I think of each of the 3 top A Capella groups as having their own lane they preform in. Pentatonix as the classy group, Home Free as more Country stylistically, and Voice Play putting more "Theater" into their product. I like them all.

I love VoicePlay and all their songs! They actually released another Queen cover a week ago, “You’re my best friend”. Some other recommendations are “Carry on wayward son”, “Kiss”, “Tennesse whiskey” and their recent “My mother told me”. Eli, the bald guy, also has most of the lead in “Attention” and all the lead in “Waving through a window”.

Glad you enjoyed this medley so much! Earl (1st tenor, dude in the bed with the beard) left the group in mid-2020, but you'll find a lot of really good videos with him. If you want to hear more of Eli's rock tenor (bald dude, pronounced El-ee, not ee-lie), I would suggest their cover of Carry on Wayward Son. Also, since you're a fan of the bass singers, just an FYI that Geoff Castellucci has his own KZread channel. I'd really suggest his cover of Blackbird - it does a great job showing off both the low and high ends of his range.

daddy sang bass shows off both geoff and earl, another great video is their cover of Bang, ely does another great job in it, IMO ely is the most versatile singer in the group, geoff is amazing and layne is probably one of the best vocal percussionists in the business. i love adam but some of layne's sound effects are unbelievable, phantom of the opera, oogie boogie song and the little mermaid medley are 3 of his best i think

Voice Play, just like Pentatonix when they did their cover of BR, made no effort to sound like Freddie. What they did was to remind everyone, with their performance, just how good the original songs are. Well, that, and give great performances of their own, of course. You mentioned in the video that it gave you vibes of Earl giving birth? Lol. Since I didn't see anyone else mention it I'll give my impression of what was happening in the video. Earl was dying, probably in a coma, in the hospital. His boyfriend/husband was at his side giving him that necklace in hopes of giving him strength to get through and to stay with him in the world of the living. He, Earl, was faced with images. icons, representations of death and had to fight their pull in order to stay alive. Which he did. This was a fun reaction. Especially for a first reaction to a group I truly enjoy. Thank you for doing this one.

What I love about this video is the mythological story blended in. Freddie Mercury loved mythology, so he would be giddy at this. Earl (bearded tenor) is dying and in his final moment meets four gods of the Underworld. Layne (beatboxer in the fur coat) plays Cerberus, Greek sentinel of the underworld. He doesn't want to hurt Earl, he's just there with his sword (representing sharp teeth) to keep Earl's soul from escaping. J.None (Black baritone) plays Anubis, Egyptian god of death. He weighs Earl's heart against a feather on the Scales of Fate and sees he's worthy of the afterlife. Eli ("Ellie" bald rock tenor) play Yama Nirvana, Buddhist death god. His scepter is to whack any souls that try to escape. Geoff is the most interesting. "Baron" refers to the Haitian Voodoo god of death and resurrection. He doesn't necessarily want to keep Earl there, but to see if he wants to live strongly enough to bring him back. This is why the others are antagonistic against him: Anubis tosses background vocals his way that are a bit insulting, Yama flat out yells at the Baron and says they don't need him. When the Baron's cane comes down on Earl in Under Pressure, it actually is meant to protect him from the others trying to push his soul down into the Underworld. Earl must first fight Cerberus if he wants to escape, then Anubis and Yama. The Baron isn't there to fight, though. He stands his ground, sees Earl is serious about living, and starts to turn away, at which point he poofs away. Another fun mythology note: the Baron can be bought off with a gold medallion, which Earl's husband gives to him and he wear up until the end of the video. When he returns to life, the medallion is gone, payment to the Baron to resurrect him. As a mythology nerd and music major, this whole story was EPIC, and the lyrics work so well. I have to think that VoicePlay did research into all these religions to craft this story, and again... Freddie Mercury would be SO PROUD!

This particular video has a story line. Earl, the high tenor, is desperately ill in bed and the four lords of the Underworld are waiting for him to die. Geoff, the bass, is the top man in this foursome and they're arguing over his fate. At the end, Earl diminishes them and they go off into the nether world when he recovers. As a side note the gentleman who is at his bedside is his husband so it means a lot to all the big fans. They do a great job on all the old rock old rock: Carry on my Wayward, Son and Queen's You're My Best Friend. Geoff has his own channel where you can really see his bass. But it's not just bass, because in a lot of his videos he accompanies himself as 3 or 4 versions of himself. He sings singing all the background harmonies and he goes pretty high. As many others have stated, if you want to see Jeff's range a good choice is Oogie Boogie which is a whole lot of fun. It's from the Nightmare before Christmas after they have kidnapped Santa Claus. But for sheer artistry, their last two that I've seen have been My Mother Told Me (which is also featured in the assassin's creed game) as well as Hoist the Colours ( which is based on a song in the Pirates of the Caribbean part 3. Both are astoundingly well done they are beautiful and haunting. They are totally unlike anything I ever listen to usually but I am absolutely obsessed with them. I'll subscribe and I'm gonna watch to see if you continue to do Voice Play and Geoff as well as the other acapella groups. There is an enormous amount of talent between the 3 sets.

A quick history on this one. The one in the bed had a issue where he was in the hospital and from what I understand it was a close call. Geoff plays a Baron from voodoo is domain is life and death, while the others are 'death' gods. If you watch at the end, he wakes up without his medallion. Baron always takes something for his 'gift'. And the one that is beside him in the bed is his husband.

Don't worry, most VoicePlay fans will agree that they are all great (but Geoff is the most surprising for an unprepared listener). If you want to hear Earl's (by the way, his character wasn't giving birth, he was dying and defying death) most crystal clear tenor without strain, try their Can't Help Falling in Love With You. Also, Queen wise - they often collaborate on their Disney themed medleys with Rachel Potter - and you might want to check her own country styled cover of Somebody to Love.

Carry on my wayward son and My mother told me I think you would enjoy as well as Geoff's 16 Tonnes, Blackbird and High & Dry. Great Voiceplay medleys of Little Mermaid and Billie Eilish as well. Happy new subscriber. 🎧🎶

VoicePlay was on tour and Earl (the guy with the great tenor that you liked) had a burst appendix and it was touch and go. They used that episode to form the basis of Queen in 5. We have our patient who is dying, the other 4 are lords of the underworld and he had to be tested to see where he goes. The guy in the gold/black jacket is Anubis who comes with a scale and weighed the heart against a feather. If your heart is pure and lighter than the feather, you go on. The bald tenor is Eli (like jelly).

I feel there's a unique unintended irony in referring to Eli's voice as being akin to hair metal... But it is a really good quality and only one of many he can bring to the table. I will always recommend Oogie Boogie's Song by these guys if you really want to see what Geoff can do but I also really like their Moana and Little Mermaid medleys with Rachel Potter. Dammit, I've seen this a hundred times, this was my first VoicePlay video as well, because Queen. It wasn't until now that I heard the "bullets" at 11:30. VP is amazing with not just the musical skill, but the effort and detail they go through to tell the story. Other Acapella groups are just standing there on a pretty mountain singing Hallelujah, these guys are putting on a fucking Broadway play. XD I'm kind of surprised that you didn't recognize the song Play the Game, it is one of Queen's big hits. But also, I've said it before, VP will take the songs you love and put enough flavor on it so you can still recognize it but it's also your new favorite song.

To really hear Geoff's vocal range/talent listen to him covering Tennessee Ernie Ford's Sixteen Tons kzread.info/dash/bejne/mK6gtpppmrSZnNI.html Or the Beatles Blackbird kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYqio7OKXau5fLg.html A really good song to listen to, in order to hear Tim Foust's( Home Free) bass range, is Misty Mountains, which is a song from The Hobbit series kzread.info/dash/bejne/q5ZmqrRtZ9HWdbg.html

Mentioning Creed, have you listened to Alter Bridge? Basically Creed with out Scott. They brought in Myles Kennedy. What a band they are now. Try Blackbird live from Amsterdam. Myles is one of the best rock singers in a long time

If Queen's Somebody to love is your favorite you should check out Marc Martel and Queen Undercover's cover, it's amazing.

You should watch Acapop Kids' "Bohemian Rhapsody/Somebody To Love" mashup. Don't let their young ages fool you, this group that was started by Scott Hoying of Pentatonix is better than most adult A Capella groups.

I’ve been a fan of Pentatonix and Home Free since they were first on The Sing Off, but I’ve been waiting to hear this group. You have to listen to Pentatonod Bohemian Rhapsody! And patiently waiting for more Tom MacDonald!

Not my style. I’m not really an A Capella fan; I will say they do have beautiful voices. Not throwing shade at them. Pentatonix and Home Free are the only ones I enjoy.
