Nothing that a little prep and paint can't fix. Honestly, they don't make automobiles like they used to. I know it sound cliche, but it's true. My dad had a '71 sedan Deville that in the beginning I was embarrassed to be seen in. Once I got my license and drove it, it became my favorite car to drive. My friends also loved riding in it, and they didn't fight for shotgun as there was almost as much room in the rear as there was in the front. Not a bad seat in these cars and with all the windows down it was even better. Good memories!

Thank you for the kind words and sharing your wonderful memories. I have made some improvements since the 2021 video you watched. You should see my 2024. The car is in better shape now than it was then. Have a good weekend and thanks for stopping by.

When I was 7 years old, and my family lived in LA, the neighbors 2 doors down had a gold 1971 Coupe DeVille. I thought that car was the nicest thing I ever saw. I had always wanted one, but finding one in good condition was a must. I finally accomplished my goal. 71-72-73, I all consider close enough to each other. Keep an eye on CL marketplace. These do come up from time to time. That's where I found mine.

Fine looking car. As a teenager I had my grandfather's Coupe DeVille back in the late 70s and was probably the only kid that wore a seat belt back then, even the shoulder belt. It most likely saved my life one night in a head on collision. I highly recommend wearing the shoulder belt.

Point well taken. The shoulder belt really does snug me back and restrict my freedom, but I think given the possible alternative, I best be untucking that from the headliner again.

@@B3burner Smart move, if you are ever in a collision, you'll be glad you buckled the shoulder belt. The lap belt protects you from the waist down, the shoulder belt adds protection for your torso and head/face.

So do I. They’re all very nice. Imagine owning one from each of those years? My insurance agent would easily be able to make his boat payment on my premiums alone- but I digress…. Thanks for watching! ;)

My very first Cadillac was my 1976 Cadillac Coupe deVille (with d'Elegance option)! It was Cotillion White with beautiful, supple emerald green leather interior! I like your '73! Oh, by the way, that "accent" top design = Halo Vinyl Top

Very fine car. It is really worth doing some work on it. Drove a 1973 Coupe dé Ville from 1986 -. 1995. The suspension needs to be raised front and rear an inch or two. You shall be able to see the emblem on the rear wheel hubcaps, but not more than that. The rust issues does not look bad, if you get the right people to handle it. The rubber on the front bumper looks nice, which is important, because they are hard to renovate, if the metal inside is rusted. The rubber on the rear bumper is easier. I replaced the steel inside with stainless steel. It is easy done. Looks fine here. The steering wheel needs an specialist, but there are people, who can restore it nicely. Good luck with it. The ride will spoil you.

Thank you so much for your detailed feedback. The suspension is what I'm having worked on right now. From the day I bought it, I knew the car had to be raised back up... it was just a question of when. It's being done tonight, as I type.

Nice caddy!!! I would guess accelerator pump is the cause of your hesitation. A carb rebuild might be necessary.

Thank you for the suggestion. I was at a loss, as I know it’s probably carburetor related, but had not specifically thought of the accelerator pump.

It’s still here with me and better than it was in this video, but it was never for sale. In fact I had only bought it and had it trailered up to me, just 3 days before this video was shot- so no, it’s still new to me and not going anywhere. But thanks for asking.

Hard to tell. At least that’s what the seller told me. What I know isn’t new are the metal border pieces, holding the top in, that are rusted (unfortunately). What do you think that top is made of? Vinyl? I thought it was more of a canvas, but I may be wrong.

  • @North49191

@@B3burner HI, I didn't think it was new because of the rust on it from the trim. It's like a vinyl and canvas mix. I am planning to look at a 72' coupe next week, I will look at that top to see what the pattern is. The one you have looks similar to what I had on a 74' Buick, so it appears period. Doesn't really matter you have a nice top. They are expensive to do and a lot of places near me don't even do them anymore. New clips for the trim are easy to find. I would avoid using a power washer on the roof, water gets forced up under the vinyl and rusts. Summer is coming, I hope you enjoy it.
