    To be clear, yes, there is a screen protector, I was just hesitant to remove it. Some of y'all let me know that I'm good to do so, so I'll do that in the intro of my next Syntakt video. :)

    You ever tried the Volca Drum or Drumbrute Impact? The Syntakt in other demos demonstrating the factory grooves sounds a lot like those drum machines, and in some grooves resembles Maschine expansions and JD-Xi factory grooves. I'm not the least bit interested in the Syntakt, but I like your channel. I've already got a couple of grooveboxes and a few keyboards that can make grooves just like the Syntakt, lol, more than enough already if I want glitchy, funky beats in that Drumbrute style (which I don't).

    The classic elektron screen protector plastic haha, take it off, it’s there just hard to peel. Scared the crap out of me peeling it off on my first digitakt. But have peeled it off a second digitakt and the digitone since. I take the corner of a credit card and slightly rub till it peels off. Clarity on the screen gets much better, you may still even have the plastic on your digitakt if you never peeled it off

    The screen protector is supposed to come off, but most people leave them on until they fall off, or start to bubble up and obscure the view. I’m sure the glass is fine underneath. The screen looks a lot better without the protector on, FWIW, and seems pretty scratch resistant in my experience.

    I'd keep the DT and try it with the Syntakt for a bit. They work great together. DT doesn't have as many tracks but it has some sound shaping features the syntakt doesnt and it's nice to isolate drum/groove from leads/melody.

    @GabeMillerMusic

    If you mean bigger, drum stick ready pads, I don't think that's really a thing (outside of the drum pad devices that Roland and Alesis make), but if you mean finger drumming, the MPC should serve you well. You can even connect bigger drum pads to an MPC, I think Freebeat did a video on that a while back.

    This is the most tempted I've been by any Elektron hardware, but the price is hard to justify when I already have an MPC and a couple analog synths/drummachines. For 200 more than the MPC One, is it really a good value? Akai could probably settle the question decisively with a software update to their step sequencer.

  • @ToyKeeper

    @ToyKeeper

    2 жыл бұрын

    Would like to hear Gabe's thoughts on that, but it'll take a few weeks or months of use to really compare things. It seems difficult to justify a Syntakt in a world where the MPC One exists.

  • @themainman3900

    @themainman3900

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not sure the mpc one is a great comparison since its focus is sampling and arranging whereas the syntakt is synthesis. There isn’t much overlap in terms of their capabilities and someone who is in the market for a sampler isn’t going to be considering the syntakt and vice versa with synthesis. I think a better comparison in terms of feature set would be the mc 707. All that being said I’m still not 100% sold on the sound pallet and price myself. It will be interesting to see if they add new “machines” or the ability to swap them out.

  • @sugarhigh4242

    @sugarhigh4242

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@themainman3900 you make good points but MPC has pretty good (digital) synthesis since the latest updates. The fact that it's got sampling on board just adds to the value. There's also overlap in their ability to sequence midi gear. I think Syntakt might have MPC beat as a performance instrument, but it's less equipped to produce a whole track.

  • @ToyKeeper

    @ToyKeeper

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@themainman3900 MPC and Force have a lot of synthesis capabilities... an entire set of drum synths, and several subtractive-style synths for tonal instruments. Also a ton of pretty decent effects which can be applied per drum, per track, and as sends/busses. And a bunch of configurable performance controls which can be played live or recorded as automation. Akai makes it easy to create entire songs without touching a single sample. The main thing Elektron's gear does that Akai currently doesn't ... is algorithmic sequencing. Like, trig conditions and randomness -- tools to make repeating patterns less repetitive. Personally though, I've never much liked that sort of thing, because it feels like a band-aid for a deeper issue: Elektron's design and workflow push people very hard to make short loops... and that's exactly what I want to avoid in my music.

    I had knowledge of both the company and the specific product going in. I watched multiple videos covering the Syntakt, and like I mentioned in the video, I've used both the Digitakt and Model:Cycles quite a bit. I do like to do some figuring out on the fly for these videos though, because it gives the consumer an idea of what that learning and discovery process is like (what comes easily, what might be frustrating, etc). I referred to tutorials for a few areas where I got stuck, and I restricted myself to giving opinions on stuff I for sure understood. For the screen protector thing, I even mentioned that it was present, just that I was scared to take it off. I got my Digitakt secondhand, so that's why I wasn't 100% sure.
