First day at San Diego State University 1987
August 31, 1987
"Oh, the humanity. If you don't like crowds, this is not the place for you."
Getting a higher education at SDSU was in high demand in 1987. The first day of classes saw students in search of spots to park and classes to crash.
News 8's Jody Hammond reported that nearly 35,000 students were enrolled that fall with 5,400 classes offered each week.

This was my first day of college as a freshman at SDSU. This is a really special flashback! Thank you for sharing!
Good times! I was a freshman at SDSU in 1989. I never understood the parking drama. I parked out on the east side of College Blvd down by the freeway and hiked in. No need to hunt for a spot. "Park and Hike". Back then they issued bumper stickers as parking permits. By the time I graduated, I had a beautiful collection of permits covering my bumper. Oh, and the joy of crashing classes. You needed a strategy for evaluating the chances of crashing. I only needed to crash a handful of general education classes and succeeded every time I tried. Thanks for the flashback.

Smart
2021, parking is always full, classes have long waitlists, some things never change lol
That was my second year at SDSU. I remember the circus tent at the end of the main quad. I was technically a Junior but told the prof "I'm a senior and I need this class to graduate" like everyone else .

Gotta love the 80's! I miss those days!
Interesting video! I did not know SDSU was so popular back in 80s.

It was and is the largest of the Cal State system.
Wonder where they are now, Monday will be my first day on campus after a whole year online so it'll be a fun new experience
Nothing has changed lol
I would’ve gone here this year also if I had gone the year I graduated from high school… lol… but I had to go to Junior College first. I transferred in here later. 😁👍🏻 crashing classes - what a pain in the ass!! I remember that. 😁
