Thanks, James , after watching this product review I ordered a 96'" X 30" HO Trackside Scenery backdrop for my layout. I have'nt mounted it yet as I just picked up the masonite board (for mounting) at Lowes yesterday. Lowes cut the masonite to my specifications and with the leftover masonite they also cut out the fascia pieces I needed, so there was very little waste of material. I have a 7' x 5' NOCH pre-formed "Silvretta" layout. It's all good ! Great Review, Thanks again !

I have a small layout nowhere near as big as yours. I just bought a few of these backdrops after seeing this video. They really take the layout to a whole new level. I am very happy with them.

James I think all of your videos should be filmed late at night, I found this very light hearted and amusing. Also I believe the "meh" and "meh+" grading system needs to be introduced in your next review lol keep it up, good video as always!

Hi James. Thanks for posting this. Well presented and to the point. The forestry backdrop looks excellent! However, it would be helpful to see you post something similar regarding urban type backdrops (small to medium sized towns and/or industrial areas.

I'm weighing my backdrop options like you. I like how you experiment honestly and then share your findings with everyone for better or for worse. The armchair hobbyists like me can then make some educated guesses based on your trials and errors instead of ours LOL! But honestly, thanks... One important aspect about backdrops that you glossed over in your Bob Ross dig is that backdrops must convey a sense of distant landscape without drawing attention to itself. To that end, painted backdrops are good at giving impressions without being too detailed. One gripe I have with a lot of photo backdrops on the market is that they are so "high quality" that they actually look bad on the layout. If someone sees my layout for the first time and the first thing they say is "nice backdrop" then I think it failed. So have you had much luck finding "fuzzy" photo backdrops?

Hi James this is my first comment to you and I have been following you from I guess the beginning. First I have to disagree with the viewer who likes the night silliness. I trust you and look to your reviews and videos like this one as guidance for how to dos and where to go info. That said I have a fast forward device built right into my keyboard. The backdrop is great, I agree the road might have curved into the wood a little more, the autumn foliage when on the ground turns to a darker brown mixed with a sifted yellow foam like you used. The larger yellow clumps tells a fib to the rest of the good scenery. The signs and foreground trees are very good. Keep up the good work James.

Great review. The back drop looks great. Your modeling skill has improved leaps and bonds from previous layouts. This is YT, you are always going to get people thinking you get stuff for free or paid to show something. Maybe you do but that is why you are here to bring things for people to see. You may get nothing for free or get paid other than YT. Really its none of their business. I really hate people that go on about this with every review or what ever. If you are the lucky one to receive things from companies is because you have the audience for them to promo their stuff. They just don't give stuff for the hell of it. If people want this stuff for free they have to have a channel with a large audience for the companies to recognize them. Listen up people its called work. You never get stuff for free unless you work for it.Scott

+sparky107107 no big deal, what does upset me is when money for people's giveaways and doing reviews comes out of my own pocket and people think they know what happened when each time is different. This time, it was out of pocket.

James, If you're going to paint/weather your trestles you need to look at ericstrains channel episode 37. I used his technique and mine turned out great... if I do say so myself. I'd love to see you do a video if you do it. AM HIGH!

Did you give any thought to starting the road curve just before the backdrop so it feeds into the illusion. not criticizing at all it looks great, it was just a thought.

The road needs to begin to curve before it reaches the backdrop . as it touches the wall , cut it flush with the wall on an angle until the road is no more . My hint for the day..... month ..... ok the year lol . Other than that one thing , an overall great job .

Hello, Nice looking, If you add a few with the back limbs cut off and glued next to the backdrop if may look as if they are coming out of the picture. But here is my 2 cents. If I finish my layout (in 10 or so Years) it will need about 360 feet of backdrop pictures so there is no way I could afford it. Nor do I think I could find that much of different pictures. 2nd if you get them for free or get paid to do it then good for you I wish someone would pay me. Would rather model trains for a living then the sh*t i do now. But that allows me to do the model trains.

trackside scenery does nice work but damn you sure have to pay for it... pretty much $10.50 per linear foot, and the part i really dont get is charging an extra $15.00 to add a road or river to the pic.. that is just enough to piss me off. If they mounted it to some polystyrene or lauan i could almost justify it, but no it is just a printed pic ........ wow talk about no frills
