Finding Fries Mill-DESTINATION ANYWHERE
On this episode of Destination Anywhere, we take a trip to South Jersey to see the Fries Mill Ruins. Left vacant years ago, sand continues to reclaim the area, including what's left of a once-thriving mill.

Note: The family name may be pronounced "Freeze" instead of "Fries" I guess I just wanted it to be Fries.

My father's family has been in the area since 1810. My grandmother always pronounced it Freeze's Mill.
Hey Mickey, those concrete ruins that you labeled as “Fries Mill” are actually the remains of the “New Jersey Sillica Sand Company” from the 1930s-1950s. The real remains of Fries Mill are the older ruins you came across on the trail with the fireplace and other old remnants of foundations.

Thanks for pointing that out and thanks for watching!
Thanks again for another great video, Mickey. When I was a kid, Rutgers University Press put out a couple of "Forgotten Towns of Southern New Jersey" books I loved to read them and always planned to search for some of them. Situations have changed over the years. I'm in a wheelchair now and live in Florida, so your videos are my connection so thanks again.

Hi Bob, I have read through a bunch of those types of Forgotten Towns books but don't know if I saw the Rutgers Press ones. I'm sorry you didn't get around to searching for them but I will keep you connected! Thanks for watching as always and I appreciate the positive feedback!
Much more majestic than Wheatons, sitting in the middle of Millville. 🤦♀️😖

Man, thanks a lot. That's an awesome compliment that I really appreciate.
Was this the same family that settled in Franklinville, Janvier, Franklin Township of Gloucester County? If so, their name is pronounced 'freeze'.

Hi Penny, it very well could be...I wasn't able to dig up a ton of information on the family. Thank you for the information though! I will add a pinned comment to the video. Thanks for watching!
