Finding Golden Healers and Other Crystals at Avatar Crystal Mine!!

Last Saturday, March 4th, I was fortunate enough to visit the Avatar Crystal Mine for my very first time. It's located outside of Mt. Ida, Arkansas nestled between Wegner Crystal Mine and Crystal Vista.
The digging area is nearly a half mile off the road along a gravel drive going back to the mine. The road is pretty easy until you get to the gate, then it starts to get a little more rough.
You can surface search, dig in tailings piles, or find a vein in a wall.
For this video, I primarily show surface searching and working a section of a wall getting into a vein.
I had a wonderful time at the Avatar Crystal Mine, and would definitely go back!
Blessings!
-Joe

Maybe investing in a battery powered hammer drill and a few feather and wedges to help pop off those bigger sections of limestone.

Hey Joe, the crystals you mentioned with the extra side that are a diamond shape are called window crystals. Nice finds!

I know it didn’t quite start out the way we were hoping, but by the end of the day I was having a lot of fun. We need to go dig again soon. 😊

Loved the cartoon as a kid. I don’t remember much of it, other than a character being killed off the first episode. High stakes out the gate.

What type of tools are you using to break into the sandstone? You mentioned a drill, what type of bits would you use. Great video and info!

It rained a lot prior to us coming, so the road back got a little rough after you pass through the gate. So if you do go, take Dustin’s car. 🤣

Found you recently and I’m loving your videos! I’d love to take my seven year old granddaughter to dig for crystals this summer. We’ve never been. Where in Arkansas would you recommend the two of us novices begin? Any other suggestions? We welcome your thoughts. Thanks so much.

As far as I know, you can use any hand tool. I mainly used a pick, rock hammer, a couple of chisels, and a 3 foot crowbar. I had a larger pick that I used for a little bit, but I don’t think it was necessary to have it at all. A 3 pronged garden cultivator tool could be good for going through the piles. Also, parts are wide open to sun exposure, so consider headwear and possibly a cushion to sit on (the good Lord made me a little extra padded already, so I was fine 🤣).

@@joedadbod8450 I’m not sure! I was looking at my schedule yesterday… eventually I’m just going to have to pick a time. I keep having things come up that are expensive. Car and home repairs have been really hitting me hard lately! I’m going to have to sell some rocks or something 🤪 to get more rocks 😂
