Finding Huge (Fluorescent) Calcite Crystals in a roadcut near Toronto & Hamilton
Join me (Jeff) Off The Beaten Path Crystals for a short adventure out collecting stunning fluorescent Calcite Crystals in a local roadcut. I discovered this spot a few years back using Google Earth. Each time I visit this Crystal Collecting spot it does not disappoint, and today was no different. It was a good day with good finds!!

Thanks, more adventures are on the way.
Awesome video Jeff! Awesome finds! I am a local Hamiltonian, I don't know exactly where this is but I have a good guess of the general area :) . Hey I was wondering since your nearby would you want to meet up and do some rockhounding this spring? I am always interested in hanging out with other fellow rockhounds and going on rockhounding trips.
Cool place Jeff, a lot of the Niagara escarpment calcite will fluoresce. Cool little Marcasite too. I'm surprised there isn't the odd Fluorite kicking around up there. Need to find that fossilized Limestone, may have some luck there. 👍😁

Now finding Fluorite at this site would be nice, especially with the lack of club quarry trips lately. Turns out under my digital microscope that that little plate of Marcasite was full of micro crystals.
One of the many good road cuts in the area. Great video!
a nice little spot but small, nice finds Jeff, ive seen calcite and fluorite there aswell as druzy quartz. lots of the same minerals from there all the way to niagara. enjoy your videos.
Rockhounder for life here

I agree. The weather is looking good where I am, it's digging time.
Greetings from Sweden. Very interesting video! I hope you are well. Do you know what happened to your rockhounding friend caver 461? You used to be together

He got injured last fall when a tree he was cutting fell on him, don’t worry, he seems like he’s recovering but we probably won’t see him until summer sadly

Mick is doing good and we have some trips planned already. We are waiting for the last of the snow here to melt to get out and do some good collecting.
Well hello again Jeff , this is a wonderful area of the escarpment and I've spent many a day hiking and cycling along the pathways in the surrounding area . Perhaps I should stop and smell the roses the next time and who knows I may just find a few Calcite creations as well. Take care and give Mick my best .

I am sure more searching of the area would reveal more crystal finds.

Just below the 403 where it starts to go down the Mountain in Hamilton. You can see the debris in Google Maps. It's a steep and slippery hike to get to the spot.

@@OffTheBeatenPath1 Thanks i know the spot I was actually thinking of where to park Thanks again CHEERS
Very nice, are you finding fossils in that area too?
@OffTheBeatenPath1

I did not see any fossils there. Hungry Hollow here in Ontario seems to be a fossil hot spot, usually there is a club trip to that site every year.

What's that gunshot sound in the background a hammer or whatever?
What wavelength was that used? Did you note phosphorescence?

It's a 20 min slippery hike with bad footing from Filman Road. The main collecting area is between the 403 and the cemetery below, you can see the rubble in Google Earth.
