Fireforge Games- Medieval Russian Infantry!

Ойын-сауық

Time for some good old fashioned plastic warriors! Literally!
Fireforge have put out some nice kits in an area that doesn't have a whole lot of competition, and it's cool to see them continue to focus on areas that so far have been neglected when it comes to gaming scale plastic models.
At first I thought this set was pretty similar to the Scandinavian infantry. They do share the mace and sword arm, and by further extension, some of the Scandinavian axes would absolutely work with these guys. The real difference is with the heads, shields, and bows.
With these parts you'll have a very unique looking warband, with plenty of parts to build out your group however you wish, and with a few bits here and there you've got a perfect set of Varangian Guard to go with some Fireforge Byzantines while you're at it!
Nevermind all the weird stuff you can make too!
If you're in the states and want to sample a few bits, you can get individual sprues here!

The Russian infantry box and the Scandinavian infantry are two of my favorite multipart kits. So many bits and the kit-bashing potential is great!

I can't seem to find any of my Northstar bits! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong boxes. All I found was those arms with the bones from the wizard kit. Oathmark spears are nice and thick too, which make for a lot better gaming.

The Russians and the Scandinavians by Fireforge are essentially the same box. Only difference is the heads, and and a handful of the weapons. The bodies are legitimately the exact same. Which, makes sense, given the two regions’ close proximity to each other, and shared cultural origins. I actually used quite a lot of spare weapons and other bits to make a bunch of heavy infantry for my Oathmark army. Head swaps were great and easy.

If you mix various bits of Fireforge Russian Infantry, Byzantine Spearmen and Teutonic Infantry together, you can actually make a surprisingly historically accurate Late Medieval Greek-Byzantine/Serbian/Bulgarian army (they were completely indistinguishable by the period) without having too much green stuff conversion.

Great video review, keep up the good work man. Yeah the thickness of the integral plastic bases on some of the FireForge stuff is kinda ridiculous. I take some decent grit sandpaper and wear down the bottom of the bases to thin them out some.

That probably helps with the sandpaper. Hadn't even thought of that! I'm still waiting for those samurai models to eventually trickle across the pond. Not many stores in the US have any yet, or if they do, they're gone by the time I remember I wanted to get some!

Fireforge does indeed make Scandinavian infantry and the 2 handed axes and bodies are either the same or dang close. I have a box I used for Frostgrave knights before the Frostgrave knights box was released.

It got here in a very roundabout way, through a series of interesting circumstances. A PO Box isn't a bad idea- in fact I think I have family that already has one set up, so I'll double check on that and see if they don't mind me sharing it.
