During deer season in my hometown about one half of the guys in highschool had rifles in their pickup trucks. I always had a rifle or shot gun in mine. Most of the time I didn't lock the door or roll up the window. Times are very different know. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I remember TG&Y in Las Vegas, NV where I spent part of my time growing up. My Grandmother would not let me go for a walk in northern Arizona without my KT 22 my Dad gave me, she would say “ Son where’s your gun, you know we have them Mohave Rattlers ( neuro and hemotoxin). “ Next I had a Stevens .410 single shot and a Marlin .22LR bolt action eventually getting a S&W .357 Mag which eventually went to Arizona when visiting Grandma too. Thanks, mr. plowboysghost!

I sure enjoyed hearing that story, Mr. Plowboy. Yes, life was definitely easier back in the '70s, '80s and even early '90s in the Country Small-Town Life. Kids had guns and didn't even think of shooting each other. Carried knives too. Could play outside and far from home but we knew when we had to be back and we made sure we were there. When you're brought up to respect firearms and use them properly, you don't have problems. And yes, we all loved cars! Mustangs, Camaros, Trans Ams, Roadrunners and a lucky few even drove Corvettes. Lotta trucks and jeeps in the school parking lot too.

Enjoyed the video Plowboy. You know, we definitely had a good time growing up here in the Alabama country. My neighbor and I definitely done a lot of squirrel hunting in the woods around here when we was young teenagers. And we definitely hit the roads well before we had drivers license’s as well. Good Times. 👍

Those are fun stories to listen to an tell. Especially these days. My dad and my uncles started me shooting when i was big enough to hold the guns up by myself and hunting not long after. When i was 12, dad let me keep my bolt action .22 and my single shot 12g in my room and i could shoot them any time i wanted to as long as i could afford shells and i told him where i was going. At 14 i traded some lawn mowing money, some antler sheds and a western bowie knife for a lyman great plains caplock .54 muzzle loader and an Italian made .22 single action revolver. Didn't tell anyone about the revolver but i was shooting the heak out of it any time i had the chance. One day several months later i was out fishing with my dad and uncle when one of them disturbed a copperhead by swatting it with a fishing pole as it was slithering up onto a rock. It came right at them. They were both scrambling to get up and run when i pulled my revolver out of my pocket and thumbed off 2 quick shots one of which hit that copperhead right through the head. Dad looked at that snake writhing around then looked at me kinda shocked then said " good shooting, where'd you get that? Well, better reload. ". That was south east Kansas in the 90s. Thanks for the video. It reminded me of those good memories.

Why has the world and this country changed so much that I don’t recognize it. We took our hunting guns in our vehicle along to the school parking lot so we could get out to the happy hunting grounds as soon as school ended for the day. It was just what we all did. Teachers too. I think it’s when this country started removing God from America.

My childhood was similar brother, i lived what would have been a dream to you in East Texas. At 12 years of age i had two horses. One of them was very fast. And i got cut loose with a Winchester Model 94 and a Smith and Wesson 38 special. I had a saddle scabbard and a western style holster for the revolver. I rode many a mile and shot a lot of critters and camped out like John Wayne. Good story brother, we grew free.

Thanks for sharing, up north here in PA. 1st day of buck season schools were closed, and back in the 60s and 70's when I grew up my dad didn't hunt and didn't care much for guns either. But my grandfather was in the newspaper for harvesting a buck the 1st day of the season for 25 years in a row. 1st gun I got was a Winchester 410, age 11, then a few others followed, then a reloading press, and then a lead pot and a few molds for making bullets. I have since acquired quite a collection. I was driving tractors and bailing hay before i was old enough to drive, still have a motorcycle, and a convertible corvette in my garage! Take care!

I’m younger (25) my dad had a gun in our house but he wasn’t really all that into them at the time and I wasn’t all that interested until after he and my mom split up and mom took us back to Kentucky and I started hunting with my uncle and shooting with friends I had made. Even though most people my age are into the polymer wonder 9s and ars and I do like them and appreciate the utilitarian charm they have what really got me into guns were 1911s and 357 mag revolvers. My father ended up developing more interest after I did so now we bond over that and he recently gave me a old Winchester 308 his dad bought new in 1969 or 1970.

It was Sporterized with a gorgeous Tiger Maple stock, that will be the family gun that will get handed down. It was not till I was out of the Navy in my 20s that I bought my first gun, Ruger mark 2 4.75” barrel blued. I still have it.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. I bought a iver Johnson .22 revolver when I was 11 or 12 years old, probably my 3rd or 4th gun. That couldn't happen now. The country store sold shotgun shells and .22 shorts, longs or LR individually. Shorts were a penny each. I think 16 gauge #5s were 15 cents. Great video.

I was driving in Arkansas (grandparents that we visited every summer ) Gramps had a 60 Corvair and I was allowed to drive it on those rural gravel roads The sheriffs pulled me over one time and asked my name and they said " Art your grandpa?" I told em yes and they said be careful or some such. My gramps was a sorta big deal owning the only hardware store in Judsonia Arkansas and was well liked and respected. At one time he had a Winchester collection of over 100 really interesting guns including sequential serial numbers and a few Henrys

My dad and most of my cousins all hunted. I think every 12 year old had a 22. Out west shotguns weren’t that much of a thing here. Finding a family without guns or a 12 year old who didn’t have a 22 was rare. My first and only handgun for decades was a Colt SAA and we always kept a 30-30 in the truck. And rarely did anyone go to shooting ranges. Shooting ranges were open public lands and targets were coke cans. My first deer, my grandma was the proudest woman in town calling family to tell them I had got a deer. Your first deer was a big deal. Different times

He been using a mossberg 410 then moved up to a rem 1100 20. I have been getting him to shot 22 handgun for about a month. A heartige / a 22 - 45 conversion and last weekend my old 22 mag single 6 from 73 that my dad brought for my birth. He was good with that ruger. Well we had a big swamp rabbit come out in the edge of the hat field. It was at most 15 yds. I ask him if he wanted to giveit atry with it. He wasa little nervous. But he took his time. Put that 40gr fmj right in the head. His 7th rabbit for this year. He is so happy that Saturday he is going to help cook a meal that he got the meat for. I bought my first firearm in 1978 (Remington 870 Wingmaster) for duck/pheasant hunting. So I learned all my hunting skills/safety education when hunting with friends. Got my first revolver in 1982 (S&W 19-4, 6inch) and 1985 S&W 66-2 snub (still have that one) Im still old school with my 6 shooters and 30-30. Great story…👍🏻
