Finding the coolest sounding BMW drift car, better than V10!?

On Drift Week 9 I found the coolest sounding super charged E92 V8 BMW M3, I never knew these things could sound so cool with boost applied, it completely changes the character of the engine, it is crazy how different it is! What is even crazier is the engine is stock with just a bolt on super charger, we have been sleeping on these things! Except for the fact that they MURDER MURDER tires. I am not sure why this thing exactly murdered tires so badly, it must have long gearing, high RPM, and that combined with a bit of HP and a driver that stands on the gas makes a car that has literally 5x worse tire wear than my S14 with a V8 in it. Seriously, the tire wear on this thing drifting on a big road course is really bad, but the car sounds sooooo cool while doing it!

9:44 ZF GS6 gearboxes come in 1/3/4/5/6/Z/X series beemers. As he says you have to be careful with the synchros but otherwise very strong. Apart from that very nice car. Loving the performance, the sound and the JDM touches. And black e92s always look fire!

Jup can comfirm. My E91 with the 3.0 M57 also has this gearbox. Running close to 800nm without issues now so a petrol with less torque should be more then fine.

@@mickstick2830 Love the four door E90s too and you got some torque there mate! Must be a very fun car 👌 And yes, he will be fine. I’ve heard about Scandinavians putting 1400nm through them - which I suppose is pushing it to the absolute limit - but they’re good way over the oem 600nm specified limit.

@@mirshitin1775 Yeah , over 1000 is crazy haha ! The only thing i need to upgrade is a stronger clutch/flywheel combo. My car stil runs on the stock turbo and i stil have so much more performance to gain. But the clutch will be nr1 protesting hahaha :-))

The rod bearing issues on bmw engines is due to 10w60 (factory fill) being used in engines that came with ~0.0015" rod bearing clearances. (s85, s65, and s54) The s54 is closer to 0.002" so isn't affected as badly. S85 will spin a bearing at ~70,000mi on that oil.

Softer type bearings especially smoosh out at higher power loads or with detonation. The factory didn't design them for a supercharger or other power mods, like race bearings are meant for. Some engines are fine at higher power levels but that engine, it seems isn't and needs upgraded rod bearings when increasing power. A bearing material that is more sturdy, like the ones he prob changed to. There are other factors than bearing metal/material, like surface contact area(oil film), heat, tune n such... Still a good idea to check them once in awhile for any performance app but I'd bet he is ok, since they are upgraded. Well if the fuel/tune was always good and detonation didn't beat/smoosh them out. Back to size, some engines have more than enough load area for the power they make stock but others are right on the edge from the factory. Why design it better than you need, that just cost more and when talking millions of engines the penny's add up!

It has ZERO to do with power mods. Do you know why E36s rust and rip out rear subframe mounts, or why our E87 had cracks close to the rear sub frame mounts? -because they properly effed up and overstreched the sheet metal. 'Same' thing with the bearings of that engine. Plenty of them die without mods and despite being properly cared for in terms of oil changes, not pushing it under 80 degrees oil temp and so on.
