I actually rather like the idea of not hiding the fact he can just walk through walls. It plays to the idea of the survivors hallucinating well as well as lends to the supernatural feel of him rather than restricting it to some random holes he crawls through or something, and also helps him be where he shouldn't, like in locked rooms.

It'd work better if there was a proper effect to it I reckon. Maybe play even more on the poisonous gasses and canwry aspect and have visual distortion around the edges clipping, maybe spawn a few yellow feathers.

Manly diving in the deepest end is no surprise what does surprise me is the lack of give a f**k the MC had for his friend. Is it just me or are the writers of these games unable to muster a believable amount of give a damn anymore for fictional friends? xD

The bird whistle is from a canary. Miners would keep canaries in bird cages to make sure that the air was breathable. If something happened to the canary, you had to get out of there.

The practice is not limited to mining, lots of professions that work in underground areas like tunnels or caves use birds to test the air, grave robbers and early archaeologists for examples.

As a fan of the killer from My Bloody Valentine, I'm always up for a new mining-based killer. Pickaxes are such an underused slasher weapon, and the mining profession itself is a very underused base for horror slashers and monsters. And this one even incorporates canaries! I really like this monster

No doubt he's making that canary sound because they used to use canaries in mines to detect poisonous gasses. The bird would usually start making noise to alert the miners

I thought that the point of the canary was that they were particularly weak to poisonous gases, and if the canary suddenly died, it meant the miners needed to evacuate before they suffered damage from the gases themselves.

@@arneb23 Have you ever been around a canary? They chirp and squawk *constantly.* If the canary shuts up, it's probably choking, or asleep. Keep a light next to the bird, and make sure it knows there are other canaries nearby and it will chirp till it's tounge falls off, or it asphixiates on fumes.

Just started, but the monster having a bird cage for a head makes me think of the 'canary in a coal mine' phrase. Especially since the one note mentioned potential poisonous gas already.

He also appears to have a lamp of some variety in the cage, which could be a shout-out to mining helmets as well. It would certainly track, everything about his design screams "miner" in the first place.

On the topic of Cage-Face phasing through walls in the first game, I feel like that works in the game's favor for once, because if he were restricted to following the same tunnel paths that the player is, that would make his AI really predictable, and therefore easy enough to avoid that you might never even encounter him, but it could also make getting around the mine a super big hassle, because at any given time, he could just be blocking the path you need to go down and the only thing to do would be to find a hiding spot and hunker down until he moves his fat ass out of the way.

I feel like Cage Face and Siren Head could be buddies, or rivals

Canary explanation: back in the day with mining, Miners used to have canary's hung up in cages because they're very loud and constantly sing. If the canary's stopped singing and died the miners would know they had hit a poisonous gas and needed to get out the mine till it cleared, so basically the canary's were like smoke alarms

My god, you went with the highest difficulty right from the start again. Cage face is an interesting supernatural being. Hearing birds chirping inside a tunnel out of nowhere would creep me tf out.

This story is genuinely unique and creepy, something you don't see too often anymore, i wish whoever wrote this was working in Hollywood it would make a damn good horror movie, definitely intrigued. Both games were good but i think the formula in the first one worked best for this type of story.

I really enoyed the neat collectible notes with the puzzles outside of the main game. it's a little more interesting than having to read all of it while gettimg chased

This game is actually pretty smart considering Birds where used to detect gases in really old mines. If they would fall down in their cages (asphyxiation duo to lacking oxygen) miners knew the air was no good and should get out asap. This would explain the Poison mechanic being duo to bad gases in the mine tunnels

I like that concept. It's simple yet horrific. And I'm now very interested in the lore, haunting patterns etc. I'm Glad I didn't see this when siren head and imitations had dominated the horror space last year. I would've passed this up as one of them.

The canary in the coal mine killer isn't something I ever expected to see but that's a pretty good and novel design lmao.

Never heard of the original, but that remake was pretty cool. Great design for a pursuer enemy, the bird definitely adds to it. Everything being an interview or reading over a document with the deaths being false ends was nice, and the death CGs are easily the best part of this.

Manly, your voice alone is enough to make me feel better and ease my depression. Your voice just melts all my worries away and I'm able to relax and go on a mini adventure with you for a bit...Thanks, Manly. Never stop doing what you do, my friend! 😀😇

The very first time Cageface arrives, it's through a wall, and then Manly is confused he can do that x) It's funny you tend to see a lot of details others can't see in some videos, and in some others, you miss something pretty obvious.

12:12 Miners use to use canaries to sense toxic gas so they could get out before it was too late. Thats why Cage Face makes tweeting noises when hes close because his cage has birds in it.

Abandoned mines have so much horror potential, I think Shiver was another game that did this really well
