The realiism of the remote controls has been captured really well on this card. They look almost identical to the real remotes. Awesome little card. It's a nice way to use Home Assistant as a remote control.

I like how it expands and contracts with added or removed buttons/text.

@diedrichguenther401 That is one of the many things that sets this apart from other remote cards. Firemote is NOT a static image with buttons mapped over the top. The Firemote card is dynamically drawn, and reacts to user interaction.

Awesome!!! Do you think it would be possible to create a button in HK that could launch a specific Apple TV Remote? It would be awesome if you could have a button in every room in HK for the Atv remote for that room. Thank you for your time developing for the community!

Imagine displaying this remote on the e-ink display.. Nice way to share your recent activity. You explicitly mentioned 'only through this virtual remote'. I'm wondering if there's an ADB listener to add events when you press physical remote buttons 🤔

;) needed to push that video a bit more, I like it and it didn't have as many views as I hoped for As for buttons, not that I know of, Probably someboady hacked it. Also, some of them are Bluetooth, so that's another option, I guess...

Thanks for another great HA video. This component looks neat but I honestly can't imagine the use case for virtual remote if you already have a physical one? Am I missing something here???

Good point and you're right. I've removed part of the video while editing - I don't see use case for myself. I can't remember when I used other remote I have (for LG TV) - maybe 2-3 time in last 4 years. While I was trying to work and kids had TV running to loud. But others may have different use for it.

I hear this question every once in a while, so I actually added a discussion in the Firemote Wiki page. (KZread doesn’t allow me to post a direct link). It is discussion #333 under the title “What do people use this for? What’s the point?”

What is the other remote that is on your dashboard in the middle? Was that one also done with Firemote or another remote setup?

That's LG TV remote (LG has excellent HA integration) - done it years ago, probably one of my first integrations in HA. It's using LG webOS integration.

I just wish it was simpler setting up IR remotes in home assistant

  • @BeardedTinker

Unfortunately, you'll have to blame IR companies for this. No standard whatsoever, so many different types of code, length, encryption/no encryption, dynamic codes etc...

This card is awesome, but, my only issue with it is that it doesn't wake up my Roku TV when it is in standby. I first have to press the power button on the actual remote, and then I can control it with this card. Any tips to overcome this?

  • @BeardedTinker

    @BeardedTinker

    Ай бұрын

This is HW "issue". Do you have Wake-on-LAN set on Roku TV? THis allows waking devices over network, and without that being set, you'll not be able to turn it on. For example. for my older LG TV even set, this does not work properly.

@BeardedTinker found the setting. It's called "Fast TV Start" in mine. Allows tv to switch on using a voice assistant or Apple Homekit etc. Also maintains HA connection when the tv is in standby 👍.

All went well until "Android Debug Bridge Entity" error shows up. And nothing in the box to select. I'm using an LG TV and Onn 4k streaming box. I have them installed on HA. Here's my Error log. And nothing in the entity. type: custom:firemote-card entity: ' ' device_family: onn device_type: onn-4k-streaming-box compatibility_mode: default defaultRemoteStyle_override: '' app_launch_1: youtube app_launch_2: netflix app_launch_3: pluto-tv app_launch_4: prime-video android_tv_remote_entity: remote.living_room_tv visible_name_text: Onn Remote name_position: top Any suggestions much appreciated. And thanks for the great video. 👍😎

Is your ADB integration working or you have error there? I had an error and just recreated it as IP address of the device changed.

As in controlling HA from physical remote? Yeah, shame, but that would also require a hub of a sort to get signals from them.

@@BeardedTinker it might be possible if you have a IR blaster, and are able to detect the "IR-codes" though this might require a custom quirk under ZHA. so instead of recording and sending the "IR CODES" it only receives them and puts them into a usable state/data entity
