    Glad to see you back in the swing of making those highly informative videos after working tirelessly to get your shop open and running smoothly. My previous bow, the single cam 2006 PSE Fire Flite 33 you tinkered with at your Teach N Train last summer was set at 29 in and 60 lbs. My newer PRIME Black 3 is set up at 29.5 in draw and 65 lbs. I am not sure if I can really tell which one is correct as long as my peep is good.

    @5:00 wrt AMO DL: acc. to my knowledge that is actually not correct respectively that is not the AMO DL, but the "true" DL as it corresponds with the travel distance of the nock point to the pivot point of the bow grip. The "AMO" DL adds 1.75" to the true DL...

    Shop looks great! Yeah, that draw length thing is a bit of trial and error, and can vary by bow manufacturer and model. I am six feet tall and have a 30” draw, so I am a bit outside the box.

    I'm 6'4" tall. I have long monkey arms but.... Thanks to previous shoulder issues. I have a stupid short 27.5 " draw on a PSE. That draw on many target bows is also the cross over point between the large cam and small cam versions. I wish bow manufacturers would give more overlap on their long vs short draw cams and modules. Most short cams stop at 28, the long draw starts at 27. It's a pain because. My 27.5 draw is dependent on the manufacture. I tried a Matthew's trx bow at 27.5, but it was too long, a bowtech 27.5 was too short.

    I've been shooting trad recurve for a while and it took me about a month to get my proper anchor point and draw length. I've also found that most people's draw length become longer when they shoot recurves and long bows.

    About 3 months into taking archery more serious. I'm finding that the range of motion is increasing. Been shooting around 3000 arrows a month and improving my shot accuracy has been compromised slightly. I didn't know draw length could change at all. Thought it was a fixed and permanent thing. Thanks for the video.

    Hey Dusty, real interesting how you are finding your draw length increasing, I've never heard anybody mention this before. They are probably just locked in to what they have . In the mountain bike world I experience exact same thing, my seat height (pedal stroke) may increase by 7mil from spring to fall. Took me quite awhile to get my head around this. Actually thought my seat post was slipping in the seat tube. Thanks.

    Great video. How does the length of your D-loop and length of you release impact draw length? I assume these instructions are when using a normal d loop length. What is the proper length for the release though? If you have it really long it could effectively move your hand further back from your face which you would need to shorten your draw length to compensate for.

  • @averagejackarchery

    @averagejackarchery

    This is assumed wrist release. One could almost add .5" to accommodate the short nature of a hand held. The dloop is not in question unless you're Tim Gillingham.

    I’m 5’10” and have used all three of these methods. 28” is super comfortable for me and I know from years of archery that 29” is too long. I’ve also shot 28.5 but 28” is just really more comfortable for me w/o really stretching out. When I’m the range all these guys 5’8” are using bows @ 29”+ just to say they’re 29” or to eek that little bit more speed. I just shake my head.

    isn't draw length measured from the deepest notch (where the string would be) to the "back" of the bow? (Back in archery parlance meaning the outer face of the bow?)

  • @averagejackarchery

    @averagejackarchery

    9 ай бұрын

    Actual draw length is front of string to deepest part of grip at full draw, plus 1.75". Usually, that's very close if not exactly the edge of the facing away part of the bow shelf.

  • @samsimon5827
    @samsimon5827 Жыл бұрын

    Hey Jack- for these draw length methods, is it referring to the mod or the actual draw length measured on a draw board? I’m trying to determine if my draw length is too long. Wingspan measurement gets me to 27.6, and have a 28 inch mod on my bow. However I was surprised to find on a draw board it’s measuring over 28.5 which seems like it would be way too long for me. Not sure why they make it so difficult to determine proper draw length when they fudge the numbers to get more speed presumably. Thanks
