@@StoneyRidgeFarmer on that finish mower you may want to put a wire or something to hold those little clips on the wheels the one I had like that branches or sticks would grab them and pull them out.i didn't know you had the finish mower for the ventrac I thought it was the ruff cut. I use,the 6ft finish mower on my ventrac and it does a great job and you can mow grass at 5mph I cut at 4 inches and it's super easy to raise and lower the height

I have be watching your videos since you had that trespasser on your land and never miss watching one on here and Facebook whenever I got notified. Im on the 3rd season of my fm5 mower exactly like yours but a 5'. The guage wheels failed a week ago and cost 140.00 to replace. The new wheels have a grease fitting for the bearing so they are much better. I believe this mower is actually an Italian brand by the name caroni. I have replaced 1 wheel fork so far. They arent bad at around 22.00 a pc. The shaft on the originals are very soft. I ended up using red loctite on all the bracket fasteners because they came loose a lot and i put them on with an impact. I make it a point to grease the spindles before every mow. They are still nice and tight. I have replaced the belts and blades once which werent a big deal. I have had to replace all of the grease zerks a few times over due to the coming loose and falling off. The powdercoat is finally starting to peel. All in all it's been a decent mower for the price. I change the gearbox lube every season. If i can get 3 more years out of it I'll be happy lol

I bought a finish mower a couple of years ago and sold it pretty quick. A good zero turn was what the doctor ordered. It will literally cut circles around a finish mower. I will say that it may not be best for everyone, but we have a couple of lawn tractors, a bush hog, and a zero turn. Between all that we have exactly what we need.

Mowing height should influence your chosen type less than the terrain type being mowed does. A finish mower set low but mowing brush, stumps and molehills won’t last long or perform well, just like a brush hog set low dragging the ground mowing on a golf course would disappoint.

  • @Theywaswrong

Well, we also dont want to scalp the ground. I dont mow very short because where I live the rocks seem to grow. Lots of hills and small mountains. From a distance part of what I mow looks like a front yard..but walk across it and you are constantly finding rocks sticking up. I rock areas I mow but with weather, rain and the tractor tires sometimes turning up a rock, rocking a field is for me a never ending chore to save my finish mower. I could brush cut it but its about four acres around my home. I have a 200 ft. driveway.

The more you can cut it down to the 3-4”’s of blade length or grass height. The more you train the grass or turf to max out at that height. So you want to hit it when it’s 5”’s max so the grass plant grows more shoots and more sideways instead of straight up. The old rule of never remove more than 1/3 of the total blade height comes into play there. I wish I lived down the road so I could come and help ya mow! You are definitely doing some mowing every week on that place! How much lawn area do you have now about 7-8 acres? That pond sure is nice and hopefully you can get some bull gills or crappies to feed up...so you can have a nice little fish fry for the family every once and awhile. I’m definitely excited to see the videos of restoring that giant bat-wing brush hog ... I’d have to think that you could definitely pick up some extra cash for running that around some fields around your way? You’re definitely going to have some nice dense turf after mowing with your new mower for awhile. How high of a cut will the Ventrack do? I really want one of those with all the attachments... it’s an awesome machine. It sure made your seedbed’s sweet looking! And that front mount grading attachment made quick work of your piles... and crushing those small saplings with your brush hog attachment sure sold me on the fact that a small machine really can get a whole heap of work done. You’ve definitely helped sell some of those through your videos of putting that thing threw it’s paces! You definitely weren’t babyish on it when you were running it! I thought for sure that it was gonna brake when you were pushing the brush into piles! Great videos!!! Thanks for sharing your time and beautiful property with us.
