    Hi, I found these razor clams on shores of lough swilly, County Donegal on the NW coast of Ireland. They are also harvested commercially in Co Down, Ireland. They are definitely found on coasts of SW Britain. Thats all I know for sure. They're available in the markets in Spain.

    I've seen the shells on my local beach in Donegal. Will harvest a few tomorrow now that I know where and how! Thanks.

    I've read that they're found on the North American Atlantic coast as well as in west coast of Europe. Difficult to locate but if you find lots of empty shells then its worth a hunt at low tide

  • @martinagardiner
    @martinagardiner11 жыл бұрын

    Very often you don't know. If you're down by the tide line at the lowest tide possible in your area then any decent size holes are probably worth a try. Not sure about other clam types but you'll find some other stuff while searching for razor clams.

    Yep we got them here in Estern Canada. I've seen people use only salt, it works also.

  • @martinagardiner

    This is Donegal, Ireland. First you need evidence they're on a beach - thats empty shells. Then you search for holes at extremely low tide - you're looking for 'spring low' tides - see you local tide times for details - good luck!

    Its a bottle of water with loads of table salt. You could use salt only but I think this way is better as they come out quicker

    shouldnt you need gloves when pulling them out. I never heard of razor clams before. This is new to me. Awesome

    no need for gloves, they are harmless. unless you have cracked skin, then u need them to protect from salty water.

    It's not being scared...they have good reactions and move very quickly. So, you have to pick your moment to grab them.

    Yes - I'd say most of west coast of europe would be good. I've seen other videos made in cornwall & devon - find the empty shells first - then look at a v v low tide - good luck!

    These razor clams are huge. But one question: why don't you grap one quickly as soon as it comes out?

  • @martinagardiner
    @martinagardiner12 жыл бұрын

    They taste good - possibly described as a little sweet - you need to eat them as near raw as you can bear or else they get rubbery. Best cooked a couple of seconds in pan - just enough to kill them, then a squeeze of lemon

  • @martinagardiner
    @martinagardiner11 жыл бұрын

    Yes, edible and delicious. Found on west coast of Europe - not entirely sure about worldwide. Difficult to locate, not widespread. Salt water simulates tide coming in - they think its safe to come out - then you catch them :)

    Hi, The tide is full out when razor clam hunting. To catch them - the best time for success is when the sea is about to come back in on them The saltwater simulates the tide coming in and they think its safe to come out. They pop out and you grab!

    @chubchubchubber - Hi, I tried quite a few times b4 I got lucky. If there are shells there are razor clams - fact! The next spring low tide is June 15th. However, August 31st is the lowest for a few months (much higher chance of getting them). Try these days. Go out a good 40mins b4 lowest tide. Walk beach from one end to the other. Look for holes like those in video & also for squirts of water a couple of feet in the air. Good luck!!

    they get irritated- they accept the amount of salt in sea water, but too much salt can kill them, thus they try to run away. so basicly- you kinda harm them with this method.
