Finding a Miner's Cat, Skeletons and a Hoist Deep Underground!
This former gold and silver mine situated adjacent to a ghost town had lots to offer including heavy equipment such as the hoist, several animal skeletons, and even an underground lake! The other two mines Owen and I visited were cool as well just not as extensive unfortunately. Hope you guys enjoy this one!

If you throw a football sized rock in the water, start counting "one, one thousand two" etc until the bubbles stop and that should give you a fairly accurate depth. learned that in Boy Scouts.
Takes a lot of courage to walk over those boards above that stope. You’re giving me chills.
Thhat cabin/bunkhouse looks like a good place to move to when the cities self destruct.
nice looking winch , we sure could use that one in our mine if you want to pick it up for us hahahhaha another fun explore
It's gotta be ACME because I'm pretty sure the coyote tried to drop one of those on the roadrunner.

The ultimate joke, still quoted today, is a child’s call to a drugstore: “Do you have Prince Albert in a can?” The druggist’s answer, “Yes,” was followed by the young prankster’s response, “Then let him out,” followed by peals of laughter.

You guys do an awesome job, with your editing, content, and exploring. Really enjoyed the miners cat, it's only the second one i've seen. Great job.
Can we get a bit more local history on ring-tailed mine cats? There must be more than one, a mom and pop, and offspring. How or what do they eat? Bats? They must see in the dark or have good sensors, so they don't fall into the holes. Basic info from Google search: The ring-tailed cat (or miner’s cat) is not actually a cat - rather, it is a small, fox-sized member of the raccoon family with a long, striped tail. It is native to the southwestern United States (including the Los Padres National Forest) and Mexico.

It said they’re usually solitary except for mating season but I’m sure there’s more than just that one in such a large mine. It also said they make good pets and they’re very affectionate. Now I want one lol

Deep in the mine, in the dark, how do they find food, and water-do they climb the ladders to the surface-is there a subterranean layer humans don't know about where they frolic and get their sustenance? It's all very weird!
Waiting on this video to drop lol. Just wanted to let you know how good your content is, I'm by no means a mine expert by even a little bit so when I watch your vids I'm always learning something new! Now I'm always keeping my eyes peeled when I'm out in the Joshua Tree area for some mining evidence. Cheers dude! 🙂
16:50 That is like something from a nightmare!
Another excellent video :) BTW, if you ever bring something down into a mine to float on the water, I would not recommend an inflatable raft :P A better choice would be one of those folding kayaks that folds up into a bag/backpack. You don't have to worry about puncturing them on a rock or piece of metal, and sinking like a stone ;)
Awesome video. Just think of the man hours worked to dig all the levels and haul out all the ore and rock. Thanks for taking us along.
You certainly do find some very interesting locations. Thank you for taking us along. 👍
Its huge! Seems like such a waste, could build a city down there.
Great video. The ringtail cat was really cool to see and I’m shocked at how much water was in the mine for such an arid environment.

As is often is the case in the NV & AZ desert - the water table can be quite a ways down before you hit it. It also varies depending on how much rain falls during "the monsoon season".

As a Mom and Grammie, I’m so happy to see you with A.) hard hats B.) a friend. Earlier today I watched you spend about 5 hrs in a gold/silver mine. I’m guessing you were in CA (?) because you mentioned possibly getting In/Out burgers. It really scared me to see you and your friends in another mine with no helmets or hard hats!
Great explore! My dad had an old joke about the Prince Albert tobacco can. Call up a store and ask if they have Prince Albert in a can. Yes (store). Well, then let him out! (hang up). Yup, that's a dad joke! 😄
As clean as that place is, someone probably owns it still.
Twenty minutes into the video i found this very interesting. If all the videos are like this , i just have to subscribe. Very knowledgeable and very interesting content. 👍

Careful about exploring houses, especially in these regions. Nutcases may leave boobietraps behind. Observe everything, touch nothing and exercise caution when opening doors or crossing door frames.

Awesome video brother. Can’t wait to get out there again with ya sometime soon 😉👉👉
That was a very impressive stope that just went on and on. The ringtail "miner's cat" was a cool bonus.
That miners cat was cool!
Looks like that may have been an early model B.B Hoist, often used for lowering men and supplies in winzes (underground shafts between working levels) The straps you refer to as bacon strips are called Mats but most hard rock miners. I worked underground hard rock mines all over the US for over 40 years.
At 25:32 in the video it looks like you caught a ghost or something on camera! Something moved across the screen from left to right at the bottom of the stairs. Creepy!

looking into the obis of these stokes gives me the willies, especially with all them timber supports under some immense stress now, but i'm pretty glad you guys doing the hard work and sharing your experience with us, i do wish and recommend, from my own climbing experience and as much hassle as it is, you guys would hook up a line when descending, i am sure you check every step you tread to ensure its integrity, your no fools, but i be damned to trust them ladders myself - still very interesting and nice to see the bats as well as the cat, great result a great place to set up a shack and hunker down with all that fresh water at your disposal
Great Job. Thank you!
That ore cart was riveted, 1920's or earlier is when it was made. 30's they went to welded construction, gives you a rough idea on when it was first worked.
Must have had generators up there and took them with them when they unassed the AO.
Great video. Lots of cool finds. The miners cat was cute
Great video. Beautiful place.
Hi there, Western Mine Detective; tremendous video footage with something for everyone to enjoy! At 39:34 , that looks like an X-Leg Foldable Table with a folded white Fabric Top (you can see it folded below the top wooden rail). Below the angled corner brace a few inches, where the white leg & the dark leg, there is a Pivot Pin for opening up the top of the Table. At 39:38 , notice the same configuration of the right side legs in the construction of the Pivot Pin. Made like a Cot, but the wood isn’t heavy enough. At 40:57 , amazing to see the Ring-Tailed Cat, what a bonus find! At 25:32 , @medipuff, that was a Bat flying left to right! Keep Safe with the Great Adventures!!!
Nice Mine and what great video !
always good videos
That is some of the coolest equipment
Great exploration guys
The lever @ 15:58 is for the brake band on the hoist drum.
Good job, you found some very interesting stuff.
Epic video what a great adventure.
You guys are either, very brave, or crazy, or maybe a bit of both, I stopped breathing when your climbing all over those stopes and shafts, good luck to you, no way I could do that. Stay safe.
Dang that was a pretty big operation
Awesome video.
Thanks, very cool!

Another well narrated adventure... thx guys 🌵🌵👍👍💀💀🌵🌵

that’s really beautiful smoke shake, id chill out there gah dan
You took a huge risk going down that ladder.
holy shit thats some awesome finds
Do you have "Prince Albert in the Can"?..(or Pop in the Can")...."Well let him out...Mom wants him home for Dinner".....LoL....? How Old am I ?......LMAO !!
I would totally live there.
Just like Pippin, wake up a Balrog
At 38:44 you look back at the door into what seems to be a dead-end with what you described as a work bench. I suppose they might've planned on digging that face further, hence the track, but what confuses me is that the door has a lock hasp on the inside...
We might have to do a cross collab. if you ever find a really old bicycle! Great video 👍🏼
Those straps at 23:18 are indicative of modern mining methods occurring in there
ACM probably means Amalgamated Copper Company.
That was a HUGE vein they followed.
35:40 you can see the vein they followed in that "island".

Another interesting video! I grew up in a mining town, so I know most of the terms that you use for things. Did you also grow up in mining areas?
I was clenched up tight as a barrel during this whole video! What kind of critter was that miners cat? This is wild!
I was just thinking about them miner cats and now this woah
Man o man think as to what is holding up the side of the mountain ?. I mean that the mine is so gutted its strange the mountain doesn't collapse :O Should of helped the cat out. Think its lost in there. Just put it in your backpack and take it out :)
That "sawhorse" looked like a cot if you opened it up and laid on it.
I had a house with that sink! In a 1900-1930’s house
23:05 Look like the shaft down has been capped off and made to look like a dead end. Straps on the ceiling to keep loose ends from dropping down the shaft
That blue water tells me "Copper".
With all those huge stulls obviously under immense pressure- as seen in the bent & breaking ones, you can really see why many mines left rock pillars of the ore-bearing rock, to handle the immense pressure, even though it leaves $ on the table. Bring some glowsticks you can duct tape to your rock and you can watch it go down thru the water

When he says it smells like bat crap. Does he mean it smells like ammonia? I’ve only been in two caves in my lifetime so idk.

Cool seeing the "miner's cat" of course, y'all blinded the fuck out of it - lol. I'm guessing that they were pumping a lot of water out of that one mine considering how large the diameter pipe they were using
They aren’t going after gold there? I don’t see rock that would have gold in it? ? Wonder what they were mining?
