Finding Moana's Canoe Plants! | Maddie Moate

"Consider the coconut, Consider its tree, We use each part of the coconut, That's all we need" - Join us on our Polynesian Moana adventure as we go in search of Canoe Plants! More information below :-)
Polynesian voyagers like Moana understood the importance of nature and recognised how plants could help them set up life on new islands. So, they brought key plants with them every time they set sail across the ocean, and these became known as Canoe Plants!
"In all, there were about 20-35 canoe plants, including noni. They spread across the Pacific Islands. Can you imagine moving to a strange new land, able to bring only what would fit in your small, seafaring canoe? What would you bring with you? What would you leave behind?" bit.ly/2f6c2tf
The idea for this video came from the lyrics of Moana's, "Where You Are" (Music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mark Mancina)
"....Consider the coconut,
Consider its tree,
We use each part of the coconut,
That's all we need.
We make our nets from the fibers,
The water is sweet inside,
We use the leaves to build fires,
We cook up the meat inside.
Consider the coconuts,
The trunks and the leaves,
The island gives us what we need..."
