. My best as ever Daniel.
For me Jeremiah green is the best thing about modest mouse, and him not being on this album will always be a sore spot.
Never was too keen on Modest Mouse. This was quite a 'hit' in indie circles. But maybe check out the band SPOON sooner or later. Oh yeah and XTC, definitely, but start with their earlier stuff.
