Nonononononoooooooo!!!! My friends!!! You don't want to deconstruct a piece like the spray you found!!! There's a reason why everyone was so excited for this episode and it's because the natural construction of these crystals far outmatches anything that artisans, lapidaries or jewelers could do to it. Now I understand it's difficult, but there is a way to extract these pieces and in fact it's not even vastly expensive. All you need is a generator for one. Two an extension cord. 3 a circle saw. And 4 a diamond blade for said circle saw. I myself am a lapidary and I've seen firsthand the power of a diamond saw. Diamond is number 1 on the mohs hardness, which essentially means it's the hardest material known to man. It will cut anything, even Steel. From there it's just a matter of lugging the genny up the mountain, hooking it up, making four cuts and thennnnnn not entirely sure how you get it out of the ground, but I'll bet you anything it's worth it. The crystals you've found in that pocket are obviously still inherently valuable, but you could do a lot more as far as dollars earned and interest garnered if you were able to extract an entire intact matrix. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science in particular would probably pay you an arm and a leg for a beautiful piece they can market all across the city. I can see the banners waving on 23rd avenue already.

If we were NOT working in permafrost that would work. I have worked extracting crystals with saws and whatnot. But up here in the permafrost everything will eventually fall apart if the vug is not somewhat intact. The mountain is frozen from the last ice age and with how the glaciers have moved across the rocky mountains and the natural movement of the mountain, most if not all pockets have collapsed and froze. so this is a surgical process to extract specimen and crystals.

@@jameswelch1054 The most valuable specimens are those that are intact in situ and on their matrix. Free crystals are basically worthless as display specimens. They might be sold as new age magical items or more likely sold to the jewelry market. If you have an exceptionally large specimen you might display a free crystal, but none of the stuff they show on the show come anywhere close to being an exceptionally large specimen. When I was a kid I had a much larger crystal in my collection, and it was actually in situ (just like all of my other specimens), not a free crystal. In any case, these guys are overstating the value of the crystals they are finding by an order of magnitude. Raw aquamarine is considerably cheaper than the prices they continually trot out. Perhaps they might reach those values as gems once faceted, but no way the raw crystals are worth that much.
