Logic has some projects of billies music with every take, its insane, you can listen to a lot of vocal parts with ideas that didnt end up on the final tracks and shit like that

When I was in school for production we got access to the stems for Ocean Eyes so we could try to mix it ourselves. I totally get what he’s saying here.

Imagine if the _"after x years, this is public domain"_ copyright rules applied to stems, raw footage & anything else that people could enjoy & use - massive wealth of material to hear, use, and work with, but I can't imagine many artists going for it

Just went and grabbed the stems, they're real easy to find, even outside of logic.

a few years ago i asked him personally for the "bellyache" stems since i really loved the "devault" remix of that song and i really wanted to experiment. but he said no to me and that devault was a close friend of them, but that he really appreciated my will to have access to that kind of material. but...yeah. he should free the stems. i got em "ilegally" in other sites tho by the end xD btw thank you for answer my DM finneas haha.

just like with anything stems are someones work and livelihood in a world where everything was shared and out there it would be interesting but i get why people dont share them unless its with trusted collaborators

Often a new band will naively want to ‘plug in and play live’ when recording their first record. Then they wonder why they sound like a rough demo at best, despite being a well-rehearsed great ‘live band’. Recording and live are two different things-you need to add some extra ear candy to sound big and polished.

They already do, not to mention 90% out here are just using loops they paste in anyway. So sad. Ive been doing this under a year and have heard quality songs, but its a drop in the ocean, the idea of fame in production doesnt exist. Better playing the lottery

Stems are actually subgroups, like Drums, Bass, Guitars, Keys, Vocals. You can break them down further like Acoustic Guitars and Electric guitars, or Lead Vox and Backing Vox. Tracks are the individual elements. The bass buss, for example may combine tracks of a D.I. bass, a bass amp, and a synth bass.

@@mikewaldron4492 i'll add to note that stems also don't "have" to be instruments. you can make stems of delays and reverbs, for example.

For those who want stems you can extracted stems from any song you want with LALAAI or other Ai tools thats free right now, of course the quality is not the best but hey i want Flume to drop a his entire project file but right now that's the best we have. Not the biggest fan of him or his sister's music but some of his video when it comes to audio engineering and mixing is pretty informative and he knows what he is doing
