    Cutlass Supreme 2 doors were ubiquitous during the 1970s. For those not alive then, it is hard to imagine, but they were literally everywhere. Great looking cars that drove extremely well. I took driver's ed in one, my next door neighbor had one with buckets and console, you saw them every time you drove anywhere. Oldsmobile made the perfect car for that time, that is why it was a best seller.

    I had one, There are two cars I would buy new today my Cutlass and my El Camino Conquista. I drive a BMW and would give it up in a minute.

    I had a 76 and a 77 cutlass both bucket seats 350 floor shift consoles , bought both new . First one got totaled by a drunk who T- boned me .

    In 1977 I was 15 years old and these cars were EVERYWHERE.... !!! Rock Solid Dependability and absolutely Beautiful Cars. Everyone had one. These glory days are sadly gone.

    I agree. But I like the colonnade cars with the round head lights. I have a fairly low mile 75 GP with T Tops. The hoods on the round headlight cars had body lines to match the bezels while the square headlight hoods are flat. Back in the day my brother had a black 75 Cutlass Supreme with bucket seats and a white vinyl roof. It was a gorgeous car and definitely cemented my love of the GM colonnade cars.

    I saw these cars when I was a kid, they were already starting to be old cars though, but I always loved them. Back in the early 2000's I worked at a Tire&Lube shop and had my own customers that requested me to work on their cars, one of them had a 76 Cutlass Salon 2dr, White w/tan vinyl top, bucket seats with console and Hurst shifter. I was always excited to service that baby, he kept it in Cherry condition too. I've been wanting to find one similar and buy it someday. 🙂

    The '76-'77 Cutlass Supreme was a real game changer. The T-Tops were installed by ASC but the power steel sunroof is also a cherished option. The '76-'77 Buick Regal deserve an honorable mention as the coupes were rebodied as well but didn't sell in the large numbers as the Cutlass coupe. These cars were everywhere back in the day now you're lucky to see one at a car show every once in a while.

    We had a 77 Regal, which became my "first" car. It was a bit of a slug with a wheezy and cold-natured Chevy 305. But it was gorgeous and had presence.

    Fellow GM stablemates Chevrolet Monte Carlo and Pontiac Grand Prix deserve mentions as well.. GM mid-sized personal luxury coupes owned the 1970s..

    The Pontiac Grand Prix’s standard engine was a 400 until 1976. Also the 2 door GP and Monte Carlo rode on the A body 4 door frame 116” wheel base which was known then as a G body.

    Had a '77 Brougham in '86 and absolutely loved that car! Paid $750 for it and drove it for years. Most comfortable car I've ever owned!

    @@LongIslandMopars I know the 1977 full size GM’s and the 1978 mid size GM’s used lightweight magnesium bumper reinforcements, which when in contact with brine & road salt in northern climates, tended to hold moisture and become like wet cardboard, keeping the inside of the metal bumper continually in a moisture situation. CB

    I Owned a 79 Cutlass for awhile, but always wanted to Own a 77 Cutlass Brougham. Beautiful Body Style and interior. Love it.

    I owned a 1974 Cutlass Salon with the 455 engine. Still til this day it is the most comfortable car to drive I have ever owned.

    Hey dude I have a 76 cutlass salon also and it's optional with the center console and the posi rear end w 3:08.1 gearing bucket seats and cloth style seats and the factory mags 15 inch and air conditioning. 350 rocket motor w a 4 barrel carburetor heavy duty suspension and cooling system.😅

    Yeah I had the 35o it was different basically you got a shift on the floor instead of up on the tree, the cars were tough they were some of first wind tunnel cars they handled like a boat but open highway cruise control comfortable, nice stereo always they were the perfect speaker box jensen triax 6x9s 5 inch alpine or pioneer up front before the days of crossover amps and subs etc, usually a 7 to 21 band equalizer basically balance front rear side to side etc to

    Great car and video. When I graduated from college in 1985, I bought a used 1976 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham. It was owned by a real car enthusiast so it was babied, garaged and meticulously cared for. It had just 40K miles, fully loaded w/ power everything, 350, color matched rally wheels and finished in a beautiful light tan, inside and out. Just gorgeous. It had a fantastic pillow interior with a slightly radical checkered fabric. I loved that car and regret selling it.

    I always thought those painted to match steel wheels with the beauty ring and trim were great looking. Oldsmobile used them for a long time on many models and they still look timeless today.

    My first car was a 1976 Cutlass Supreme Brogham, burgundy exterior with burgundy interior. It was terrible in the snow, all the weight was in the front with a 455 under the hood. I used to turn the air cleaner lid over and it really growled. Was a really nice vehicle. Nice to see this 77 in such good shape.

    My dad rented a '76 for the family to take on vacation. It had a great ride, nice looks, and meat locker cold AC. Would love to have one today as a nice weather driver.

    I always liked the grills and curved back wondow on these....I had a friend in highschool in the early 90s who had a 1978 green with tan interior/top like this.....was super clean all stock...I miss the days of finding a cheap reliable easy to fix car in good condition.

    Back when I was a young fella in the early 70s I never understood for a second why the Cutlass was so hot, they just didn't do a thing for me,, until my neighbor got a black 73' 2 door with the black interior and swivel seats and loaded to the gills.. That was an impressive looking car inside and out..

    One of my all time favorite GM cars, I got my Michigan drivers license in 1976 so these A body cars were everywhere. I took my driving test in a 1976 Buick Regal 2 door coupe with a power sunroof.

    I had a 1980 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. Light blue exterior and dark blue interior. 3.8L V6. I had almost no trouble with that engine and drove the car all the way through college and well beyond. I’m very sorry that I sold it for a new Camry in 1989. I had way more problems with the Camry than I ever did with the Olds, surprisingly!

    Sometimes that happens. I bought a Honda Accord SE in 2002 expecting that I was buying one of the most reliable cars in the world since I was upgrading from an 89 Civic lease that never gave me any problems. It turned out to be the most unreliable car I’d had since I started buying new cars and blew through three transmissions in five years and a few other problems. Im just now considering buying a Honda again after four vehicles in the interim.

    @@LlyleHunterStrange, isn’t it? After my problematic Camry was totaled, I bought a 1999 Acura TL and then a 2006 Acura TSX, which I still have with 246K miles. Both Acuras have been stellar vehicles with almost no repair costs except standard maintenance. I plan to buy an RDX or MDX as my next car. Even great car makers occasionally make 🍋’s. Whatever your next vehicle is, I hope that it serves you well!

    Never liked the crooked steering column on the 1973-77 Olds Cutlasses, but the waterfall grille on the 76-77 was truly a work of art. CB

    My dad was one of those buyers…and living in Belgium, he was one of only a few such buyers…i have fond memories of this car. It was silver grey with black vinyl roof and black corduroy interior. On our first trip to Italy (San Remo) all the badges were stolen of the car..

    I bugged my dear wife to get one of these in that era; same color and appointments as seen here. The _one_ detail that set the hook in me was that colorful little row of flags on the fenders under the Cutlass nameplate. That detail is what did it set against that gleaming black paint. My entreaties did no good as she had her '75 Gran Torino back then and she wasn't about to get rid of it anytime soon. My wife did eventually get an '81 Buick Regal in the two-tone Jadestone color scheme. That was a beautiful car too.

    Had a 76 salon with bucket seats. Different gear ratio on the differential. Green with brown inside and roof section. 350 cubic inch engine four barrel carb. Great car

    My sister bought her first new car in 1977. Cutlass Supreme, light blue with white interior. Was a pretty cool car that somehow my Dad seemed to always be driving...haha.

    My grandparents lived across the street from a lady who owned a 1977 Olds Cutlass Supreme Brougham. It was also black but with the Red interior. What a great looking car. To my horror, she traded it in on a 1985 Dodge Aries K.

    My family and I had 2 of these. A brown one with the Tan top and a Black one that had a series of little flags on the side. It was black with Red interior. I loved this car and really want another. Thanks Adam, I really enjoyed this one.

    Thank you for this. My older brother got this car in green as his first car back in the 80s. It was the first used car our family ever bought. It was magnificent and it will be permanantly etched in my memory! MY first car in 1985 was a 78 Cutlass and from there an 86. Just magnificent car memories!!!! NJ

    The 77 Cutlass was a good looking car. I bought a used one in 1986 that had a 231/3.8L Buick V6 in it. I drove it for about 14yrs until it finally died. It was under powered but a lot of cars were back then, but it did ok. Would love to have it now…

    My uncle had one of these, I always thought they were very nice. His was a light blue color. Same type of seats, the super cushy kind. I'd be happy with one of these for sure!

    I had a 77 Cutlass S, the 442 body with the wagon nose, pumpkin orange with matching wheels & white vinyl interior. 350 V8 with a Rodchester 4 bbl. carb. I think it started rusting before it came off the assembly line. The paint peeled off (orange peel 😛) both rear wheel wells were rusted threw & there was a 10 inch hole in the floor underneath the pedals. 44,000 miles & it was scrap.

    Yes, I remembered when the Cutlass Supreme came out with that grill in 1976 .. I was a child then ,, and a school teacher use to drive through my neighborhood after school (as the school was in the back of the neighborhood) .. she was beautiful and her car was a beauty too. ..I would peddle my bike at a somewhat busy street corner and wait for her to drive passed me and I would wave to her...I loved cars at this early age .. and would be excited to see all the new 76 models drive by .. but the Supreme was one of my favorite cars at that time. My parents had a 1970 Buick Skylark Wagon and a 67 Chevy .. which I thought were very old... and I cried to my father to buy a Cutlass Supreme or something like it in 76... after many months of thinking about.. In the summer of 76 he settled on a very sharp beautiful Regal coupe, chrome wheels and 350 V8 (the sister car of the Supreme). In 1987 when I had enough money to buy a new car .. I bought a new 1987 Cutlass Supreme Salon coupe , buckets, sport package .. very sharp.... too bad that both of these cars were totaled in accidents.

    My dad bought a 77' Cutlass Supreme 4dr. sedan back in 82' and it was in this car I got my driver's license in 1986. It is correct to compare it to a Benz because these were smooth running, quick responsive cars. It had the 350 and it was a quiet car but it had pickup and drove very well. I miss it and would love to find me one today. Our landlord at the time had a 2 door 77' but in hunter green colour and he loved it. He had it for many years, I believe he still owns it today.

    Adam, an interesting sidenote to this Cutlass. Oldsmobile never had any idea as to how popular this car would be in 1976 because of that beautiful waterfall grill. Oldsmobile couldn't keep up with the engine production and so, out of necessity, it started placing 350 (5.7 Liter) engines from Pontiac, Chevrolet, and Buick into its Cutlasses. When owners of those equipped with the Chevrolet and Pontiac engines found out, they formed a class action lawsuit against G.M. and they won. After that, you will see a sticker in the engine compartment of most G.M. cars that reads "The engine in this car may be supplied by various G.M. divisions". That way, G.M. could avoid any future lawsuits with that disclaimer. I used to get a ride in a 1976 Oldsmobile Cutlass back and forth to work. It was very smooth and quiet and the seats, even in those Cutlasses without the loose pillows, were extremely comfortable. With 4 people inside, the car rode like a Cadillac. Like most G.M. cars of the period, however, the dashboard bounced when driving over speed bumps or heavily rutted roads. Aside from that though, it was a beautiful automobile for long-distance driving. In 1976, these cars were wildly popular. Everyone living back then knew of someone who owned a '76 Cutlass. They were all over the roads.

    Adam, my dad was one of those 630K buyers, as he ordered his 77 Cutlass Supreme in late 76. Being the frugal guy he was, my did opted for the super rare T50 5 speed manual transmission. Paired with the 260 V*, he could return close to 30mpg on the hwy! From my research, only 114 of these were so equipped in 77. Sadly, the quarters rusted out constantly and we finally got rid of the car in 1992 with 132K miles on it. I wish I had been in a position to store it for future restoration. It was a beautiful white with Firethorn Red interior and Landau top.

    In 1980, we bought a 76 CSB...It was Maroon with the matching rally wheels, a FULL gold vinyl top, and the plush gold pillow top upholstery. Remember the Era...still some disco left!"What a beauty!

    That sales number explains why I remember these being everywhere. IMO Oldsmobile continued to make good on the design of the Cutless (2 door coupe varieties) all the way to 1988. In fact, Oldsmobile BY FAR made the best designed GM G bodies.

    Really miss Olds. I drive a 1995 Aurora - it is a great car. I had a Cutlass Ciera Holiday Coupe (FWD) with the wire wheel hub caps. It was a looker. The 1977 Cutlass is the sister car to the Monte Carlo. Olds had a great lineup. Cutlass, Delmont 88, Delta 88, 98. Took my driver's license test in my dad's 1968 Delmont 88. It was a barge to parallel park.

    The Olds Cutlass is one of my all time favorite cars. I had a 1984 Cutlass Supreme Brougham in H.S. Black with burgundy interior. Rare classic cars is one of my favorite KZread channels, thank you for the great content.

    Thank you for doing this episode! This is been one of the most beautiful cars built postwar in my opinion. And it is all but ignored these days… That is an amazing example. Never cared for the pillow, top seating, but other than that this car is perfect!

    Our family had a '77 Cutlass, a cream-colored Cutlass wagon. Those '73-77 Cutlasses were really popular. I'm not exaggerating when I say that every other house on our street had one, including my sister, who drove a maroon 1973 Cutlass Supreme coupe with a black interior and black landau roof.

    Thank you!! Oh my goodness... I've so badly wanted to see a feature on the '73-'77 Cutlass!! In all honesty, the Cutlass Supremes with the floor shifter/center console was one of the best looking features of the car! It's frustrating; it's becoming harder and harder to find clean '73-'77 A-Body's. Between the see demolition derbies and short track racers, this generation of car seems to be disappearing fast.     NASCAR loved that model Oldsmobile cutlass, almost every manufacture, switched to that body style for two years. Even Richard Petty, who won a few races in an Oldsmobile.

    My mom bought that CS Brougham in 77 in light blue metalic. It was a real good car. The 350 was a 4 bbl that gave it decent power. T-tops on that one are a neat option.

    I actually don't think there was a 350 Olds with a 2 bbl carb. At least after 75. I had a 75 and a 76. The 75 had the 350, the 76 the 260 V8 and I honestly do not remember what carb it had...

    Something that you did not mention....but was one my favorite aspects of this model.....was the factory rims that matched the body color ! I have seen these various colored rims on everything from tri-five Chevies to other GM makes like Pontiacs and Cadillacs....they always look great !

    The styling and comfort of these cars was excellent. I remember seeing them ubiquitously on the road as a kid. The Olds colonnade bodystyle was wonderful. I can very easily see a lot of styling cues in this Olds that carried on to my dad's 1979 Pontiac Bonneville Landau Brougham coupe, especially in the front end and interior.     The Cutlass & the Lincoln next to it were both the right cars at the right time. Tons of both on the road at that time. I didnt get sick of either. The 350 cars had the classic Olds rumble

    In May of 1977 I flew to Michigan with a couple hundred of my Air Force Academy classmates to pick up our new GM vehicles. My brown 77 Cutlass Salon was full of fuel at the Oldsmobile factory in Lansing. The T-top looked gorgeous! and several GM executives treated us like royalty! Our 1,200 mile drive back to Colorado was epic as many of us had already installed CB radios and our convoy grew to over 50 vehicles at one point! It was a super car and I put 10,000 miles on it between Memorial Day and Labor Day 1977.

    Thank you for bringing this car to the channel. I think it is great. I liked the design sketches of the interior. You were right about this Cutlass. The got it together for 1981-1988. They sold a lot during that time too. Oldsmobile worked hard and was hitting its stride during this time in 1977. They were building up since the 60's and Cutlass took off. It was surrounded by other winners as well ( Eighty- Eight, Ninety-Eight, Toronado and Custom Cruiser.) Something starting going wrong in the 80's and they never really bounced back from it. I proudly own two Oldsmobiles( Ninety Eight and Toronado) and I appreciated this video for the content and information. You are right about the Ninety-Eight touches as well. Thank you Adam.

    I've always been a big fan of the 1976-77 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme's, especially the 2 door models, I remember these cars were everywhere back in the 70's, 80's and much of the 90's, sadly by the early 2000's they started to disappear from the roads, for the downsized models I thought the 1980-87 Cutlass 4 door's were everything the 1978-79's should've been, of the 1973-77 personal luxury cars built by GM I thought Pontiac and Oldsmobile pulled off the 1976 redesign better than the Chevrolet and Buicks.

    I recognized the front of that car, as I had a four-door version of that model year. I bought it used in 1987, with only 33k miles [53k km] on it. Even with a detuned 350 V8, the acceleration torque was remarkable. On the interstate highways [in the US], it was difficult keeping it at the legal speed limit of 55 mph [89 km/h]. The marshmallow soft front seat bench was bad for my back, but a stiff seat insert solved that issue. The car was having issues as it neared 100k miles [160k km], as the steering was getting sloppy, the transmission was slipping, and the engine ran hot [I installed a temp gauge], which may have been due to the catalytic converter failing. I suspect the excess fuel, from the carb, going into the exhaust system, when combined with the heated catalytic converter, may have resulted with the converter's meltdown; clogging the exhaust system; which according to some mechanics, can make the engine overheat. Switches and knobs were also breaking/failing, with the turn-signal lever breaking off in my hand. The upholstery was breaking down, likewise for the vinyl dashboard, too. There were also issues with the car's electricals. Overall, it was easy to see that GM scrimped on the quality of materials to outfit the car when compared to the succeeding vehicle I owned. For the 21 years, at 235k miles [378k km], my '91 Honda Civic held up much better with the steering and suspension, with no failures with switches or knobs; even the plastic turn-signal lever remaining solid the entire time; with the interior staying in good shape, too.

    I had a 77 Salon. Absolutely loved that car. Darker blue with a white Landau top. I had T-tops put on after market, 2 tone light and dark blue cloth interior, wasn't into leather at that time. Ordered it special with my cousin, she got a brown one. All in all I think there were 5 Cutlas's in our family, me, cousin, brother, dad and an Aunt all had them at the same time. We all loved them. Would love to have one now.

    I remember when a cream/gold one of these, new, from this year, was ours for a while. I remember it had a distinctive new car smell, plasticky, but one that I actually liked. It seemed big, roomy, and comfortable ( at least for me as a kid) compared to the cars that came before and after. I wouldn't mind having one of those today.

    My brother had a 1976 Cutlass Salon. I think it had a 260 V8 in it. Was not a hot rod by any means. Dad did not like big heavy doors,he always had 4 door cars had a 1971 Buick Skylark at that time. The Skylark had more zip to it.thanks to the 350 in it.

    I was in high school during this era. It seemed like every other car on the road was a Cutlass. They also were a source for the diesel replacements in the 80's. The engines outlasted the cars.

    These were very similar to the Regal and Century. My sister had a V6 and when the hood was up it looked like a lawn mower engine lost in the engine compartment. It got 20 mpg though which saved as much money as the car cost during its lifespan.

    My dad still says his favorite car he ever owned was his cutlass salon, it was a beautiful dark red. It definitely got alot of compliments 😊 my uncle bought the supreme, in white off the lot but my dad ordered his and had to wait but said it was worth waiting.

    Wow, beautiful car. Had a 77 as my first car back in 84, light green with white roof. Bought for $1500, drove that car everywhere with confidence for 5 years, doing all maintenance myself. Only added shocks and springs, (which gave the car a nice stance), and a kick-ass Clarion stereo system. Great cruising car with the reliable 350 Rocket engine. Sold for $750 to a guy who totaled it soon after. Always regretted selling her.

    Back in 1977, a good friend bought one of the '77 Cutlasses. It was a good car for him and he drove it for several years and many miles. Based in part on his experience, I bought the downsized '79 Cutlass. Though I drove it for 10 years, it was not nearly as good as the '77--mine had a lot of problems over the years. It was the last GM vehicle that I bought until 1999 and I only have bought one GM vehicle since then.

    My dad had a 77 442 Cutlass Supreme bad ass car till my mom wrecked it. I loved that car as a kid, killer paint job, black and brown 442 badging, square light out back, and one hell of a nose on that girl had. I wish i could find one today.
