I played FE 7 a lot in the last 2 Month and i would say it´s the best entry if someone want to get into the series. It has anything a classic Fire Emblem game offers, without being to complicated or clunky and the battle sprites are still gorgeous to look at. It´s also a fair game with a lot of content. 30+ chapters and side storys split into 1 big and 1 small campaign which is the tutorial, 4 difficulties (because Hector Mode is a little harder Elliwood Mode with extra content). The game offers so many and makes so much fun to play. And if you own a Switch and you have Nintendo Online+ anyway, you have a modern offical way to play it, without extra costs, which makes it very easy to get into the series.

Favorite thing about Sacred Stones is the branching paths. I wish we had Fe7 but with mechanics like the sacred stones features such as branching paths!

Echoes was my first and made me fall in love with Fire Emblem. I loved the dungeon crawling. Best OST in the series, too

Sacred Stone also has an index where you can learn the game mechanic if you need to. The first chapters also serve as a fluid and effective tuto

the first game i beat was actually genealogy (i started one of the fates games but never finished it years earlier). then i beat valentia and then i tried fe6 but got so annoyed that i went and beat thracia (the 3ds gba inject had no savestates, unlike the snes). i dont think anyones had as weird of an intro the series as me lol.

I'm still fairly new to the series. The first one I played was Three Houses, when it came out. I liked it so much that I got Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light when it became available on the Switch for a limited time (and it was only a couple of bucks), and I really enjoyed that too, although it sure felt BRUTAL in comparison to Three Houses. I've since played Mystery of the Emblem, Genealogy of the Holy War, Thracia 776, Radiant Dawn, and Engage, and Engage was the only one that I couldn't really get into. The combat isn't bad (it's actually pretty good), but the story did not feel like the sort of epic that I want from a Fire Emblem game, and it just made it feel like I was playing a generic SRPG, and not an actual Fire Emblem game. The art style didn't help either. I actually kind of like the look of the female protagonist, but she doesn't feel like a Fire Emblem character. Some of the characters almost feel like they could have been in a Dragon Quest game, and while I love Dragon Quest.....Dragon Quest is not what I want from a Fire Emblem game. It certainly was an unexpected move after the massive hit that was Three Houses. I'm still hoping for a return to Fodlan in the future. I think there's still plenty of room for new stories set there. Perhaps a prequel, or a story set in the other kingdoms, like Dagda or Brigid. But if it does happen I hope it reduces the time spent exploring the main base for collectibles though. The monastery phases just took way too much time.

Sacred Stones has a much better story than FE7, in my opinion, so I would swap FE7 and FE8 on that list. It’s really fun to play and replay to optimize, because dropping Seth with Vanessa in a pool of enemies with a Javelin is certainly an experience. It’s also heavily encouraging you to promote early with Gerik and Knoll, and Summoners are really fun to use.

With FE7 The dreaded Lyn mode is of course created to get new western players into the game, you can even skip the mode with FE6 save data. FE6 was supposed to be the first one coming to the west, but they waited until FE7 with that. Looking at FE6, it does have some things that are not so good for newcomers, but i think it would still be decent. As an FE game in general after playing others, i really love FE6. FE7 was still a little confusing for me to get into, so for me FE6 would not have worked as an first game. But i was young and did not really have experience with games in that corner. Oh i do think FE7 normal is kinda easy, but the last chapter has an too big difficulty spike for real beginners. My first time i focused on a few units which got destroyed by most puppets, not great. When having an bad team you can get stuck right at the end

I technically started with heroes, but my first real game was 3 houses. Went on to play the GBA titles, both tellius games, the FE1 switch port, 3 hopes, and engage. Radiant dawn is my favorite fe game

So I played 7-10, as well as Shadow Dragon, these have just the right level of complexity for me, but Radiant Dawn is by far the hardest of these games I actually played...

While i respect your opinion and experience on the game. Alot of it felt like "gen wunner" talk from pokemon. Like "Only the first 150 are REAL pokemon, the rest is dumb" kind of talking but fire emblem. You know what i mean? I feel like a new player, especially a zoomer. Should rly start with a newer title to get into it. Zoomer in general have a short attention span and are spoiled by modern games. If you present them something from the 90s (and i love those games, millenial myself here)... they wont get hooked. They will drop after 20 minutes, if even. I really feel first timers should either start with awakening or fates. Those who are used to story rich games even with 3 houses. So they can develop a love for the franchise and THEN backtrack to the "roots" of it. Actually: Fans of the persona or shin megami tensei franchises whould start with encore to develop some interesst in the characters

I love all of the Fire Emblem games, and the ones I come the closest to not enjoying are the clunky, outdated NES games. So I don't think that I am comparable to a FE equivalent of a Pokemon Gen Wunner. As someone who started with Awakening then played Shadow Dragon, it was originally concerning how I didn't have access to grinding. I got used to it, but I wish I had known when playing Awakening that most Fire Emblem games at the time have a more linear experience. That said, I wouldn't stop anyone who wanted to start with any FE game from Awakening onwards.

I'm a certified Three Houses hater and even I think that game is way too low here, the number of people I know that started with that game and got into the franchise because of it is second only to Awakening of any game in the series, it should be in A tier despite it's differences from the series core, and if you ordered the tiers, I think it should be at the bottom of A. Id make a few other small changes personally, but the three houses one is the only change I think is multiple tiers off

Your mileage may vary. I checked someone else's list. He too said that while Three Houses isn't a bad place to start per se, it is outclassed by better options. Those I know who started with Three Houses only went on to play Engage, and they didn't enjoy it.
