Finding Red Beryl, Topaz and Bixbyite at the Searle Canyon Red Beryl Mine at Topaz Mountain

Here's video from a great trip to the Searle Canyon Red Beryl Mine at Topaz Mountain on 4-17-21. We learned a ton from John Holfert and Jeremy Fuller and had an awesome experience! It cost $90/adult for a half day and the kids were free. We lucked out because I was able to book our visit on very short notice by calling the gem.tours number at 801-628-3648. That number put me through to Jeremy, and he texted me the meeting location and the links to pay online and complete a liability form. We met at 11:30 a.m. and left the mine around 5:00 p.m.
Here is a link to John and Jeremy's excellent book A Field Guide to Topaz and Associated Minerals of the Thomas Range, which I highly recommend (the ebook is $4.99):

Quick correction... at the end of the video I mention that there are a couple of pieces of red beryl with with black crystals on them that I call Hematite, but it is actually Bixbyite.

I had the opportunity to go there when i was a graduate student in Utah. Unfortunately, when I went, the original owner of the claim was in negotiations with a mining company to sell it. So, my group was not allowed to actually go into the mine. I was really disappointed.

@Utah Rockz-Trip was great! We dug for two days, one day at the topaz and Bixbyte spot, and one day at the red beryl spot. We learned a ton from Jeremy and John, and found some really nice pieces. Not sure what a crunch berry is, but sure I’d like one!

Cool finds. I am a dealer in Japan, but from the states. Been collecting up there for about 7 years now. Was that the Solar Wind Claim? I've thought about joining them next time I'm up there and this video sealed the deal. Those crunch berries are very cool and unique. Cheers.

@@utahrockz3305 うん、話します. Very interesting you studied there. Not a lot of Americans do. How did you like it? Thanks to you I made it up to the SC mine this past weekend. Spoke to Jeremy and he sorted me out. Nice guy. Didn't do as well as you, but did find a few crunch berries, 2 red beryls and plenty of topaz. Got plenty of topaz from Topaz Mountain as well as tiffany stone, sunstones, magnetite & apatite down in Cedar City and other minerals. Utah is an awesome state to hunt in. Cheers.
