Agreed. So glad to know that my efforts have meaning, in theory.
Theres two more ‘walls’ (more like ledges) id like to HIGHLY RECOMMEND to be painted: the ledges around the basket in sockeye and spawning grounds Yes, theyre tiny, and yes, they seem unimportant but trust me, when youre being overrun and need to swim up to the basket those ledges will save you You wouldnt believe the ammount of times ive died bc we were overrun and my inkling couldnt jump up the ledge and the ledge wall wasnt painted Ive sorta come to think of it an just as important as having the little ledge by the basket in marooners bay be painted

I used to prioritize that lip by the basket on Sockeye Station, but then I learned to just squid roll up it. Most of the time that works better anyway, because more often than not it will be painted over by the Salmonids surprisingly frequently.

I always paint the little step up walls that make a huge difference coming back from lower levels. You get pinched by a hoard, it's much easier to slip away up the painted ledges.
Excellent! Even though I’ve been a prep painter for years in SR, the “which walls?” guide was still handy. Thank you!
8:40 Yes, these are the first walls I default to painting in Spawning grounds (unless it's High tide) because nobody does it, and it's saved me so many times. I'm glad to see many of the walls I prioritize being expressly noted here. I am definitely that one player who starts every shift painting all the important walls for survivability. Heck, several times in the last Marooner's Bay rotation I jumped down to paint the elevator before looking at the tide, only to find that it was high tide, and the propeller is disabled (Which wasn't how it worked in Splatoon 2, you could save yourself from the rising tide because the elevators still worked)
Also!! Aim for walls at a distance that way the wep paint drop will also cover the floor while you paint, essentially making it a 2 for 1. Very useful tip! And if you see a team mate painting 1 wall, move to another wall not painted. GREAT video and amazing tip! I’m very glad that as the video went on I found myself saying “hey I paint those walls 😆” really made me feel like I’m decent at SR 😁
All of these tips are great and I definitely learned a few things! I feel like I tend to be the only wall painter quite frequently, so I hope more people start picking up on this. Three things I also find helpful: 1. On Sockeye, see that tiny little wall on the basket platform? PAINT IT. If you are near the basket with a reasonable painting weapon and not currently overwhelmed, paint/repaint it. The tiny little slowdown you get from that being not painted or covered in enemy ink can sometimes be life or death. Maintaining the ink on that wall helps! (This also maintains paint on the ground around the wall, making jumps more consistent and quick.) 2. On Spawning Grounds, if wave 1 or 2 is low tide and you have a good paintier (splattershot, aero, dualie squelchers, jr., nova, etc.), as you head down to the shore, turn around and give that last wall a quick sweep of paint. If a later wave is mid tide or tornado, you and your team will be happy you have this wall. 3. Explosher is the fly fish slayer, but also one of the best wall painters in the game. If you stand with a wall *right at* the end of your range and slosh it so the explosion lands on the wall, it covers more than you think! I’m talking the entire under-grate on sockeye and entire elevator sides on Marooner’s. A few well-placed explo sloshes can take out most of the big walls on most stages, leaving your team much more time to (hopefully) cover all the smaller walls.
I did not know about the long wall on spawning grounds, thanks for that tip. I usually spend first few seconds painting just walls. Whenever I can. They save you so much!
the other day i had an example scenario where during high tide i was getting stuck and surrounded dead end to the edge of the platform, on the other side of the basket, the beach side. i was hit by a cohock and it threw me over the water between that spot and the basket, but because the wall next to the basket was painted and i was able to think quickly, i didnt give up and was able to cling to the wall and get to the basket without being splatted. i was quite amazed i pulled that off since i really thought i would have fallen to the water. since then ive learnt to utilize that and know to paint those walls! im still learning to get consistent to play evp, but that was a great learning experience haha
I always do this, and I feel so validated for it now 😭💚 especially the elevators on Marooners Bay!! I dont think I've ever seen a random coworker do this and I finally started making it my first priority every time because I was tired of coworkers abandoning me on the shore to take the elevator by themselves & leave me splatted 💀
Really great tips! I'd add if a teammate is Splatted and a wave is over, don't just let them sit there because of the 'downtime' where there's no salmonids because the time to respawn will cost them a few seconds they can use to ink at the start of the next wave.
Glad I'm not the only one who uses that mid tide wall in spawning grounds. I'm always the only one painting that one near shore, and the only one who has used it.
if u spend the opening seconds of a wave painting walls near the basket, you're also luring bosses to the basket

Thank you!!!!! I can't stress that enough! I always paint before I start, especially the high walls and nearly everything else. I hate it when team mates just stand there doing nothing. I normally be the last person to start off collecting eggs.
The habit of painting walls is a lifesaver. Seriously, getting caught in a spot you could've painted up beforehand will remind you not to let it happen again. I usually have to hope I'm not only one painting walls so we can make it easier on ourselves.
Ooooh additional overlooked wall for Sockeye, specifically low tide!! The tiny sides of the platforms on either side of the far shore! You can easily go in to kill nuisances like stringer/big shot and grab eggs when these walls are painted, because the second you hop up any lessers following you will give up to go around the long way
If you’re a single wall inker without much time to ink, if you have some type of shooter you can jump off higher levels and shoot as you fall. It really helps in Sockeye Station if you notice your teammates haven’t done it.
I'm always saying, a wall that you've painted isn't actually a wall! It's a doorway, and it's locked to your enemies.
I do find myself being the only one painting walls, this video nailed it about wall painting
Most useful video so far for newbies. I was hoping you make video about importance of painting walls. So many players never paint walls. Im like many people in comments Im usually the only one painting walls at the beginning of every shift .Great channel , great content. Keep it up!
I’ve been painting the lip around the basket of sockeye station because that tends to slow down egg collecting

Yeah, it's too high to jump up while swimming if it's not painted.
Thank you for speaking about the walls on the elevators! I need to keep that in mind more from now on! Its tricky sometimes, but not too hard when you have enough space on the way back and you can practice it on the Flying Salmons round
3:52 this some kind of sarcasm that this stage is a favorite for many players?
I love that wall near the docks on Spawning Grounds and I am glad you mentioned it! it used to be the wall I would beeline towards inking first back in Splatoon 2 and keep forgetting to do in this game.
Another great video. Painting walls really is helpful, it saves your skin so often once you start doing it.
oh my gosh yes, so many waves where the team runs to the shore spamming this way while im just painting walls 😆 on spawning grounds, i dont fuss too much at the pillars but at least one side of each one is handy for if you have to be out there for static bosses. everything else im happy to know im not missing anything useful that im not already doing!

Whenever a wave starts, i look where the first boss salmonids spawn and then shout a "My Way" once to let my mates know where to expect enemies. What everyone misunderstand is that it's not a call to rush to that shore... i will probably not do that anymore
i spam "booyah" like crazy of happiness everytime i find someone painting the walls with me
If you have the best painting weapon on a rotation with weapons that can't paint please be the one to paint walls.
I'd like to point out that some of the walls closer to the shore don't need to be painted. If your team knows to lure, you won't be in need of far turf being painted at all. At most, I find success simply ignoring many walls toward the shore, and with walls in mid painted.
@HDHaZmY

Those can very important when you go for Shore Runs against Big Shots and Stingers
Freelance still has a lot of people going to the shore when they shouldn't, so I've taken to painting some of the walls that face the shore, like the ones near the pillars in Spawning Grounds or the platforms on Sockeye Station. That way, they can just climb up to escape the hoards that immediately come in, since it's usually faster than the ramps.
8:38 legit I’m regularly a 999 runner and even at 999 I’m the only person who bothered to ink this wall. 😭 Glad to see you point it out!
I already paint most of these walls, although you did bring my attention to some that I had not thought of. Thank you for your help!
I started painting the walls in salmon run and it really does help. Many escapes from being spatted and short cuts to the basket
I absolutely love to paint the walls close to the shore on spawning grounds! Glad you mentioned it bc i want more players to know about that route and collect shore eggs easier and safer! Also i tend to get splatted by lessers on that same corner since that’s close to the shore where they tend to spawn a lot, so it is a quick escape route and also prevent some splats far from your teammates ^^ Thank you for another awesome video as always and helping spread the word about a lot of unspoken awesome salmon run tips! 😼
I would like to say these tips helped me beat my first cohozuna Thanks for the tips

Same!!! 👍
I had to double check if I ran into you last night lol- That's me at 0:51, HaloPrime!!
they really did us a favor by not wiping the ink away on the lower platforms during high tide.
this video is a holy mission. good luck :| Even into EVP, people usually don't ink walls. It gets to the point where I have my own rituals for levels. Spawning ground: Ink the wall near the basket, ink the right side, head up, ink the right hand ledge/wall, drop, do a 180 and ink the back wall. swim back up, ink the floor and usually its about time to go. Usually people are hyper focused on the floor up there. Even in Big run ..having those blocked inked to get up to the higher levels was critical. Every so often you are out there trying to kill stingers or fly fish , and you get sandwiched between 2 groups of salmonoid. Those blocks provided the mobility you need to survive. I am always surprised that so few people figured it out.
The tips for Marooners Bay and Spawning Groups especially were SUPER helpful!!! I find those two maps the trickiest, and can't believe I never thought to paint the elevator walls and that one long right-side shore wall on spawning grounds before! 😭

The amount of times I've died due to those lifts is maddening.
Thank you! Escape routes and short cuts are so valuable! I always know we survive if another player helps me paint the walls.
I actually didn't know about the long wall on Spawning Grounds by the dock(?) area so that's definitely interesting to see anyways glad I could help with your recording (maybe there was a better way to word it but at the moment I can't think of any) have a good day Hazmy
i've seen very few players paint the last wall you mentioned in spawning grounds. i also forget about it a lot myself. you made it look so good i'm gonna try doing that next spawning grounds shift 😂
this really clicked for me when i realized walls are the one movement trick we have that salmonids don’t. they can chase you on the floor all across the map but if you get up and get verticality on them you can totally change the game
Walls are super important. They are great emergency escape routes! Some players disregard walls, and I have to paint the walls for their sake, haha.
It's so nice/weird to see this pop up right now as I spent all of Sockeye Station today painting walls and routes for my inexperienced part-timers (rank dropped quite a chunk after Christmas coughcough), and Now I know I wasn't just being dumb. Thank you for the additional info! The small incline walls are always a must.
I use that wall in Spawning Grounds but I kinda just paint it when I need it rather than the beginning. Last Sockeye Station, my freelance teammates kept dying so I painted the entire tower walls. I don't always do that either since its so much wall, but it probably helped for that rotation.
8:40 -- Thought I was the only one who knew the importance of those walls. Just don't often get a chance to paint them because no one else is painting any of the other high value walls. :(

ugh ditto! they are so helpful but same as you, don’t get to cover them often when teammates don’t paint any walls🥴
Good stuff man, i just wish more people watched these videos
Thank you for your service! --#1 OCD Wall-Painter
THE TWO LITTLE LEDGES IN MAROONERS BAY ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE PAINTED. It has made my experience SO much better.
Anyone who played splatoon 2 knows the marooners bay lip is clutch haha
Something I don’t get seen talked about much is how killing a Steelhead causes a massive explosion, which if my eyes server correct, can hurt and even kill other salmonid. Especially useful when Stingers and Bigshots are nearby. Though I have not seen if it could effect Flyfish
While it's possible we'll get a new Salmon Run stage next, I hope we get Salmonid Smokeyard soon
hoping this video convinces people to ink the walls because i’m always the only one doing it🥴 we’d be COOKIN these salmonids if every player helped the cause!
I’ve been in so many situations where I was the only one painting walls, and it’s rather frustrating
spawning ground has some of the most egregious walls in the whole mode. the yellow/black tape along some of the edges is the exact same patern used to highlight wall barriers that prevent climbing all the way up, I'd say this is the biggest contributer to newer players not painting those walls which is a shame cause they are some of the most clutch wall climbs on the map.
Designated wall painter for life!!!
Me when my carefully painted walls get filled with ugly lines from stingers :(
Always go for the walls at start of shift\wave but usually am alone or join by 1 more player
Sockeye Station is a pain in the ass to paint all the walls of because of the three tiered spiral tower, and I’m usually the only one doing it. My teams always paint the walls on hydroplant though.
You didn't even mention it, but I didn't know you can lead a Slammin' Lid closer to the basket like how you did in the last footage
i always make sure to do this so whenever i get a thin sniper weapon its a nightmare 😭 not the sniper type anyways but only being able to shoot super thin lines when noone else is wall painting is pain
And then you get THAT coworker who somehow got 4 of the 92 eggs total and was splatted 9 times 😒

or that guy who sits in the life preserver behind a steelhead on the furthest corner of Sockeye and won't move an inch or call for help :( I don't know how these guys are in eggsecutive
People don't use the wall on the very end next to the pier on Spawning Grounds..? Weird.. I've been using it for months.
I love how you say propellers 😂 consider the root word: propel
More tips for quota, please, that's how most of my waves are lost these days :U
I honestly thought there wasn't a wall facing the shore in Spawning Grounds, or that it wasn't paintable. I say that, and I'm a very consistent wall painter. Heck, I'm the one who told my team to paint the tiny walls on the bridge at Marooner's Bay!
First! I love your guides hazmy ❤
No matter how many viewers you have, I still have all 3 teammates only paint floors and use their specials on wave 3
Hazmy, I have something to ask : sometimes, when I put a wave breaker, it got destroyed by a steel eel. I am a little upset about that and I truly want to know which enemy is able to destroyed it
I just LOVE when I have to paint the walls as a charger because my teammates won’t do it.

Technically if you aim at a wall at a distance, be it long or semi close, you will also paint the floor when aiming at the wall bc of paint drop. So it’s better to paint the walls and then focus on floor. Seeing also as how in the start of all shifts they all spawn from one side
@libertyjones3799

The ground is something that gets painted quite naturally. Most of your shots will land on the ground, especially when splatting lessers. Walls are priority for weapons that can paint them effectively! Obviously don’t leave the ground around the basket dry and don’t hesitate to paint main platforms and ramps on your way. On low tide, keep the ground around your basket inked with as few gaps as possible, get the mentioned walls, and try to add “ink peninsulas” towards where salmonids spawn. If you have a charger, try to maintain those “ink peninsulas” going to basket for your team! If there’s some ground that’s looking a little too green for you and you can safely throw some of your ink down as you move to your next task, totally do it! It could be some pivotal turf later!

Not gonna lie, I legitimately get pissed off every time I get partnered with someone who just stands there for those 10 seconds, not doing anything. I mean who really needs to be told that they should paint when they're given free time to do so? Prioritizing the walls specifically I can kind of understand because that's not quite as obvious (though I think should still be pretty clear as soon as you realize that most salmonids can't climb), but do SOMETHING, people! It's not even like they might not know that you can move during the countdown because their teammates are gonna be clearly showing them that you can. I figure even most kids would at least be running around painting out of sheer impatience if nothing else.
