Finding authenticity - Ai Weiwei and Anish Kapoor | Studio B Unscripted

In his new memoir, 1000 Years of Joy and Sorrows, artist and activist Ai Weiwei shares his story of growing up in exile in China. Ai’s work challenges human rights abuses around the world.
Sculptor and installation artist Anish Kapoor is one of the most celebrated contemporary artists, known for his iconic large-scale sculptures including Cloud Gate in Chicago and ArcelorMittal Orbit in London.
In Part 2 of Studio B: Unscripted, Ai and Kapoor explore the idea of “home” and belonging in a globalised world, as well as the changing face of art today.

The language that is behind the structure of the language spoken, the universal language that anish was talking about , i always felt it is like in cymatics, its the soul ( the dasein from heideger) its the primordial spirit that we are part of and we can counsciously molding it and playing with it , like little gods , to impress the source god.

A renewal appreciation of the beautiful complexity of Life. Even if in a feeling of total loss most people can find acceptance in nature. Do not run from the city in imaginary bliss of living with nature. Lack of knowledge will at least harm yourself and the place of bliss! Making more confusion and destruction. Do not turn Bliss into the place you left. Leave your problems there... make a plan... try... aim high! Reunion with nature - carefully.

Fantastic discussion. I just wish Anish stopped interrupting Weiwei and let him finish what he was going to say. Weiwei has so much to express through his art and other means. Let us listen and experience his art.

Authenticity and sincerity are paramount as artists age. I like exploring new technologies, AI, and so on, but it doesn't always seem sincere, and I question my intentions. I like that cognitive dissonance which makes me clarify my intentions.

Home is where you (i) are not a nuisance to those around us. That does not mean it a house of best choice.

“Britain was much better at this,” ????? At what? Certainly not accepting “the other.” Amish Kapoor is living a confused life with his desire to be white British… he is not. And certainly not in “Britain,” the “face” of colonialism and the destruction of countries forced to serve Britain’s greed for wealth and power by any means necessary. Even Ai WeiWei raised an eyebrow at Kapoor’s exhalation from his bemoaning being called a “darky.” A derogatory term that should have shown him how crude and uncivilized Britain and Israel were for even using such a term.

Every land, every nation wants to speak with one language. But an artist, grown up in a cultural context, wants to speak in his own voice. That is the reason why political views can make artists a potential misfit. This does not mean his art is bad or the nation is unacceptable. It just makes us understand that art is not the beginning of humanity, nor is mankind the beginning of art. Aa an artist you have always to choose: do you want art or do you want people, nation, success. Being human, you have always these two decisions, right or left. In the case you are not right, it can be better to have left the house. We have to try not to leave the art because it's a wonderful leaf of a freedom's tree. It would be a shame not to have art. More respect for the authenticity of Wei Wei. He's not a blind CCP worshipping nationalist. He loves China and Chinese culture and traditions but he doesn't like the authoritarian government
