You ask for suggestions .... I am in my 70's, bought our retirement home while in our early 50's. "I" was overzealous in planting and creating shrubs and flower beds. "I" created a lot of maintenance and problems. Stay simple. Get your skirting up as soon as possible, those snakes are looking for a cool, dry place to nest. Be sure and install small ventilation fans in your skirting, at least two, one blowing in and one drawing out. These are not costly and will keep mold and mildew out, also help keep your house cool in the summer (heat rises). Do not plant anything that is HANGING OVER your house or obstructing access to it. Alway be able to walk completely around you home, in case of plumbing, rodent problems, (you want easy access for any repairs and maintenance. THE OLDER YOU GET, THE MORE IMPORTANT THIS BECOMES. Watch how the water runs and where does it pool up when it rains. Create small water catchment area where it pools and drainage to help the water run to these areas. You can have multiple catchments for dry seasons. You can plant small vegetable gardens close to these areas, also your wildlife will thank you.

Great advise
May I suggest you lay down a cement pad to put your tiny home on? Because where it is now is slightly sloped. And when it rains heavily, the sand/dirt will wash away. Then your park model will shift, move & become unlevel. Just a thought.
You have such a pretty smile
You're loving life! Here's a tip. When you're assembling most things like those stairs. If you leave all the bolts and nuts a little loose till the last one. You will be able to line everything up. Then you can tighten them all after assembly 👍

Good tip!
Circle drive, plastic down and mulch. Trim the tree, put a bench. Some plants that deter snakes, deer, etc. for now throw mothballs around.
Plus, you have that dog nobody’s going to mess with you guys
Talking to my boys about purchasing land for homestead, they are in.

Your so lucky you have horses for neighbors!!!
Go buy some flat pavers to set stairs on and make a small landing to help keep dirt and snakes visible. Crushed oyster shells around the house will help build a barrier from snakes.
Suggest patio blocks under those stairs to reduce sinking if it rains and increase stability.

Looks good guys…
Leave that central grassy area alone for the time being. Live with the space for a bit. You have enough on your plate!

Fire pit? With great seating of course.......hidden🎉
Love it all! Your dream come true is my dream in a few years. I will be following closely. Best regards. ✨️
I live in the Tucson area..lots of snakes here too. There are snake training classes for dogs. My pup did it and it has been great. She alerts me but does not get too close. You might check to see if it is available there.

That is awesome!
As you are living there and making noise you might chase the snake a little father from your home because they do not want to be around you either. But i would be real careful even going in and out of your home because the snakes might go under your house to hide in shade
I heard Moth balls work well keeping snakes away.

Also, Mothballs will repel mice. I use them in my house crawl space.
I think you should leave the center area just with some bushes and really pretty low flowers on around it
I would build a fire pit area and Pond in the circle. I recommend that you Get yourself a good Snake Stick / Snake Tongs to carry with you while walking around. Oh I think it's called a cowboy gate latch.

LOVE GRASS
These two videos that I watch for really nice I watched them bring in your tiny home and set it up. I just forgot to comment on that video cuz it pops straight to the next one on the next one I was watching you guys all your husband should I say take down the green tape off of the Windows of the tiny home and you said it took 3 hours and you said it probably wouldn't have took that long if you would have did it soon as they delivered it. The tiny home is so adorable I know you guys are going to fix that property up so nice when you guys put something down to pay the ground I will put something down that way you won't have to keep doing it every year like sometime the Rocks they're good but sometimes the rain washes them away so maybe you can think of something different something better or maybe the Rocks is what you want but anyway I'm here to be watching I love this channel already let me go on to the third video looks like another one has popped up just saying.❤🦋💙💞
I love it!!! So beautiful

I am excited for you,i can not wait to see what you do in the yard. Just so you know, you can by stuff called "snake be gone" it does work. My sister uses it around her home and no more snakes EVER, but she does not have a dog. I do not know if it would be safe for him.

Keep pluggin ya'll you doin good. It takes a long time, but when that day comes where all that work starts paying off you will be glad you did it. Homesteading is a job that never really ends but you do have milestones where you can be happy with reaching your goals. A donkey will help keep them snakes down. And goats will take care of the grass lol I thought a pond and waterfall feature would be nice for the center part of the circular drive but with the rattlesnakes probably not a good idea. Rattlesnakes like rocks so be extra careful in your rock pile areas. Im rooting for ya'll
But I couldn’t figure out exactly where you were with all the trees in Southern California. There’s not much vacant land. It looked like yours in Southern California so I like the looks of it would even be better if it wasn’t in Southern California or California, but that was your choice and that’s OK. I chose to move to Arizona 92 and that was the best thing I ever did. However, along the Colorado River area, everybody loves to come here to play in the river in the lake. Snowbird just come in all the snowbirds decided to stay so it’s kind of growing now there’s no place to live so I live kinda like California.
Diffently a cazebo
When you say make a list of everything that’s broken that’s kind of scary, they don’t look at this before they leave the property
@7sigmaoff-grid

List is made of damages occurred during transport.
Plant native flowers, that are drought tolerant, and will repel wildlife, and attract pollinators. Forget about grass, unless it is a native species. I am a California native, of seventy-four years, but from Northern California. I love what y'all are doing. Your home is beautiful, and so is your property. Remember, gardening is always an experiment. Don't fret over the small stuff, and have fun. You are a beautiful couple! Take care, and God bless!

Thank you very much for the wisdom and inspiration…really appreciate it.
Are you doing an awesome job? Keep up the good work. Surprised you stayed in California. I’m glad I left. Praise the Lord. However there’s no perfect place to live so if it works for you, that is the thing that is perfect. However, I’m going to say, be careful on your stairs because I knew somebody stepped out of their trailer and the snake was under the stairs, so just use a little caution cause they could be under the stairs. I’m not saying this to you but just use a little caution. You got a lot to do but so far looks pretty good.
I would till and sod the island, add a hanging tree swing, and outline it with a. 2 foot wildflower bed. Barn cats will keep snakes at bay, Sod around the house as much as possible. Solid skirting is recommended to keep out pests.

Good advice… Thank you !
You do have to worry about being safe ,my parents bought 22arces up north in the back if 100 acres and there tiny home got broke into and every thing was taken and damaged.
For best weed control and low maintenance I would do desert landscaping. Not sure how big property is or state but less maintenance as we age the better.
Hi, Congratulations I am really happy for both of you. I am also interested in buying a land. When I saw your video I loved the area and surroundings. You mentioned it’s in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains. I tried to find out where exactly. Can you provide me with the name of the area and is it on high elevation? Can you please provide me with the website where you bought the land from?Thank you in advance
Just a suggestion, but believe your dog can be given a shot by your vet to protect him ahead of time if he does happen to get bitten by a rattlesnake. I have friends who have their dogs given this shot every spring. So happy to follow you on this adventure.
We use these around our property in Australia. Not sure if they can help you
a pond and seating area
May I suggest that you keep Benedryl close by just in case your pup does get bitten - - that can save his life - although still needs to be seen immediately by vet.
