Find The Perfect Drums For Your Song | Cubase Secrets with Dom

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this Cubase tutorial, Dom Sigalas looks at programming drums, helping you to create music by auditioning and editing the drums for music production that come with Cubase in Groove Agent SE. Comparing drum sounds with the rest of your song in the Cubase mix console, he shows you how to avoid mistakes in music production by constructing the right Cubase drum kit for the song, choosing the right sounds from your sample library and editing them to sound right within the Cubase music production.

    When I was just a beginner I found that “stacking” a couple different Groove Agent rhythms would get me close. I particularly like the Circus Sanity patterns as a base, because they are simple, and then add a second GA track with a different rhythm. Maybe something with mostly just percussion to fill in the blanks and accents. It’s not perfect, but it can create some amazingly satisfying, surprising patterns.

  • @marstudios7879
    @marstudios78792 жыл бұрын

    Sometimes the difficult part is not only to select the sound, the most difficult part is to create the full rhythm pattern of the drums for a specific song, which is the part that I am struggling more until today, because I am not a drummer.

    Wow so many useful tips. I was just struggling earlier today to find the right drum sounds for a song recreation. I had already given up to find the perfect sounds I needed, when I found this video by chance. I'll give it another try with this newfound knowledge. Thx Dom.

    Upon trying this, I can't get it to work. - I didn't have the "category" and "sub-category" columns in the load panel. Instead it had a "style" column. I figured out that if I left-click on the header of the style column, that I can choose different column types to show. So I could choose category/sub-category there. This is shown in the video, but quite quickly. What tripped me up, was that it is counter-intuitive to left-click for the menu to pop up. - So now I have the category column, where I click on "drum&perc". But when I double-click on "Kick drum" in the sub-category list, the whole list vanishes and gets replaced by only "Drumset". And below, it only shows drumsets. It looks as if there are no individual drum sounds like Kicks, Snares, etc available. - I also have to use the "Rescan disk" button regularly. It always reduces the category list to only "Drum&Perc", and the sub-category list to only "Drumset". I would think that the "Reset filter" button should go back to show the full list of instruments, but it doesn't. Only when I "Rescan disk" does it show the list again. Anybody else familiar with this problem, or the solution ? I use GA5 Se, in Cubase 12 Pro.

  • @valleyken

    I downloaded and installed the GA Se 5.1.11 (instrument), as well as the content set. Still the same problem. It finds only Drumsets, not individual drum sounds.

    Thanks. But I thought it was a way to choose a drum style (pattern). I use a sample of drums (Trio logitech) and I'd like to analyse it with Variaudo, then convert it to a midi track. But Variaudio does not find the notes (just a few) of the drum recorded... Any idea ?

    Hi Dom, I have Groove Agent SE5 with Boom Boom kit loaded I have selected a kick, with pre listen in place selected, I select pad 1 C1, that drum sound never changes regardless of what kick I select, I have a kick programmed on a 2 bar loop. I have noticed on your groove Agent you have trill em all showing in that space my space is blank you show only 3 tags play stop listening in place, I have 7 selections but I have only selected 1v prel listen in place Im on Cubase 12?

    HI Dom, thank you for this new video, very interesting and useful, as usual 👍 When I select a kick or a snare I receive this message: "the preset could not be loaded, etc..." it says it depends on whether the preset was saved with a newer version of the plugin or an uncompatible plugin. Have you some advice? Did it happen to some other user? Thank you, arfo

    Nice tutorial. Do you have a tutorial on making drum beats in that program from scratch? I previously used to use fruitly loops for drums but keeping within cubase will make it a lot better. Also can you add reverb on individual items like to the snare but not the kick?

    You can use a low-cut filter. - Open the equalizer window (that you get when clicking the "e" button for the track) - Under the equalizer, in the "PRE" part, there are a "LC" and "HC" button. Respectively, Low-Cut and High-Cut. - Hover your mouse over the low-cut button. You will see a little on/off button appear. Click it to turn on the low-cut filter. - Then turn the LC button. You will see the low-cut come in from the left of the equalizer, so that you can cut out low frequencies.
