Finishing and Riding My DIY Snowboard - Part 14, The Finale
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
It's finally finished! After nearly a year of being in the works I put the finishing touches on my first snowboard build and accomplish a dream that I've had ever since I was a kid. In this video I repair the top sheet, chamfer the sides of the board, grind the base, drill the binding inserts, add a finish, and then it's edge sharpening, waxing, and off to the mountains! Thanks so much for coming along with me on this build!

Beautiful! Glad you accomplished something meaningful to yourself. And grateful that you shared it…. Especially the “failure” in the earlier video. Very satisfied for you!
That has to be incredibly satisfying to tell people you built that board when they ask you where you got it!

It happened when I was on the mountain! Someone asked me what kind of board it was and I got to say "It isn't, I made it!" Then we were both stoked!

@@GoodRoads it's addicting man! You'll never be able to ride a big name board again.
I binged episodes 1-13 and was disappointed when it wasn’t finished. Happy I only had to wait 2 days for this finale!
This is awesome Chris!! Hey folks, I saw this board in person yesterday, and she’s a beauty!

Congratulations, man! What a huge accomplishment. 8:43 This Valentine's day I wish I had someone who looks at me the way Chris looks at his DIY snowboard. So wholesome.

Thanks for taking us along for the ride on this build Chris, bumps and all. :) It's been one of those nagging projects in the back of my skull for a couple of years now, i think by watching all this unfold i've now gathered the courage to try this myself, thanks for that! :)

Have you ever tried building a wakeboard

I have not, but it would be a fun project, I haven't wakeboarded in years. I think I've even got a hookup with a boat...
Board looks super fun! For your first board it came out pretty awesome, hope you do another some day! Also another tip to help keep resin off the base material. Cover the whole base with packing tape or wide laminate tape. Then run a razor blade on the inside of the metal edging, that will allow the excess resin to flow between the base and the metal edging but not stick to the base material as much. Makes sanding out the base slot easier and cleaner.

Thanks dude!
you could make a 5cm thick 3d printed riser plate to put snowboard bindings in a normal surf stance on a 19/20cm wide monoboard to experience that snowskate-like smooth transition from edge to edge.....i went further than this and mounted telemark bindings on the swivel bearing from a shopping cart to make it even more free and snowskatey..all that time you were trying not to have heel lift in your boots but skateboarders have heel lift all the time
Congrats. I’m currently exploring how to make a long board for my daughter and I found your channel. Good stuff.

I just watched the all playlist project. That was a huge challenge and I can understand the emotion at the end. I can't wait to see how the new board will come out!
So happy! Thanks for the show and for the lessons, you push me so mutch!
Just binged the whole series. Great work! Thank you.
Hi man I just blew through your whole snowboard build from start to finish in a few days. I enjoyed every bit of it! Yea, it definitely sucked to see the epoxy drama in the first layup, but I think your joy of the finale here makes up for all the glitches! Really nicely filmed, voiced and edited. Super easy to follow along and understand what you do. I hope you do another one and in the mean time I will be shopping around for some gear and tools to try myself - it looked like a super fun thing to do. Stay safe and stay sane.

its AWESOME bro!! your videos are cool. I have a question for you man: what is the material for the base sheet? Greetings from Riobamba Ecuador man !!
@GoodRoads
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! It's PTEX (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) which is a pretty standard snowboard and ski base material.
Its soooo cool!! Im happy for you, have fun with it. I would love to build my own snowboard could you give me the links where you bought the composants plz.

I got almost everything from snowboardmaterials.com with the exception of the wood for the core, which I got from a lumber yard, and the urethane for the sidewalls which I got from specialtyresin.com. I got the veneer for the topsheet off ebay and the finish at a hardware store

This board is awesome man we’re so proud! It works so well and I’m glad you didn’t give up. Do you have any pricing or material lists? I’ve been wanting to make a snowboard for a while but don’t know where to get started. Thank you so much for the content I can’t wait for more

The video with the failed layup had a price list. Honestly if you don't have any of the materials budget at least $500.
@GoodRoads
3 жыл бұрын
If I remember right the materials worked out to around $350-400 and I already had a lot of wood and tools and stuff. If you're in the states snowboardmaterials.com carries everything you need, but you can source the wood for the core from a home depot or something
What size did it end up being
How did that board last overall last season?
@GoodRoads
2 жыл бұрын
I got five wonderful days on the hill with it! On day 5 that bulge in the base sheet where my binding insert wasn't seated properly tore and delamed a section of the base sheet. It's probably fixable but it was pretty close to the end of the season at that point. I'm stoked I got to ride it as much as I did and on to the next one!
