Hey Ben, I'm the CEO of William Painter. Thanks for this great review! We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and experience on the purchase process and the product! We are ALWAYS improving the products and experience. The Hook that you have there is on the 13th iteration. It's pretty cool to see how you noticed the weight, the balance and the molding effects of the acetate. A few other things to note. The silver piece should not be out, so if you have an issue with that in the future we will happily replace the pair for free. Second, on the metallic lenses (the blue and red) you can easily wipe off the white logo with your fingernail if you don't like it there. Thanks again for being a great customer. We really do love our customers more than you could possibly imagine and will always do the right thing for you. Thanks again for sharing the experience.

Hey Matt!! Thanks for reaching out! Wow, I had no idea that one could use a fingernail to remove the logo from the metallic lens! Wish I would have known that before I returned the sunglasses. :/ Either way, the silver piece fell out again just after shooting the footage for this video. So I thought it was best to return the hooks and opted for a full return. In the end, I was still wavering on wether or not to keep the hooks and needed to make a choice. Thanks again for reaching out! Appreciate the comment and support!

Hi Matt. Great idea, but can they be done for prescription lenses and different frames or not. If they do then the taxpayer wins.

Hey @@tinasurplus1066! I know you addressed your comment to Matt but I thought I may be able to help clarify a few things. William Painter has a few customers who have put prescription lenses in their frames. I've seen a few photos and reviews on their website from customers who have had that done. I don't believe William Painter offer prescription lenses, but your local Optometrist should be able to do that. What I don't know is if William Painter will stand by their frames if prescription lenses are inserted into the frames. For that, you'd have to email customer service or wait to potentially hear back from Matt. Enjoy your day!

Very good and detailed review but I think that if you wanted to do a thorough, detailed review (which you did anyway) you should have used the “The Bottle opener option” and opened up a bottle. (I know these days they are not that necessary but still I would have liked to have seen you open up a bottle with them). I have purchased the sunglasses just recently and so I definitely am interested in the bottle opener option. I congratulate the company on making such a wonderful sunglasses. Take care, still a great, explanatory video though.

Hey Warwick! Thank you for the thorough feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to share it. Thinking back to when I shot the review, I seem to remember not having access to a non twist top bottle and not wanting to scuff up the sunglasses as I wasn't 100% sure if I was going to keep them. I do agree with you though, demonstrating the bottle opener would have added to my review especially for those, like yourself, who are intending to use that feature of the sunglasses. Do you use the bottle opener feature on the hooks a lot? Thanks again for sharing. Enjoy the day!

Hey Stuggy! Thanks for the comment. The blue tint WP glasses do well with fingerprints and dust. I think that’s due to how WP adds the blue tint the sunglasses. I’m not 100% sure but I believe the blue tint isn’t the top layer of the lens which is why it doesn’t pick up fingerprints. To be safe thought I’d write William Painter and ask them before ordering. Hope that helps!!

  • @BenGeldreich

Hey Stuggy! No the blue tint isn’t that dark. In most lighting situation you can still see your eyes. It was actually one of my only complaints about the WP sunglasses. I wanted them to be a tad darker as I do find myself squinting when it’s really bright out. Honestly I don’t think you’ll notice too much of a difference between the black and blue tinted hooks. Maybe slightly darker due to the tint. Rest assured it’s a very mild tint. Or at least was on the set I had abs reviewed. Hope that helps.

I love their hypocrisy. They disparage companies for making overpriced glasses, yet these are now $300. You can get a premium pair of brand name glasses for half that, and get a superior product. These are decent glasses, but I hated the hook frame style. Super uncomfortable. Their Hughes frames fit well. Overall, mid level sunglasses that are wildly overpriced.

I too found the Hooks a tad uncomfortable at first! The longer I wore them the more comfortable they got as the arms started to loosen up and mold to my face. That said I'm not a huge fan of the price increase, I got mine for under $200 during a WP promotion. I probably wouldn't have bought them or at least wouldn't have kept them had I paid full price

Hey Albino Viper! I thought the same thing and definitely don’t need a bottle opener on my sunglasses. However, my brother, who’s into micro breweries, informed me that a lot of beer companies are still using pop tops. Again, still don’t need one on my sunglasses, but I do believe bottle openers are still needed.I know William Painter makes a lot of other styles of sunglasses. The hooks are the models that happen to fit my face the bests.

So I decided to try out their warranty, I found out you have to pay a fee of $49. When paying over $200 that is ridiculous. Chalk it up as another rip-off. William Painter has a great return policy and so I had no issues getting a full refund. Out of curiosity how does one choice on purchasing sunglasses to review correspond with ones political views?
