Thank you for sharing your inspiring vlogs! My mom was an artist who started drawing in her 50s and ended up teaching around 200 people. She left more than two dozens of sketchbooks before she recently passed, and I literally teared up as I went flipping though pages toward the very last one. Watching your sketchbook episode reminds me of how happy my mom was to have met what she could devote herself into after having worked 24/7 to fend for family.

I'm so sorry for your loss, your mom sounds like one amazing lady. I can't imagine what it must have felt like to go through her sketchbooks knowing how much joy they brought her - I'm glad she could practice the thing she loved ❤️

I, for one, would love an art book tour! Although, books are kind of my weakness so it could end up costing me plenty💸 Congrats on finishing that sketchbook, some just take a little longer than others. So many juicy colors and incredible line work😍 (as always)

Thank you so much for this cozy video. I’m having a hard week as I lost my dog earlier this week 😢 This video gave me some calm and comfort in this difficult time. Also, I remember you lost your cat some time ago, and it makes me hopeful to see you with your new cat. It reminds me that even though I can never have my dog back, I will one day hopefully find a new dog to love ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear that! I hope you find some healing 💖 Yes! It took me a while to adopt a new cat; I was afraid of comparing them or feeling like it would make me miss my first cat more. But I'm glad I took my time and adopted when I was ready - they're all unique individuals and each relationship is wonderful in different ways. I hope you find a new dog when you're ready 💕

I think Sumi knows when the camera is rolling and thinks: " get cute, the world is watching." Your vlogs are a masterclass of an artist's life and works. I love the inclusion of your cultural background (Newyorker and Asian American) ...whether intentional or not. Have you read all the books you have; I hadn't even heard of many of the books. I'm excited for an artbook tour, but I'm also interested in the other books (despite this being an art channel). Your opinions matter. Especially from those most aware and those with the capacity and ability for the abstract; like yourself. Your art is a critical necessity, to sustain what is best about us. Creativity, nurture and love. Without these, peace has no place to grow.

Haha she certainly is a pro at that!! Other than The Brothers Karamazov I've read everything on that shelf - though the majority of the novels and non fiction I read come from the library (I am a sucker for art books tho). Ah, so well put! Thanks so much for your encouragement :'~)

My digital artwork doesn't exist in a sketchbook per se, but in timestamped folders capturing each year of my work, so it's missing that thrill of finishing the final page, but each year starts a new empty folder of possibilities. It's been a long time since I last saw someone in media eat waffles the same way I do, pouring on syrup and using a knife and fork. I've also not been to IHOP in a while. Anyway, thanks for helping me feel a bit more "normal" in my waffle-eating style.

The digital version must give you so much flexibility! And it must feel a lot like seeing an empty set of pages to see that new folder of possibilities. I wasn't aware that people ate waffles a different way, aside from maybe with chicken, haha!

Your art has really inspired me to illustrate my characters more freely and loosely without them feeling too realistic! 😅 I wanted to ask what sketchbook do you use? 🥰 The pages are so light, i can totally tell! Glad I could keep you company at so late an hour! I hope you get a good night's rest. I really do recommend trying a caffeine detox if you're game! My sleep was so much better. House panthers are the best, introverted or no! With the patterns I draw, sometimes I'll just make it up out of my imagination but sometimes I'll look at multiple references.
