its not that my cats didnt interest at first, but my parents bougth a tunnel about more than 14 dollars, witch is alot in Reais (brazil money) and It happend that the tunnel was abnormally tiny and my cats couldn't even play right 😂 after that they found it a way more cheaper and bigger version and now we have a frankenstein tunnel... ...that they don't play alot, honestly 😂 but I can give them credit since they prefer to play with sticks with toy mices on the ends, and go through the tunnel to get to the toy. very cute

I bought a scratching post with carpet instead of cardboard and it has two dangly toys on top of it that my cat can bat at and it'll swivel around, since she only claws at fabric and not cardboard and also loves the fly toy i can use by hand. She has sniffed the toy part twice and never touched the scratching post, even when i tried to show her how to use it. 20 bucks...

We bought a vacuum cleaning robot that we never use for around 200€ cos my wife was hoping to see our cats sit on top of it...

The more you spend on a cat toy, the less they will like it. :P

One thing my cat loves is hair ties. I flick them and he brings it back to me with his mouth. Reminds me of a dog haha

My youngest cat loves hair ties too! Such fun to watch her toss them into the air and jump and play like crazy! 😸 She knows where I keep them and steals them.. I often find them hidden under mats.. 😻

I was impressed by his attention span. He exhausted all possibilities. Try toy rotation.

Well you’re a very generous owner, I’ll tell you that! Our cat toys are either diy or just some household items)) My cat goes crazy for hair ties, which seems like a rather common thing judging from these comments. Also loves playing an archeologist with the snowballs I throw into big piles of snow 😹

The best toys our 3 beloved cats have ALWAYS enjoyed have *never* been the ones we purchased.. Home-made toys.. a piece of card rolled up, a knotted sock with some catnip in it (or even without the catnip!), bits of polystyrene or a ball of silver foil, a wine cork with ribbon tied around it, dry leaves, hair ties.. the simplest toys are much appreciated.. 😸 EDIT: A cardboard box also provides endless fun!

Are you kidding!? This is a LONG time for a cat to play with a new toy!! The secret though is they really love an old paper bag or a wadded up piece of paper about as much at fancy cat toys! Bet you already know that! Fun watching your smart little Taz trying to figure out how to get those balls out of that toy! LOL! Yay Taz! Yay Taz's dad! :)

Yeah, I got a similar toy (in concept), except it was a multilayered ball tower. She was over it real quickly 😂 I didn’t know this until recently (after watching Jackson Galaxy review some cat toys), but these kinds of toys seem to primarily entertain young kittens that are less than 6 months or so. Older cats, not so much

Yes, you have to be part of the play. That's the way it must be.

So cats in having 4 usually like the banana bunting toy on Amazon full of catnip and the mouses from Walmart and dumb things that aren't cat toys lol Shawna from Canada

Have you tried a laser pointer yet? My youngest cat will literally climb walls to chase the little dot 😸 Even simply opening the drawer where I keep it makes him run into the room faster that I can blink my eyes, lol

Comments for the algorithm

These types of "toys" are not fun for cats. He's trying to work out how to get the balls out, but he'll never be able to because he doesn't have opposable thumbs! So he gets frustrated. These things are basically cat torture devices. Give him something to play with that's rewarding, acknowledge his intelligence! Then give this to a dog, they'll play with it for hours!

As a long time cat owner I can tell you most toys, beds, etc are a waste of money. They lose interest in things incredibly fast. Best to get a feather toy and spend time getting the cat to move around with that. Cats do what they want, when they want.

i think i know why taz lost interest. this is just balls rolling around that he can't ever catch, he stopped caring so quickly because it is easy to master and not very involved. my three cats never like those sorts of independent play toys unless they're full of catnip. i still have to play with them with a string toy daily. they can catch it (important for them to feel that satisfaction) and it's never the same to chase it twice.
