About Me
“The world needs more makers.” ~ RoyerX
Being from a family of creatives whose motto was to produce not to consume was etched into Kyle from a very early age and being educated at home gave him many opportunities to work hard at his own creative pursuits.
At eighteen, Kyle graduated high school and two weeks later received his Journeyman Smith Stamp and a rare double win of the George Peck Award and Bill Moran Award, “the 18-year-old prodigy”, “the blazing bladesmith” was what BLADE Magazine labeled him. Following that victory in November, 2009 BLADE Magazine ran a special five page spread “That Young and That Good”, the article went on to say “His ability to masterfully execute new designs, processes and artistic damascus patterns is remarkable. In spite of his young age, his fit/finish and attention to detail is representative of some of todays most known and sought after makers.” He was one of two to achieve Mastersmith by the age of twenty. His knives and his skills are highly sought after worldwide.
In the early years, if you weren’t at a knife show or a hammer-in, learning from the masters, information was hard to find, there was no online content and only a few books and videos, so it was a lot of trial and error in the knife shop. Kyle is passionate to teach makers his more than fourteen years of experience.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” We hope we can inspire you on your maker’s journey.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

Absolutely stunning! Another great series of another phenomenal build, the care and attention given to every small detail is mind blowing. I also like Josh's style where he leaves the 'brother banter' at the beginning or end of each scene in the videos, like telling you pulling the blade out of the ferric chloride should be slow and dramatic. You must be one of the humblest men on KZread, when you talk about a piece it’s almost like it was made by the bladesmithing pixies have made it. If it was me I’d be saying "LOOK WHAT I'VE DONE! YES I'VE DONE THIS! YES, ME, ME, ME!" And yes I would be shouting it. Just as good as the stiletto are the family unity and values that come through all your videos, it’s wonderful to see the love you all have for each other. Brilliant, loved every second.

Sometimes when I have finished a knife project I look around at all the similiar material i couldve used, even hold it up to my finished work and think wow This couldve been this. but this, meaning the similiar material doesnt even look like its the same material anymore. Then watching Kyle's finished work it hit me the finished project has a piece of him in it, like its been given a sense of spirit maybe even presense? I know kinda deep and cheesy but this is what i was thinking when I saw the finished stiletto. Kyle, I think every man knows that in life there are levels to any endeaver he strives to do with any bit of excellence. The level you are on must be very lonely, simply amazing work.

Incredible! Just incredible. You Sir, are a true artist! Watching you work is an absolute joy. I am not a blade smith and I have zero talent with metal but I find what you do fascinating. Also can I just say that the quality of cinematography is also off the charts. What an amazingly talented family. I wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Namaste 🙏🏻

That is without a doubt the most amazing knife I have ever seen. I had a friend who was a gunsmith and did all his bluing using the same chemical as you. He used a Baume gauge or hydrometer to measure the specific gravity (density) of his bluing vat while bringing it up to a set temperature and continued checking it throughout the bluing process until finished adding what he needed when he needed it. I don't remember the numbers he used, it was decades ago but if you get your salts the way you like them you could measure the S.G. and have a starting point to aim for each time until you perfected it.

As a fellow perfectionist, I must tip several hats of to you. The amount of painstaking detail and effort that you pour into every aspect really elevates the piece to another level. It's like you said with the balls; if you look for further away, you don't really notice what makes it stand out, but looking all of it up close, damn... It takes a really impressive piece to look that good on that much of a close up. Starting these videos, I wasn't really sold on the stiletto project as most of them look kinda goofy to me, but this, this is art. 10/10 would watch again.

I really enjoy your videos Kyle, its awesome to see someone of your skill level, work on their craft and show us all the steps they take and explain why things are done in certain ways. Kyle, you are a wizard. Your videos are amazing and all the aspects exhibited of the process are perfectly done. I wish you would make a photo booth and a stand for your knives for the final showing sequence. I would like to see a full view of the finished piece so the Damascus pattern can be observed. There is a tremendous build up to the reveal on all your projects, then at the end I feel like I want to see more of the result. You and your team do amazing work. Thanks for sharing.
