Find Center of Mass of an Object With a Hole | Physics & Engineering

Learn how to deal with a cutout in an object when finding the center of gravity or center of area of that object. Whether you are looking for the center of gravity, center of mass, center of area or centroid of an object it is important to know how to deal with an object that has had some material removed.
This topic comes up in introductory physics courses including AP Physics 1 AP Physics C Mechanics, A level physics and appears on the JEE. It also appears in engineering courses such as PLTW POE aka Project Lead the Way Principles of Engineering

But how to find the "position" of the objects? Is it the centroid of the objects? Example, in your video the position of the circle cut is at the centroid of the circle, but say it was a semi circle, or a trapezium where is the position of that object? is it at the centroid of the object?

The cg of a shape like a semi circle or triangle can be derived however it is much easier to use look-up tables to find the cg of those shapes. (ie google it)

How about the height of the block in consideration to the cg?

The calculation for CGy works the same way as the calculation for the CGx. The difference being that you use the vertical dimensions rather than the horizontal dimensions.

u include the third dimension z axis and do the same thing, but instead of area u consider volume
