We have arrived to Lake Atitlan and will be spending a week in the town of San Pedro La laguna. With all of its beauty, it is still not exactly what we were expecting...

The tuk tuks do charge more for extra people and for luggage. Another up charge is if you’re going to an outlying area where they may not get a returning customer. Even so, that was for sure excessive if you weren’t leaving San Pedro. Also, not many people seem to be aware you can take a shuttle directly to San Pedro from Antigua for the same price as Antigua to Pana, without needing to add on the lancha.

Lake Atitlan is a beautiful place. Sadly I had the same impression you guys had. I cut my stay short and decided to leave after less than 48 hours of arriving in San Juan. Everywhere I went felt like a tourist trap, everything was overpriced, food was served in small portions at europeans prices, tuc tuc drivers trying to take advantange of tourists, bad service at restaurants, no running water for hours thus no restrooms at cafes where they charge $5 for a latte, 5% added to bills paid with CC, 10% compulsory tip , In general the local atittude towards tourist is not what I expected . I would not visit again. I regreted using 2 nights of my vacation in the Lake instead of going other places in Guatemala.

Boker tov, manish-ma? Ma-shlomehk👱‍♀️/ma-shlomkha👱‍♂️? Ani hakol beseder.... Good morning guys. Number one, God bless you both and may God continue to bless your talent by making more wonderful videos about Guatemala; we, enjoy watching them. Number two, your videos are uplifting, educational, and entertaining to say the least. They are absolutely inspiring, refreshing, and fill with meaningful things (they touches the heart and the soul [nostalgia]). Well, you had proposed a question in reference to the connection or history between Guatemala 🇬🇹 and Israel 🇮🇱. Allow me to articulate an answer to your question from the perspectives of both documented world history and faith (Biblical prophecy). Guatemala 🇬🇹 and Israel 🇮🇱 have had strong ties since Israel's creation going back to 1946. On November 29th, 1947 Israel became an official member of the U.N. A few months later on May 14th, 1948 she was rebirth as a Nation fighting for it's survival amongst 5 attaching Arab Nations and it's independence from European control (England). On both occasion Guatemala supported Israel and was the strongest advocate on behalf of the Jewish Nation. In 1946 Guatemalan U.N. Embassador Dr. Jorge Garcia Granados became in charged and the leader of the United Nation Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP). He lead the fight for this great human cause to help a suffering people (after 2000 years of absence) to return back to their homeland (The Promised Land [Eretz Yisrael]) that they righteously belong. Although, the major powers of that time (England, United States, and the Arab Nations) were against this idea of a Jewish State. Guatemala stayed on course to fulfill Biblical prophecy. Guatemala tirelessly fought hard all the legal obstacles on it's way including Dr. Garcia Granados personally flying over to each individual Latin American country in order to advocate and convince them in favor of the United Nations initiative, proposition 181 which would legally allow the creation of the Jewish State (later on the name would be changed over to the State of Isrsel by David Ben Gurion). Israel has never forgotten who her real friends are. Since the beginning of this special friendship. Guatemala has continue to enjoy the fruits it's labor. Guatemala today, has most advance Israeli technology in modern medicine, agricultural science, aerodynamics, and the latest weaponry produced by Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Every time the IDF creates a new weapon. Guatemala it's usually the first benefactor to recieve it and test it. Israel even defended us against the United Kingdom during the early 1980s. This highly volatile conflict was due to the Belice-Guatemalan conflict for it's independence. England who supported Belice had demanded from Guatemala a complete and unconditional surrender within three weeks. Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin upon hearing the news told the United Kingdom that, "if England attempts to destroy Guatemala within three weeks. It would only take Israel three hours to destroy London". The English immediately ceased and deceased their intentions and quickly took their troops and Harriet's Squadrons back to England. Thanks to the Israeli intervention and tenacity nothing happened and the possible war between England and Guatemala was avoided. Dr. Jorge García Granados (21 April 1900 - 3 May 1961) was a politician and diplomat from Guatemala, a grandson[1]: p.17  of Miguel García Granados, the leader and philosopher of the liberal revolution in the 19th century. Guatemala's min. Dr. G. Granados leaving the president's house after presenting his credentials, Jerusalem Granados was the ambassador of his country to the United Nations and a member of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP). Granados cast the very first vote for the creation of the state of Israel and Guatemala became the first Latin American country to recognize Israel after the proclamation of the state.[2] At the time of the vote on the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine, Granados organized a lobby of South American countries to support the partition plan.[3] In 1956, Guatemala became the first country to open an embassy in Jerusalem, with Granados appointed as the first ambassador. The Israeli cities of Jerusalem and Ramat-Gan named streets to honor Granados. Garcia Granados wrote about his experience serving on the UNSCOP in his book, The Birth of Israel: The Drama as I Saw It. In the book, Granados describes his youth, his time in political exile from Guatemala during the reign of military dictatorships, the achievements of the Zionist movement during the British mandate on Palestine, and the events surrounding the creation of Israel. Genesis Chapter 12 verse 3 From the New Living Translation Bible. "3.) I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” בראשית יב:3 תרגום חי חדש 3 אברך את המברכים אותך ואקלל את המתנהגים אליך בבוז. כל המשפחות עלי אדמות יבורכו דרכך".

@@juliebuchanan5411 Hi Julie, thank you for taking an interest on learning about the longtime relationship Israel and Guatemala have had over the last seven decades. Let me share a few more details: There are city "street" signs 🛣🛣🛣 🛣 named after A.) Dr. Jorge Garcias Granados and B.) Guatemala in the cities of Jerusalem and Ramat-Gan (Ramalah). The entire Guatemalan military force uses Israeli made weapons. The Galil is an automatic riffle named after it's creator, Yisrael Galil Blashnikov who lived near the Galilean sea or sea of Galilee (Mar de Galilea). He also invented the Uzi submachine gun. The sidearm of choice is the famous "desert eagle" .45 Jericho 941F made by Israel Weapon Industries (IWI). The Gabriels are these rocket grenade shoulder launchers. Also, an Israeli masterpiece. The Arava planes 🛫 are these small battle tested quick/short take-off planes. These planes can land and take-off inside small soccer fields without any problems. The Tavor is another Israel made masterpiece. Guatemala was the first country to received these sophisticated weapons. The Guatemalan Police Force and the military uses them for their work. Of course, there are more Israeli made weapons Guatemala has in it's arsenal which I am not privilege to discuss but the above mentioned is public information.

I visited San Marcos La Laguna and they have New Age Centers that people attend, so there are many activities going on in these towns, it depends what you like. Regarding transportation it helps to consult your smart phone the distance from where you are as to where you are going, ask first how much they charge, if it is too much walk away and ask a local how much the fare should be.

The Israeli influence in Guatemala goes back a long time, in 1947 Jorge Garcia Granados who was a Guatemalan UN ambassador and a member of the United Nations Special Committee on Palestine composed of 11 non Global Power countries to help guarantee neutrality was created to resolve the long time dispute between Arabs and Jewish, he recommended the creation of two States one Jewish and one Arab to UN which lead to the State of Israel. There is a street in Israel that bares his last name "Granados St." and we're the only country with a "Jerusalem Capital of Israel St." Guatemala was the 2nd country to recognize Israel as a new nation after the US and the first country to open an embassy in Israel. There's been a very long land dispute between Guatemala and Belize dating back to when the British took over, in 1970 Guatemala sent troops to militarize the imaginary border between these two countries and the British responded by sending Harriet jets to 6 different location in Belize stating that it would be very easy to invade Guatemala and gave 3 weeks for the troops to retreat, Guatemala requested International Support Israel, Argentina and Taiwan sent aid, Israel replied that it would take them not 3 weeks but 3 hours to destroy the British invasion if it happen. If you visit Guatemala City they still exhibit one of the planes that Israel sent during this time. This goes deeper and the list goes on but I'm trying to make it short, I hope you kinda have an idea now why we love Israel, Shalom.

Hello!! Thank you so much for providing us this information 😊🇬🇹 We greatly appreciate it. I think we saw the plane you mentioned! Is it just out in the open near the airport on display?

  • @mygiboxatgmail

@@JourneywithJenandDrew Yes its near the airport, when I said this goes deeper you have to read a bit about history, the British controlled Palestine until Israel and opposed to Israel becoming independent, the final vote was 33 in favor, 13 against and 10 neutral you know where the British stood. Also Jorge Garcia Granados saw how the Juden were being waif and reflected exactly on things happening in our country at the time. He was kidnapped once and incarcerated another time for speaking against the oppressive state that had overthrown the previous one and sponsored by who else the CIA and the United Fruit Company who owned 42% of Guatemala land. True fact you can google it.

Question - did the allies smell like poop and were their animal poop everywhere? I have been here two days. At least now there are poop everywhere attracting flies and those flies are sitting on the food and everything. I feel like I am going to get Giardia! Also the smell of poop and motor vehicle exhaust is gross. It also very loud all night, with fireworks going on at any time during the day and night. This doesn't feel like a relaxing time at all! Not a good experience for me. Did you experience anything similar?

Yes - the tucs do pretty much rip you off if you are perceived to be a tourist .... Makes it hard for me to get home when I arrive by boat at Pana Dock .... They all know I live here - and they won't get 75Q from me for a tuc ride !!! ... so .... on the plus side - I'm blessed to live on the most beautiful lake in the world --- and I don't fear I'll be shot when going to the grocery store to buy milk ....

Locals are NOT annoying with tourists , they like them , the Town live and exist because the exchange of culture and People from Europe ,Canada and United States is the Reason all this Handicraft bussines , and the hotels and restaurants that are good for economy , we love Tourists and many decide stay and live there , like my Father , the influence of ISRAELI and JEWISH there is Big and is a Bless , because we Guatemalans Support ISRAEL since the Beggining of its Foundation again in 1948 , and we are together with USA the only two Countries that never fail to vote in Favor of ISRAEL in UNITED NATIONS . a very Important and corious fact is that SAN PEDRO LA LAGUNA is call among ARMY guys in ISRAEL The Little TEL AVIV FOR THE POPULARITY iN israel for this destination .

San Juan is just a few kilometers walk away and you will find a much more pleasant vibe. But the lake is so gorgeous. In many places in Central and South America the people and culture are so wonderful, the only downside is the influx of party oriented backpackers and bozo expats.

I got taken advantage of in the airport, I couldn’t get my luggage off the carousel and one of the employees helped me then he demanded $20 I was not happy. You just have to be prepared ahead of time and bring smaller bills and just say this all I have. In my case I only had $20 bills and no quetzales .

oh man, what do you expect from a Mayan community which sold his soul for making money by tourism?? San Pedro la Laguna is not even worth to spend 1 hour .... 40 years ago it was a perfect spot to see what a Mayan community looks like with a handfull of restaurants which offered local traditional food and so quiet that it was rather scaring in the night. Now it is a party town, noisy, full of drugs with a folkloric shell .... it turns my heart apart .............

Sam Pedro and San Marcos are terrible! I live in Guatemala City and we go to the lake every few weeks. We always avoid those villages because of everything you've shared here. The accommodation experiences I've had have been bad. There are way too many parties. The service at the restaurants is bad and it's no longer an authentic villages because a lot of foreigners live there now. It's sad. This is why we've decided to start a blog and a new KZread channel just about traveling in Guatemala. Everyone says to go to San Pedro and San Marcos and to do other things and I just find it to be bad advice. I think it's because they are travelers passing through and they haven't started in Guatemala long enough to understand the other options.
